Be careful not to block the cooling airflow under the panels or you will lose a lot of efficiency at peak sun ☀️

(my other channel) The panels sit on the ground mounts and the mirrors are really only effective early morning and late afternoon when the sun is weaker so no problems with overheating - we have a system which is much larger then we 'need' so it's all good.

I don't understand how this can be legal in the uk with a 350w motor and a throttle? The maximum output must be 250w by law and throttles that can propel without pedalling are illegal. Is this a legal ebike or not?
@ThousandYardStare
@ThousandYardStare 7 күн бұрын
I was confused about the output when I made this video as their website said the motor was 500W, then that was later changed to 350W but that is 'peak output' with the motor definitely being rated at 250W - it has 250W stamped on the hub of the motor so is the same as other UK road legal e-bikes as far as motor output goes. With regard to throttle that does not have to be fitted and the maximum speed is set at 15.5mph which also brings it in line with other road legal e-bikes. It is user choice to fit the throttle or increase the maximum speed. Hope that helps. I'd imagine that police in cities would be vigilant with checking e-bikes to see if they were 'legal' or not since there isn't anything more important going on in the world.....

@@nightlite9009 No worries and I'm glad you find value in the videos since I only review products that I do use myself. I use this bike almost every day for rides between 5 - 25 miles depending on whether I just have to visit the post office or I fancy having a proper ride up in the hills. I'm intending to do a follow up video very soon when I get to 500 miles.

Bloody foreigners, lol To be fair they often have a much greater appreciation of Nature and are prepared to get out into the woods to look for mushrooms. Most 'British' people are too lazy to educate themselves and get out into the woods and that is a real shame - a total lack of education about the outdoors. No wonder so many of them believe in the climate change nonsense. I'm English and I'm ashamed of most of my fellow Englishmen.

@@ThousandYardStare thanks for replying , Hard to get fresh sandeel for bait and hard to dig the buggers in soft sand so i figured i would bait with a bit of oily fish and fish it through a tide and see how i get on with the trap. I dont know how big the entrance hole is but i may have to narrow it a tad to hold them in .
@ThousandYardStare
@ThousandYardStare 16 күн бұрын
@@articledimension-im6ij The entrance is approx. 1" diameter on the traps shown in this video but it is quite flexible. Once the fish are in they will be unlikely to get out since the entrance extends inside the cage and most fish will head for the corners. However, I also have some straight traps which have a much smaller entrance of less than 1/2". It is still flexible but would definitely better for smaller fish like sandeels. The price is quite high on Amazon now (it fluctuates) but delivery is fast: geni.us/xEH3 If you can wait a few weeks you can order them from ebay and they would come from China for a fraction of the price: ebay.us/tWde27 Hope that helps and best of luck when you're fishing.

You said in another comment that there are two types of “wild/woodland/alpine strawberries”, one that does not produce runners and fruits for much longer than the other. Apparently the type that I have is the one that fruits for a short period and sends out a ton of runners. Do you still think it is worth it to grow? Or should I just try to get the type that fruits for much longer and forget the one that I have? Do they taste the same or any of them is better than the other? Thank you in advance.
@ThousandYardStare
@ThousandYardStare 20 күн бұрын
They taste the same but the Alpine strawberries (which I'm sitting next to at the start of the video) get much bigger fruits and produce crops for much longer. The smaller common wild strawberry plants have a short season since they seem to use their energy to produce a nation of runners which is great if you want lots of plants but not so good if you want lots of fruit. Therefore I'd say that the Alpine strawberries were the best bet if you want better quality fruit and a longer harvesting season. As long as they are divided every 3-4 years they will produce a nation of fruit and they frequently grow from seed around the parent plants.

Thank you so much! I just purchased some alpine strawberry seeds today. I couldn’t find any mature plants for sale, so I had to buy seeds. It’s a variety called “Rugen”, that’s what the label says, but I don’t think that matters that much, most varieties of alpine strawberries are probably very similar. It will take some time and patience to grow them but I’m sure the effort will be worth it. Thank you for your help and hope you have good harvests.

I'm on almost 600 miles now, I love the bike. I think your pedal and headset may have been a factory issue as I've had zero issues. Aside from being on the second set of brake pads, something I think they should probably look into. I might look into the basket, I have a bag on the front but the basket looks pretty durable and smart on it. Hope the ribs have healed ok now.
@ThousandYardStare
@ThousandYardStare 22 күн бұрын
I'm glad you like the bike. Yes, the headset and pedal are fine now that they've been tightened up but the pads are getting very low. The wear on the pads is probably due to the weight of the bike since it takes some slowing down when going down steep hills (due to the weight of the bike). The front basket weighs close to 3kg so it's not a lightweight option but it is extremely strong - I use it for foreign parcels when I ride to the local Post Office if there is something which can't be collected by Royal Mail. I think my miles are around 370 but I use this bike and my mountain bike for different rides. I wish my mountain bike went as fast up the hills as the electric bike and I wish the electric bike was as light as my mountain bike but neither of those things are going to happen, lol

Yes you can cut into your hands if you pull a fish in just using the line but only when the line is quite thin - that's why most people use 10lb-12lb line (or even heavier) on these types of reels. For the fish I target the line needs to be thinner since they will be able to see it.

Install J shaped channels into the ground so you can cool the backside of the panels with a fan and the cool earth temperature. Suck the heat directly off the back of the panels with the top of the J configuration into the ground and it should expel cool air from the bottom of the J configuration.

I'm not sure why I would want to use electricity to pull heat from the panels as they don't have a problem overheating. The mirrors only bounce evening light back - I have plenty of light on the panels until late afternoon. Each ground mounted panel has a huge hollow space under the panel which probably serves to cool the panel. I'm not sure what you mean by "cool the backside of the panels with a fan and the cool earth temperature" so some clarity on that would be good - thanks for watching.

