Some reasons for why a non-Christian "religion" may call its house of worship a "church", or try to present itself as a denomination of Christianity, even though theologically, the religion has nothing to do with Christianity: - To borrow theological legitimacy from Christianity, by implying a connection to Christianity. - To be interesting and more acceptable to people in a predominantly Christian society. - To allow members to present themselves as "church-going" to those around them, and present themselves as being part of a legitimate major religion. - Simply because "church" is a familiar term locally, and is associated with the majority religion. If they were in another country with a majority from a different religion, they would try to associate with that religion instead.

Came across this video being I love to learn about and understand others I watched it. The guy doing the interview is obviously adverse to Islam and obviously a trinitarian. The way he squirmed when he talked about Islam was hilarious. Obviously there is ONE GOD. As a trinitarian he is oblivious to anything Jesus taught and said other than the death of Jesus he was kind of a madman. Quite a blasphemous thing to say about his God is it not? This is another reason why Islam by the Will of the One and Only true God will be the biggest religion in history. Things that make me go hmmmmm.

Many TRUTH CLAIMS and assertions by the reverend violate basic laws of logic (i.e., bad philosophy....). Stunning how many assertions lack sound reason and are contradictory (self defeating). Also interesting how effective these fallacies impress viewers who've commented here. A few examples: The "truth" about the "divine" can't be known (paraphrased). Is this true? The reverend asserts it to be so (he wants you to believe it too). The reverend describes the "divine" and "universe" as "infinite". Where does he get this idea? He doesn't say. This sounds like a description of a monotheistic God. At other points he contradicts himself describing the "divine" (e.g., God) in more pantheistic terms, like an unseen force that permeates through creation (and in us). With respect to the universe as infinite, modern science / scientists are virtually in agreement that the universe is not infinite. Time, space, and matter (the universe) had a beginning (i. e., the "big bang"). Reverend's explanation of truth is selectively subjective (some truth is objective, e.g. "the sky is blue"), however, other "truth" is dependent upon each individual as they know it. Reverend asserts "Truth" about God, and religion, has NOT been revealed by one book, one religious group, or one person, (Here again he's making a truth claim). Notice, his one religious group (UU) is exempt from his assertion. He wants to have it both ways: "Capital T truth" (whatever that means..) is not known or knowable by one religion while his one religion gathers the parts of "truth" from all world religions and ancient wisdom, brings it to "community" and "tests it" to get a better sense of "god" and the divine (i.e., the truth of it). You see, all world religions got it wrong on the whole (in his view) they only got parts of the truth. Reverend suggests its quite arrogant for one religion to claim to understand the divine. Not him or his group though.... they're exempt from this assertion. This is why this particular group started to begin with and continues today: to get the "right" version of the "divine" and religion, or rather, a better sense of it. A truth quest with no arrival to discovering the truth is more important than discovering it. One has to wonder why you would commit to a quest for truth with no hope of finding it, if you believe what is claimed here. How does reverend know that the "divine" (God) cannot be known; is that true? It's stated that anyone in reverend's group can believe God is one or three or NONE, in nature. Of course he suggests that's really not the case: In his view, if someone is so intolerant and exclusive to believe one truth (religion) with respect to God, he wouldn't be able to honor their "truth" in that way. Such a person would probably be more comfortable some where else (wink-wink). In another place its asserted that what someone (from his group) believes is not important. He's very interested in how someone aught to live "just and loving". He offers no premises to support the validity, source, or grounding in his moral code. These are just a few examples, there are many more contradictions, fallacies, and illogical assertions with no supporting premises or evidence: The result is philosophical confusion. Fascinating interview.

This is a great interview. I wish that your information included more information about the person being interviewed. I was born into a Universalist congregation. The church that I belonged to was founded by the man who also founded a school that became Caltech. As a growing Universalist I experienced the coming together of the Universalists and the Unitarians. This religion is one that more people should join. It encourages a search for truth, and does not proclaim that any one actually knows the truth. The reference to the pulpit in this particular church accents the reality that UU clergy are a lot like the Rabbis of the Jewish faith. They are teachers and equals, not some super authority of the theology.

