Our friend Michael comes to visit to help us on our first sail in our Hunter 34! After spending the winter refitting the boat, and endless projects afterwards, we finally get to raise the sails! In this video, we head to Chester NS and experience a lot of what cruising has to offer in such a short trip: fog, sun, swells, seasickness, motor issues, laughter, and fun.

Nicely done guys! Not only did this brief intro show the costs, but also pointed out some very good ways to save cash on materials that work well ... For instance, pex plumbing and alllure flooring from home depot. I just did 3 rooms in my house with Allure, and thought to myself that this would be a great marine product since it doesn't rot and has only a mechanical bond so it won't deteriorate from salt or moisture, and is 100% synthetic. The pex tubing ... it lasts in homes for an estimated 40+ years. again, synthetic so it doesn't rust, and is easy to replace. Thanks for posting guys, you have jut been added to my lst of interesting sailing shows, even more interesting than Vagabond on their 42 foot cat!

Hey Chad, pretty sweet trip, you sure earned it! We're on a parallel course, but in a much smaller Hunter 23.5 You're mastering the boat from bottom up, giving yourselves the best chance for what's to come. That's how we're doing it. So after a few times out now, I know I definitely need a checklist for getting the sails up and down because that's where I make all the mistakes with mainsheet, vang, reef lines, and topping lift. I'll definitely need another one for trim, but that will be next year.

Congratulations! Sounds like you had a wonderful and successful first overnight trip on your boat! Sorry to hear that you got seasick it's happens to the best of us (never me!) LOL! When I was in the Navy years ago my best friend got stationed on the ship while we were in the shipyard for a year. So the first time we went to sea for sea trials after the yard period he was sick from the minute we pulled away from the dock till the minute we got back. He was so severely sick that the Navy offered him a sea-duty waiver which I never heard of before. But he stayed and over came it. A year later, he was never sea sick again a day in his life. So good luck I think the more time you spend at sea the easier it gets!Good luck and can't wait to see the next trip.....girls don't poop???? Yeah! they just explode LOL!

Good sail guys! If the wind dies down next time, but there is still a light breeze, motor sailing slightly off the wind makes the boat smoother and faster so you you have more time to drink more beers at anchor!! (Very important) Cheers!

A trick i use to combat sea sickness is as soon as i can i go below and as often as i can and when i start to feel the queezieness coming on i tell myself to "stop it, it's just the movement of the boat" but you have to believe it will work and it has every time for me. I little mind over matter goes a long way but if you think you are going to get sick then you will, mind over matter the other way. Know it, believe in what your saying and you can make it go away, sounds stupid but has worked every time for me.

Hi Guys, good to see you enjoying yourself. You put the hard work in now go play. Also like what you said at the 14.26 now you are beginning to be sailor. Also you need to take out the Slack in the headsail, you need to pull it up more. I know it can not always be avoided but try not to stand in the anchor well out with all that anchor line around your feet .

Looks great under sail, looked at a hunter horizon 23 before buying mine and they are well built British boats. Didn't really like the small self tacking jib on it but could see the appeal due to the ease of sailing but the sail was so small. Mine is 150% and where most of the sail power comes from.

Wow you guys are pro's now! My 13 yo son and I just got back from sailing from LaHave to Lunenburg, Mahone Bay and Big Tancook Island in our Alberg 30. It was our first time on the ocean - ever - so a bit scary. We made it though. We had an engine issue too when the engine failed to start coming into Big Tancook. We had to pick up a mooring under sail. She started right up the next morning. I think there is a vapour lock problem. Hopefully we will see you out there sometime. Phil

This does not sound as though it would do anything to stave off the queasiness, get some ear plugs, the squishy to fit type but not sound elimination. It does something for the eustation canal and reduces the brain signal to get ill. (Especially when going down below to work on anything.) and they’re cheap so get a handful. Continuing.......
