Hey! It was a mix the colour film was Kodak Ultramax 400 and the black and white was ILFORD HP5+ shot at 800

I was very lucky that a family friend had it tucked in a box and didn’t use it for 10 years so decided to gift it to me. Sent it for servicing and it should roll for at least a couple of decades. They had pretty nice green screen studios back in the day init? 🤣

Yes the lens has a motor that moves forwards and backwards depending on your chosen focusing distance. And the movement happens as you press the shutter button 😅🤷🏼‍♂️ I dunno to be honest I found it very weird too

I have a Pentax camera with that same screw. In black but no chance of losing it.

I have the 17 and trust me, that screw is TIGHT af. Once it’s in place, it isn’t going anywhere. Plus you don’t even notice the screw cuz it’s in your hand the whole time you’re shooting with it. This camera is built really well.

This is amaaaaaazing! I love this camera for the exact same reason! I tried before shooting 110 to have a less fuss experience and the “spy camera” sort of portability. But 1 image quality drops considerably, 2 getting it developed and scanned is a pain and 3 there aren’t as many film stocks available for it so yeah… half frame is a good alternative for shoot and don’t think too much for me

@@shotbychrisl Well, I'm not giving up hope that Pentax will eventually bring the equivalent of the Nikon FM or FM2 onto the market. Because the only Pentax camera that comes reasonably close to an FM or FM2 with a metal leaf shutter is the Pentax K2, where you can at least shoot from 1/125 to 1/1000 of a second without batteries. The only cameras with K-mount that work completely mechanically, apart from the battery-operated light meter, come from Ricoh, Cosina and Chinon, or are their export models. And such a fully mechanically functioning SLR camera directly from Pentax, perhaps also with a 1/4000 as the fastest mechanical shutter speed, that would be a real challenge and there would be no need to use other manufacturers. After all, Pentax and Ricoh have been one company since 2011, so it might be possible to tackle something like this together. Greetings from Germany wishes you Lutz

I still use my Voigtlander Bessa L with the 25mm Skopar. Paid for 20 years ago, zone focusing, no flash, accurate metering and FULL FRAME.

And what do you mean by emphasizing full format? That you might not be part of the Pentax 17's main target group and are upset that after 20 years Pentax hasn't included digital in their main target group with their first new analogue camera? By the way, the main target group are 18-35 year olds who have never taken photos with an analog camera before, have only taken photos mainly or entirely with a smartphone and therefore have completely different viewing habits, namely upright. By the way, everyone else who gets the camera is a bonus and since, according to my information, there are also many who got a Pentax 17 among those who are not in the main target group, there are now delivery bottlenecks because of the demand is very high. So what do you want to express now?

@@michaelbruchas6663 a camera that today costs around £300 on an ebay gamble no tested and no warranties. Definitely a good camera, but this is not the ideal scenario for someone starting on film from 0 in 2024 which is the point of my video. The 17 isnl't a camera that was aim for people that have been in the photography industry for decades.

Hey thanks for the feedback! yes the filmstock its actually pretty weird one it was the first time I was shooting it! The camera is a great performer! It has limitations but well like any other camera.

Completely fair point. It is a tool and the tool has to work according to the way you craft your images. It is not for everyone.

Thanks 🙏 well it depends there are other manufacturers making film cameras nowadays Kodak Reto makes some refillable “disposable like cameras”, then Pentax, Mint Cameras that’s about to launch their Rollei 35AF and obviously on the high end Leica. There is quite a bit of interest in the industry and the community also there are more and more commercial clients asking photographers to produce analogue work so there is definitely space in the market for it! Hopefully the Pentax project will be successful enough for them to have some future cameras developed.

Great! Absolutely valid idea, however Ebay is full of 30 years old used cameras which in most cases come with no warranty, never been serviced, neither tested so there is some gamble there. Second a 5D is a full frame sensor digital camera that has absolutely nothing to do with film apart that you can capture images with it, the look, the feel, the process of image creation have nothing to do with anything analogue. this is not a "vintage" neither I ever mentioned the word "vintage" in the video once it is simply a film camera manufactured in 2024, which me as a film enthusiast and a person that absolutely loves film and the film community then it is a big deal.

Digital camera ≠ Film camera, and with new camera you’re sure it wont break after 1 roll

@@shotbychrislCompletely agree. Film doesn’t need to be vintage. Half the films available these days are pretty modern and with a modern scanner you can get dynamic range and color you won’t get from most digital cameras. And the issues with there only being used cameras is not just that they might fail or need to be serviced but with analog photography going on they will one become more expensive as they get older and less reliable. New film cameras are one of the most important things for the medium to survive, for people to have tools they can actually rely on.

Hahahaha I call it my turtle shell it goes with me everywhere I go, I carry drone, 2 or three camera bodies (film/digital), 360 camera, gimbal etc etc etc xD

Mmmm… the only drawback that films cameras have is that you have to buy film and it requires a constant investment to get new photos… there is no other draw back if you have a decent camera and keep it serviced with an actual camera technician then there should be no malfunction no film waste

The camera also is a manual rewind which should be reliable.

Sure I still haven’t seen a properly functioning Legendary camera for £100 and been working on the photography industry for the last 7 years. If it is not your jam I respect it but spreading negativity does not help the industry neither the community in any way 🥱

@@shotbychrisl in EVERY camera store you get well functioning used film cameras without spending a fortune. this is no negativity it s just my opinion.... nobody would have used half frame without that massive marketing campaign going on on this camera. if you wanna be an everybody s darling reviewer in hope of being accepted by the brand so be it :D that doesn t change my mind.
