Hi there, Jeff from western Australia Perth. Just purchased a 34ft Bruce Roberts sloop, so found your post for refit informative. Very sound hull and decks but needs upgrade. Expecting it to be around the 20.000 mark when completed. Like yourselfs will be doing all labour and cabinet work myself. Hope you enjoy your time on the water.!!

Is there some reason you can't sail from Halifax, leaving mid-October, down to around Florida by November? People in Nova Scotia are acting like October is icebergs and hellfire.
@CoastLife9 ай бұрын
It's just Hurricane Season. If your paying attention to weather and take your time it's do able. But you really need to make sure you know what weather systems are coming and have plans to take cover on the way if one blows through.

I honestly don't know, I bought it at the closest inflatable boat dealer. Very expensive, and it needs to be specific to weather you have Hypalon vs PVC

Wow ! I had a 1984 Hunter 34 for 10 years and purchased it from a older couple who purchased it new , when I purchased the boat she was 4years old , the original owner didn’t do much upgrades other than some electronics and auto helm , in those 10 years I invested about $8000 in her with a new interior. I took all the carpeting down and put up Teak on the walls and all the covers that were open I made doors for on the outside I put teak on the decks installed and davit off the back for my dinghy , upgraded the Electronics, all new lifelines cushions, dodger, sheets in halyards, she had a TV, cell phone at that time and new stereo system I covered all the ceilings with simulated leather, including the buttons. The boat so beautifully and it was magnificent. We enjoyed it very well, and I sold it to a friend of mine who is a chiropractor I never heard from him or the boat again it makes me wonder.

a bit late but also fixing up a dinghy, where did you order the hyphalon from? and what glue you used?
@CoastLife9 ай бұрын
I salvaged a lot of Hypalon from the floor of the original, and purchased glue from a local inflatable dealer. It seems it's hard to get online due to shipping issues for hazardous materials.

Hey, is it cheaper to build a rib boat than to buy one? they are so expensive
@CoastLife9 ай бұрын
Uh.... Probably not. It's just someone have me those tubes, and the fiberglass mold. This one is still holding up! I had to put a few more patches in this year. But it held air for 3 years straight before that!

What about the cost of slip fee's at the marina and the mooring ball installation and monthly rental? Water and Diesel costs as well, although they would fall under operation costs for the season I suppose.

Where can you get the black sealing strips that stick the hull and the tubes together?
@firepuncher1 Жыл бұрын
Yes a late comment. We just bought this boat from the couple you sold it to. Binging the videos to see what shape she was in and what you do to her. One thing for sure, it was winterized better then than when we bought her this July past, the sails hadn't been removed or covered and water lines etc not drained LoL. So I'm guessing we are faced with redoing some things you fixed ugh. Meanwhile I'm going to catch up and we hope to meet you soon

Also, I think I just took the same bottle of Smirinoff out the other day. Along with 6 large black bags of garbage. As well as every cushion because they all smell like they've been sprayed down with diesel 🤢