I’ve been to a few very traditional churches with anti gay, anti other religions messages. They also would talk about how men are closer to God then women and would use God to abuse their position as preachers, ministers ect. They’d threaten people with hell if they didn’t agree with everything that was said in church or if people didn’t come to church every Sunday… needless to say, it was horrible. After being religiously abused in a church as a child and going to church after church, I have finally found a religion and values I hold and where I feel a belonging to. We’re all trying to find God and we all need to try to create a better world for everyone, not let things such as religion divide us. I really can appreciate what Unitarian Universalist churches stand for because I’ve been on the opposite side and know which one I prefer. This interview was done very well and helped me figure out what I can confidently identify with. God bless❤️

Evolution is a lie. Macroevolution has never been observed .
@MikeRosoftJH
@MikeRosoftJH Жыл бұрын
And guess macroevolution is defined as the sort of evolution which hasn't been observed? Theory of evolution is based on an idea that various traits can increase or decrease an organism's chance of reproduction; these traits can be inherited, and therefore the frequency of their occurrence in a population will increase or decrease. Over time, minor changes can accumulate into major ones. (Just like one step will not take you from New York to Los Angeles, but by one step after each other you'll eventually get there. Claiming that "microevolution" is possible but "macroevolution" - no matter how you define it - is not is like claiming that you can get from New York to Washington, but not to Los Angeles.)

Well, does Hitler deserve some sort of punishment in the afterlife? Guess he does; though I am not a fan for punishment for the sake of punishment. An eternal punishment in hell? Absolutely not; nobody does. (Who are you to claim that Hitler couldn't be rehabilitated in the afterlife? After all, it is written: "With God, all things are possible." For instance, the early Christian thinker Origen believed any punishment in hell to be temporary, and that everybody would eventually be saved; allegedly, he also believed that this included even the devil.)

My congregation will soon be searching for a minister, and I hope Aaron White would give us a look, were he ever to consider leaving Texas for somewhere farther north. He speaks so lucidly about our religion that he just might fill the shoes of the brilliant minister who recently left us after two decades. This interview might create the impression, however, that all UUs are liberal Christians or theists of some sort. Self-identified Christians have been a minority among UUs for over a century, and some of them have united in a subgroup, the UU Christian Fellowship. Our former minister, during her time with us, became increasingly open about not being a theist, and I have reason to believe that she has been a nontheist for most of her adult life. Yet she is often rated as one of the outstanding clergy of the UUA; and one veteran minister called her "the best of the best." I live in the Midwest, by the way, where Unitarianism developed a strong humanistic element in the 1800s, especially after the Civil War. Our former minister came from the Northeast precisely because she was attracted by that history. So Rev. Aaron might be a little too godly for my congregation, though there's another UU congregation not far away where he'd fit in very well!

Christian deism is a paradox. Deism is simply believing God set the universe into order, does not interfere, all living things have free will and everything follows natural law. Believing in Christianity in the trinitarian or Unitarian sense contradicts natural law. The act of God sending us his son would violate natural law. Having said that, a deist can certainly admire the story of Jesus and choose to live their life like the Jesus of the New Testament.

This interview is really wonderful, but I can't help feeling that the divine nature and the metaphysical nature of Christ is being overlooked? I share the belief with Unitarian Universalist Church that there are many ways to channel God. Some channel tthrough Jesus Christ, some through Buddha, others through Judaism and so on: they are all Pathways to divinity. Also you say you don't believe in the wrath of God or punishment but doesn't that coincide with Karma? I personally believe there is punishment for evil doings and we may have to pay in the afterlife, whether you choose to call it karma or purgatory. I intuitively feel there will be a period of cleansing, hell maybe a form of witnessing after death the pain and suffering we've caused in other people. As you say there are many Pathways to divinity and as we are all energy I do believe there is life after death. Some people believe in reincarnation, or heaven which could be defined in many ways, others believe in astral planes. Is what I'm thinking inclusive of and allowable in the Unitarian Universalist Church? If you are open to all beliefs surely you are open to this? Thank you I am truly enjoying your message of peace and love. God bless you

to summarize - "we believe everyone can discover a piece of the Universal Truth, but we disagree with the subjective truth." But to affirm that someone has discovered a piece of the Universal Truth, you need to have an idea what is the Ultimate Universal Truth. That is so confusing. To disagree with someone's subjective truth is also subjective. What a mess

Malachi 2:3. And your point is...? Seriously, many people believe that Jesus is the only way to salvation; but some believe the same with a twist: Jesus is indeed the only way to salvation, but he's the way to salvation for everybody, and therefore everybody will be saved. Seriously, why should salvation be conditioned on believing in God and Jesus? And what's the point of arguing from the Bible anyway? Many people don't believe in God, many people believe in a different God and religion than yours, and many people believe in a different denomination of Christianity than yourself. (For example, any Muslim will tell you that believing that Jesus is in any way equal to God is very wrong, and that people who so believe may be in danger of hell.)

