@@ErikChristensensScanSpace Awesome! I Can't wait to see the next video! You make awesome content. I saw that you recommend powder contrast spray for glossy surfaces, but what do you think about scanning human teeth (either in the mouth and/or out of the mouth like removable plastic dentures), where spraying powder isn't the easiest or safest thing to do? I have tried but only had mixed results at best, but I haven't yet perfectly replicated your polarized light and black background protocols here. Thank you so much for your insights!
@Relatablename
@Relatablename 2 жыл бұрын
@@dr.andrewc.johnson652 I'm sure you've already figured it out by now but in my opinion the mouth would move around a lot and the camera angles are too restricted for normal photogrammetry. I have seen some dentists 3D scan teeth but I think they use specialised intraoral scanners instead. This tech is great for prosthetics though as denonstrated by Unlimited Tomorrow.

Hi Erik, I’m making a game on unreal and I’m getting inconsistent results mostly based on the dark edges and reality capture thinking that those edges are voids. Even when multiple angles show that it shouldn’t be. I also have alignment issues when I turn the object just like I would if it wasn’t shot in a void. I’m using a canon RP with a tamron 24-70mm cross polarized ring flash and circular polarizer. I use Lightroom to take out all the black and try to use contrast and black and white levels to eliminate the ring/edge of darkness furthest from flash but I get inconsistent results. Thank you for any advice you can offer!

Before I go and make my own setup, are there any glaring limitations? How does this affect metals or similarly shiny surfaces? I'm guessing that I'll only end up with the diffuse but if the material isn't diffuse enough, it'll just turn black. Am I well served with this setup for something like scuffed metal where there's almost no mirror reflection to it or would it be better to get some kind of dulling spray to solve that issue?
@ErikChristensensScanSpace
@ErikChristensensScanSpace 3 жыл бұрын
Give it a shot, you will have mixed results with very shiny objects, but it is workable as long as the material isn't too uniform. As you say, scuffed metal works very well. This is an example of a really good scan coming from this setup that is chrome steel www.artstation.com/artwork/L2LAQk

Do I just batch process them once more to ensure they aren’t there when going into something like Metashape?

Because RAW images are the unprocessed versions of your images, they can bring out details which aren't seen otherwise where it is clipped by image processing. Your two options would be to use the JPGs from your camera or process the Raws after the fact. Otherwise your photogrammetry software might pickup on the background texture and ruin your alignment.
