An odd voice, something of an acquired taste. Having said that, I acquired a taste for him. Heard him in the theater twice (Otello and Calaf), and loved the sound.

I watched this live on TV, then a month or so later, got to see them live in La Fille du Regiment in New Orleans during the annual Met tour (sadly discontinued). They sounded fantastic.

An absolutely definitive performance of this aria that in beauty of expression & timbre, IMO, has seldom, if ever been surpassed. The Klemperer recording was the first complete Zauberflöte recording I ever heard & my first of hearing Janowitz’ unique instrument. An album of her Mozart concert arias followed a bit later & is every bit as memorable. In her time & in this repertoire Margaret Price comes close & I have not heard any sopranos of this type, to this day, that in many ways, measures up to either of them.

when tucker sang forza complete with warren in the 1950's and in the 1960's with both bastianini and merrill they sang it a little differently but this was for TV and a concert, so all out singing in a concert gala setting of course, this was great for them both and veteran tucker was 58 years old, as a comparison the 1961 same duet with merrill/tucker is on you tube from the complete met opera radio brdcst. no matter they where both grerat!

Я услышал эту запись впервые случайно на советской виниловой пластинке, когда еще ничего не знал ни о Саломее Штрауса, ни о Нильссон. Это звучание потрясло меня своим великолепием навсегда. Я обожаю эту запись, видео делает все ещё лучше. Это можно слушать и смотреть бесконечно. Спасибо!❤

Hasta este momento todo tenia espiritu de gala, entraban, cantaban, se aplaudia a los grandes...todo muy festivo y llego este fenomeno y tiro como especie de un manto solemne, todos quedaron petrificados ante esta interpretacion unica, magistral, sublime. Luego ella termina y saluda de la manera mas natural del mundo. Estos suecos estan a otro nivel vibracional!