With such a large garden I have no time for anything tool which is not quality and this hedge trimmer is quality.

lol, if you haven't caught bugger all that must mean that you've caught plenty of fish? I've caught plenty of fish too. Seriously though, this rod is great and I've bought 6 of them to put into different backpacks and extended survival kits. Last week I had a couple of decent trout on it while using my favorite silver Fox vibrax spinner but the video footage was terrible so I deleted it. It was lashing down with rain and the rain noise made the video unwatchable. If it starts lashing down with rain the fish can sometimes go berserk and attack anything since the heavy rain washes so many insects out of the trees, plus you can stalk closer to the fish without them seeing you due to all the disturbance on the water surface. Unfortunately most anglers hide under shelter during those conditions and wait for the rain to stop. I realized that it was the same situation when lamping for rabbits at night - in conditions of stiff wind and drizzling rain the rabbits are still out and sit tight, waiting to be shot from closer range. If you fish and shoot in all conditions you'll learn what the prey does in every weather scenario and that will add to the chances of catching / shooting something. Best of luck next time you're out fishing.

@@ThousandYardStare I’ve only tried on the drain and the river near my son I was advised a lure that looks realistic by the guy in the angling centre I think my problem is I reel the lure in too fast…. I’ve a spinner too and some other assorted lures I like the idea of having sort of wild waterways you can just pop down to instead of paying for a day ticket that’s why I got it.

@@markhauxwell1230 Just keep plugging away with various techniques - you'll eventually hit gold and when you do it will be a revelation. There is nothing I can say and no videos I can make which will take the place of personal experience so go for it, man. If you want to fish anywhere which is well off the beaten track with whatever method you want to use then go for it - the vast majority of people tasked with enforcing the 'fishing licence' are too lazy to venture beyond any easily accessible footpaths. In this age of DEI you're even less likely to see an 'enforcer' since they will probably be a transexual afro-american midget in a wheelchair.

@@markhauxwell1230 I'm just waiting for the Western empire to collapse then I can employ all my hunting, trapping and fishing skills in an unregulated environment. It will be great, lol It is definitely worth practicing every possible way to hunt, trap and fish for everything you can but that is more difficult the further you get away from the countryside. Luckily I've had a lifetime of living in the country where there is no 'official' oversight. I'd be quite happy to grab a bug-out-bag and head out into the wilderness for as long as I needed to and that all starts with fishing, or shooting, or trapping knowledge. Therefore I wish you the best of luck every time you're out.

You forgot to include the speed hooks. They automatically set as well. If you get the right size they are quite small like the yoga reel. As well the way the speed hook is made. You could possibly put six or eight in the same space that you could have one. Yo-yo.
@ThousandYardStare
@ThousandYardStare Ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion - I'd not heard of speed hooks before so they were not part of any of my kits, therefore not part of this video. It looks promising so I will get a few and give them a try. When searching 'speed hooks' in the UK very little comes up but there are several items which are the same and marketed as 'automatic fishing kit'.

Just picked me up one. Already have 2 of his backpacker extreme 6’2” or something spinner rods. Definitely top quality. Ready to give the fly rod a go soon as it comes out. Also picked up the bait caster reel since I already had the spinners to have the ability to go either route. I thought they went out of business. But ended up able to get them through email and on the phone for my order their website has just been down for a few days. Still is at the moment. But he did say they’re still in business and working to get it back online. An ya also 100% spot on. The Chinese ones. Are really pretty much junk. The quality just isn’t there. That’s what led me to find his. An I’ve put some miles on both of mine and their going strong. Never had a lick of any issues

The mulch scared me...it could be catch afire from heating up after concentrated reflections of light ...i think it safer if u remove the mulch ...
@ThousandYardStare
@ThousandYardStare Ай бұрын
Thanks for the clear explanation of your concerns. A previous comment mentioned the mulch but offered nothing in the way of an explanation - that comment just said "Bro ditch the mulch. U gna melt em xD". Reflected light is very different from concentrated light and since the light being reflected is not concentrated it is no more dangerous than the sunlight it is reflecting. If I'd had concave mirrors focusing a beam onto the panels then it would definitely be a fire risk if that beam was moved to concentrate on anything flammable but in this case I'm simply reflecting light, not concentrating it. However, I previously considered installing convex mirrors to spread the sunlight further than a simple straight reflection but those mirrors are very expensive compared to what I've used. If I ever come into disposable money I'll invest in some of the convex mirrors to spread the sunlight further and although it will weaken the intensity per area it will spread it over more panels than a simple reflected light. I hope that makes sense.
@daniellapain1576
@daniellapain1576 Ай бұрын
@@ThousandYardStare this will work but the space in between would overlap reflecting light from the mirrors in that kind of setup so the best place to have the panels is in the areas that the two mirrors meet.
@pondguru
@pondguru Ай бұрын
@@daniellapain1576 (my other channel) Yes that would work for when the sun is high in the sky but I only really need the light to be enhanced later in the day when the sun is behind the panels. If I put the mirrors too close to the panel it would shade the panels earlier in the day (especially in the Winter) when the sun is low in the sky. Since the solar system (12kW) is bigger than I need I'm really just trying to extend the time it generates power when the sun is low and behind the panels in the evening. Hope that makes sense.

Looks unpractical. The grip is unstable and you can easily miss a wind. Wouldn't use this in cold weather and with heavier spinners. I would prefer a tube - like hobo system.

Yes, the missing while winding is the main issue with this one and if it was only an inch bigger it would make all the difference. It would allow for much more gear to be stored in it too. It's a shame that Exotac have't released an XL version as it makes sense to do so.
