6:25. I love Maestro Chailly's smile and reaction. He's thinking "... well done lads. Thats how you fuckin' do it!"

Riccardo Chailly is a truly genius. What a deliciously and masterly conducted. Neill has the "fiamma" of a big tenor , with the perfect weight for Arnold and very suitable for this role

Superb!!!! I have the utmost respect for any tenor who can pull this one off - it has to be the toughest aria in the tenor repertoire!! How recent is this recording? I haven't heard much from him since his wonderful singing in Verdi's "Oberto" under Marriner with Sam Ramey. What a joy too to hear this conducted intelligently by maestro Chailly - not the ridiculous conducting by Muti! More vids of Mr Neill PLEASE!!!!!

@Cantormatis I think you missed the mark - he is a superb singer, carrying on the traditions and skill of Schmidt, Tauber, Bjorling, DiStefano, Konya, and Wunderlich. All the fans of Corelli and Pavorotti should pay attention to the ring in his top notes.

@Cantormatis I understand your point. Tauber had a great voice, but he did not have the high notes for this aria. With my 30+ years of training with Horne's first teacher and the inheritor of his studio, I think that it is interesting how Mr. Neill handles the high notes. Fans and experts that enjoy Corelli and Pavorotti should listen to Mr. Neill.

Tauber's my favorite, but I'd be first to say he didn't (nor should he have) sing Arnold. He didn't have the top needed, nor did he have the needed power throughout the range. Bjoerling didn't have the latter either, but he did have a strong top, especially pre-'54, and in fact he did do half a dozen Arnolds in Swedish only when quite young -- a notable feat, in one of the 5 hardest tenor parts ever. Neil is certainly solid here in these fearsome 5 minutes, sung uncut with 5 ringing high Cs.