Dangerous, It removes consequences of sin... Jesus never said there wasnt a consequence for sin. Why is there a need for repentance if God loves us all and when we die we are just going to be with Him when we die? First - to say every human being is a child of God would negate John 1: 12But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: Why the need for a savior to restore us to the father? Second - as trinitarians believe hell is not forever. It is a fire fire is used for purification. Everyone must die to self everyone will go through a fire and be purified, like in Isaiah it says that believers will go through the fire but will not get burned Isaiah 43:2 . This is because those who truly believe and played down their life have made the decision to die of self. That's why it says they won't be hurt at all by the second death because the second death which is referred to inhale is the death of self how can they be hurt by something that they've already died of? Revelation 2:11 As explained how won't be the same for everybody because everybody will need a different amount of purification as explained in Luke 12:45-48 The good news is that in the end the Great and glorious day of the Lord which the Bible speaks of when he shall become all in all every man shall be gathered into the love of God. Some people will have to go through hell to get to heaven. This is explained in the parable of the Centurion and his sick servant. At first the Centurion establishes his understanding of the chain of command that Christ is under the authority of the father as he is under Authority Christ has people under him oh, the first fruits the anointed sons of God just as the Centurian has soldiers under him. And he gives an example I tell this one to go and he goes and this one to come and he comes and ignore ologist that all Jesus has to do is speak and his commands will be followed then Jesus turns to the disciples and makes a statement about the Feast of Abraham Isaac and Jacob and the subjects of the Kingdom which are the first fruits the anointed sons of God Christ soldiers shall be cast out into outer Darkness there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Trinitarians preach that this means he's throwing unrepentant people into hell this is not true casting is a fishing term. He is sending his army into hell 1 Corinthians 15: 22-26 Even Roman's explains ◄ Romans 8:21 ► that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. One thing that I loved about Unitarian teaching was revealing that trinitarian belief causes division. But so does this when it's brought to an extreme. The way Christ has revealed it to me is that his image which is the pure image of God the Father at some point was dropped as a mirror and broken into pieces and people are walking around picking up pieces of that beer saying this is God this is our savior this is Christ anything that does not look like this is deceptive and wrong and everybody's putting that piece into a little box and not accepting anything other than what is in that little box but you cannot put God into a box and because everyone thinks they're right and everyone else is wrong they're afraid to come together but if everyone came together and the trinitarians could hear the truth about who Christ was the Messiah the Son of God they could learn things from the Unitarian but then there's truth that the trinitarian has that the Unitarian does not there are truths in the Mormon church that we need. I believe the problem is that for a long long long time people look at what's being taught and something doesn't sit well with in them so they moved off and started teaching different doctrines and maybe 40% of that Doctrine was true and 60% of it was their own thoughts emotions feelings and their own understanding and over the years everything's gotten diluted and it's just become a mess we should stop pointing fingers at each other stop judging each other and come together and learn from each other.

Problem with His belief: Its not for man to choose how to forgive sin. Did Jesus teach that one may reject Him for any reason and live? You can not serve two maters choose who you will follow. In Christ all things are held together. In Christ we live and are sustained. He is the true vine that nourishes the branches. This man's church appears to rule by their "own" authority. Those who listen and learn from the Father go to the Son and "Jesus" will raise them up on the last day. We do believe in a resurrection of the righteous and unrighteous. The lake of fire and 2nd death were expressed with clear language in the book of revelation. Daniel 12 speaks of both resurrections as well as Jesus and Paul before Felix "I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man." What do you think God will do with His enemies. And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who conquer will inherit these things, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, the murderers, the fornicators, the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
