Extremely helpful - thank you! 2:15 You don't need a flathead, you can just push the trim pin out from the other side - but cover it with your other hand or it will go flying inside the bumper. Don't ask me how I know...

Great video!! Showed and explained everything so well. For anyone else NOT seeing the HomeLink icon after service reboot on the main screen... First try Power off via safety > power off waiting 2 to several mins. Press the break pedal to wake the screen up after 2 mins. You WONT see the HomeLink icon if on 2023.2.12a and above on the main screen. Tap the normal Garage Icon and now the HomeLink icon should show there underneath the default MyQ one. This drove me nuts thinking the install wasn't picking up the HomeLink. Enjoy!!!

For anyone doing this on a 2023 Model 3, the wiring harness has moved to the middle of the front where the frunk is. It's about where the connections are for the frunk open button. It moved probably because of the lack of parking sensors) and you'll find it fairly easily. There are two spots where you can mount the bracket for the module, facing outward. You can get a 10mm socket behind it.

Did you install yours up and down or side to side? I have mine up and down as that pin seems to lock in. But, it does stretch the wire. I believe it's good to go but wanted to check with you. I also mounted mine on the drivers side location. Appreciate your confirmation and help.

Thank you for this video! It was super easy to follow along and do this on my 2023 Model Y. It was even cheaper by buying the Homelink device/bracket/screw on ebay for around $187. One thing I did differently was not disconnecting the frunk light cable from the panel. After unsnapping the panel, i just guided the panel with the attached wire through the hole (I had difficulty unclipping the wire harness and didn't want to break it).

Note that with some home link setups you have to press the 'activate' button repeatedly until the training is complete and the garage door opens.... One symptom of failed programming is the program status light on the opener flashing red when home link is activated in the car but not resulting in the door being opened. It should normally flash several times during a successful opening event, not just once.

It appears Tesla may have removed the ability to complete a HomeLink self-install beginning with the 2024 software updates. I purchased the module, bracket, and screw and installed the hardware myself on my 2023 Model Y. When I ran the HomeLink retrofit routine in service mode, I received an "unauthorized configuration change" error message. I researched and found others having the same issue. It appears the solution requires a Tesla technician to add HomeLink to the vehicle's configuration. Fortunately, Tesla mobile service did this for me at no cost, but this may change.
@UrbanTinkerer
@UrbanTinkerer 3 ай бұрын
This looks like a bug in recent firmware builds; hopefully Tesla fixes it. In the meantime, I urge you to make a service appointment; several people have had success getting a technician to make the gateway change for “free” as a result of the self service tools not working as designed.

A few corrections and clarifications for anyone attempting this at home: - At 3:55 in this video I install the HomeLink Mounting bracket on the wrong side. See this video for how to correctly mount it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gMyDmrFenLnUcp8.html - I mention in the video that the correct socket should be "E11" as my E12 was too big and my E10 was too small at the time of filming. However, with a different set of sockets, E12 was the correct size. - If you have a Model 3, the official mounting location is in the front center of the car (and may not be present on 2023 and later models without an additional part). Installing HomeLink on a model 3 typically requires removing or loosening the front bumper cover. There are alternate (unofficial) mounting brackets and locations that are easier, Eg, www.thingiverse.com/thing:4069700

On the Model Y 2024 the retrofit will not work as you will receive a debug error. Tesla does not allow the module to write back to the car system. The fix for this is to call tesla service desk and asked them to please allow the module to make the required change. Tesla will charge you 15 mins Labor which amounts to a little over $50. I traded my 2023 model 3 for a 2024 model Y and transferred the module over from the 3 to the Y. A little top tip.

On the gateway unlock screen--I got stuck there as well, when you press up on the turn stalk you have to lift it higher than normal amount, all the way until it stops. If you do that while pressing the brake and have your key on the console it'll show a countdown timer immediately and unlock when it's done. As others noted though the 2024 update breaks the process after that and a service technician will be needed to unlock the update (best I can tell).
