Sir if you dont mind i would like your thoughts and advice. Im an 18 year old in the Army currently and im doing okay, im pretty good at soldiering and i try to take care of my body, dont drink or smoke like the rest of the soldiers or play videogames at all, just weightlift, work on my car and travel when i have the time off, but i have always seemed to cause or have trouble follow me in one way or another. Most of the trouble i get myself into is petty small stuff that blows over eventually but it seems like i cant conciously stop myself making dumb decisions all the time. I recognize the issue and am trying to work on it but my personality it seems leads me to trouble and conflict with other people occasionally. I fucked around and did drugs in high school and dropped out when i was 16, and then joined the army at 17 trying to work towards a better me and future, earned my GED soon after turning 18. But the stress sometimes clouds my mind and my anger gets out of hand occasionally. Have you ever dealt with that mental block of making good decisions when young?

Good explanation. With Long Travel / Spring-Under setups, do you find the need to run traction bars to eliminate the wrap?
@Bent_Bronco2 ай бұрын
It depends on vehicle weight/horsepower/tire size etc. but it’s certainly common to find them on spring under builds. Spring under helps, but big HP can still twist springs up. I’ll be running a traction bar on my build, but it’s ~700HP on 39’s and a pig 😂

I've often pondered this, and suspected Custom had something to do with. Now I know. As a '78 F-250 Custom owner myself, I do have the round headlights. Now, my other question is why my 460 still rocks what seems to be the Duraspark 1 ignition system? This has been a point of contention since I first bought the truck in 1996. Mine has the small, female socket style cap & matching rotor, yet catalogs everywhere insist my truck should be equipped with the large, two-piece Male terminal cap. Near as I can tell it's all original. The only part of my harness that has been tampered with is the "Trailer Special" section, midway down the frame. Does that have anything to do with trim packages? Or is it leftover from 1976?
@79dent29 күн бұрын
There was 2 460's they put in these trucks. The first and more common was code "A" which can be identified by the 4th digit on the vin number. This was the federal emissions engine used in the F150 (rarely seen) and the lower GVWR F250's. These had DS2, and despite being a 1975 coded engine, were put into trucks built in late 75, they were all sold as 76 models UP THROUGH 1979!!! The other engine was the "J" code. It was common although less common. This was the engine mainly used in the higher trim F250's and F350's, mainly crew cabs and super cabs, camper specials, trailer specials, etc. So it's likely you have a J code truck. These were either emissions exempt or atleast were not fitted with a catalytic converter. These were rated 5 hp more and ran the DS1 ignition system from 73 all the way through 79. The DS2 system was introduced in 75 for the 76 model to meet emissions regulations. The DS1 was used because those were put into trucks that didn't need to meet emissions due to the GVWR, and they used DS1 because, according to Ford, "it made more power". It was only 5 more hp, but at the time 5 hp meant alot in marketing, when manufacturers were putting out engines with WAY less hp then ever before. Check your vin. If its a J code it's factory. If it's an A code, likely it's been swapped. Both ignition systems are interchangeable if you swap distributors, so it would be hard to tell if it's even factory to be honest.
@B1GDaddyFatStax29 күн бұрын
@@79dent That's probably the best explanation I've heard. My VIN is F25JKBBJ****, so that checks out. Thank you!

How do you recommend measuring for limit straps? Is it when the leafs begin to seperate out of the retaining clips?
@johncunningham482017 күн бұрын
Limiting straps are to prevent excess Axle Movement from Ripping your DAMPERS in half . Not about the Springs in any way . To protect the Shock Absorbers .
@calebfleming160717 күн бұрын
@@johncunningham4820 yes I know that. With certain spring setups leaf separation seems like it will cause binding if you let them droop too far, therefore requiring you to limit travel with limit straps. Limit straps could also be used to prevent cv axle bind, components colliding, steering binds, etc.

Outstanding young man, you are about 98% right. And thank you for the clarification. The younger generation needs to know. The only inaccuracy is that the F250 “highboy” chassis actually started in 66 on year only for that body style and all used a 3000 or 3600 pound Dana 44 front axle utilizing trunnion ball on the end of the axle, the open knuckle Dana 44, 3600 pound heavy duty F250 axle actually came out in 1976 with the first year. Introduction of disc brakes and carried over 1/2 year into Early production 77 when Ford changed up the chassis, married the transmission and transfer case. and a reverse rotation, high pinion front differential. Other than those 1 1/2 years you are actually correct 76 and Early 77 F250 front axles are nearly impossible to find parts for. I’m 62 years old I’ve been building and working on these trucks since I was a teenager. With that said, I think you did a great job, dispelling many of the myths that seem to float around the Internet.
@stanwalls64345 ай бұрын
Glad you clarified that because I have a 66 250 4x4 with the 352 but also had 456-455 gearing and the 63 bed style and it is certainly a highboy
