Am I correct in thinking you are using individual photos in an app to create your mesh? I'm using a revoscan mini and not having much luck, a photogrammetry app that works with images might suit me better, all I want to scan are small objects

Hello, thanks for the video! I do have a question though; if you are using camera settings that show no other light than the flash, what is the purpose of the softboxes? Just for filming this video, or do they also have a linear polarizing filter on them?

A quick search for common sublimating (evaporating) materials resulted in Moth Balls and Iodine, much cheaper alternatives to the expensive sprays.

Hey man, absolutely insane work and great tutorial, fast and efficient. What polarizing filter are you using? I also live in New Zealand, I can't find polarizing sheet film anywhere and the Amazon sellers are dodgy at best..

On the point of real time. Do you think a high end modern cpu could align as fast as say 30fps in actual realtime? Even as low as 720p? I'm curious about applications in mapping terrain in realtime for 4wd'ing.

Hi Erik, I’m making a game on unreal and I’m getting inconsistent results mostly based on the dark edges and reality capture thinking that those edges are voids. Even when multiple angles show that it shouldn’t be. I also have alignment issues when I turn the object just like I would if it wasn’t shot in a void. I’m using a canon RP with a tamron 24-70mm cross polarized ring flash and circular polarizer. I use Lightroom to take out all the black and try to use contrast and black and white levels to eliminate the ring/edge of darkness furthest from flash but I get inconsistent results. Thank you for any advice you can offer!

I've been using a different ring flash with a polarizer I designed in cad but I noticed the flash only seems effective using the ETTL function, any reason why they could be? Manual seems to illuminate everything, even the duvytene

I don't understand this. Why isn't there just a marker that the software knows, which scale this marker have and that's always like that, so it simply scales your scene units by that marker and nothing else? When the marker is captured and in preknown by the software, why do i have to tell it what it is?
@lipsach

Good technique. The issue I see here is that you probably can't turn the scanned object sideways to photograph the bottom of it, cos the dust particles would probably move touching it during the proces.

Generally well done but you left out one particular solution "noise pattern projection" simply speaking you use a DLP projection and project a grainy irregular pattern or the surface you want to scan. It does not always work like with the light bulb but it works on some surfaces. I really would like to see how this method helps generating more feature points. The biggest advantage is there is no cleanup and no altering of the surface whatsoever.

Dude.. This is really fascinating stuff! At first i was like... huuuuuuh?! I mean it makes sense what you're saying but I'm just trying to pile this info on to all the other things I need to know and do to improve..and as simple as these apriltags seem to be when I first saw being used... I had no idea how much information such an apparently simple little thing could contain! I hope you come out with your part 2 and as many other parts you care to produce sharing you knowledge and expertise. How can we go about creating these tags? Also.. I do hope the personal struggles that got in way of your creation have subsided and everything is well again! If not.. I'd encourage you to still try to create if it's something you really love. I think all if not most creators can relate on some level.. we just need to lift each other up and show our support! :)

I've been known to put random dots on with a dry erase marker so it will easily wipe off and if they're small enough they can be easily removed from the texture in Photoshop.
