On the Model Y 2024 the retrofit will not work as you will receive a debug error. Tesla does not allow the module to write back to the car system. The fix for this is to call tesla service desk and asked them to please allow the module to make the required change. Tesla will charge you 15 mins Labor which amounts to a little over $50. I traded my 2023 model 3 for a 2024 model Y and transferred the module over from the 3 to the Y. A little top tip.

Any of them should work. Eg, put your key card on the center console while you hold the brake pedal down and press up on the blinker stalk
@sedace6734
@sedace6734 4 ай бұрын
On the gateway unlock screen--I got stuck there as well, when you press up on the turn stalk you have to lift it higher than normal amount, all the way until it stops. If you do that while pressing the brake and have your key on the console it'll show a countdown timer immediately and unlock when it's done. As others noted though the 2024 update breaks the process after that and a service technician will be needed to unlock the update (best I can tell).

It appears Tesla may have removed the ability to complete a HomeLink self-install beginning with the 2024 software updates. I purchased the module, bracket, and screw and installed the hardware myself on my 2023 Model Y. When I ran the HomeLink retrofit routine in service mode, I received an "unauthorized configuration change" error message. I researched and found others having the same issue. It appears the solution requires a Tesla technician to add HomeLink to the vehicle's configuration. Fortunately, Tesla mobile service did this for me at no cost, but this may change.
@UrbanTinkerer
@UrbanTinkerer 5 ай бұрын
This looks like a bug in recent firmware builds; hopefully Tesla fixes it. In the meantime, I urge you to make a service appointment; several people have had success getting a technician to make the gateway change for “free” as a result of the self service tools not working as designed.

Anyone thinking about a hybrid, just be careful and do your research if you have a hot water recirculator. I was not aware that the rheem hybrid I have does not work with recirculators, because it relies on a 25 degree temp drop to detect demand. But recirculators average the temp out between tanks. Also mine has failed so many times and must recently the upper element relay getting stuck on, and tripping the hot water overtemp switch, for a lovely cold shower in the morning. Several parts on the unit also leak. I'm just not impressed

Thanks for showing the correction (I wish I had seen the link to this the first time I installed it). Taping the bolt to the socket when first threading it was super helpful! I first tried to thread the bolt after clipping on the bracket with the alignment pins... but the bracket fell off into the frunk while I was fidgeting with the bolt. Luckily it didn't slide into where I couldn't retrieve it. So then, I inserted the bolt through the bracket hole, and while the bracket was loosely dangling on the bolt and my hand, i was able to find the mounting hole with my other hand to start threading it. Once i got a few turns in, I clipped the bracket in before further hand tightening the bolt. I was able to get a small 1/4 wrench and 10mm socket to finish tightening the 10mm mounting bolt that came with my homelink device and bracket.

Thank you for this video! It was super easy to follow along and do this on my 2023 Model Y. It was even cheaper by buying the Homelink device/bracket/screw on ebay for around $187. One thing I did differently was not disconnecting the frunk light cable from the panel. After unsnapping the panel, i just guided the panel with the attached wire through the hole (I had difficulty unclipping the wire harness and didn't want to break it).

Great video and thanks for the correction posting also. Did you have to disconnect the tesla 12V battery before attempting this? I just took at look at the Tesla Model Y service manual and there is a step in there for that. Curious since I plan on doing this myself and didn't want to do the extra steps if not necessary.

You said you were having compressor issues. I assume that is related to your evap temp? Mine just started throwing the a005 error and from what I've gathered, it might be that thermistor and that it is a pretty common failure. Just curious if that was what yours ended up being.

Note that with some home link setups you have to press the 'activate' button repeatedly until the training is complete and the garage door opens.... One symptom of failed programming is the program status light on the opener flashing red when home link is activated in the car but not resulting in the door being opened. It should normally flash several times during a successful opening event, not just once.
