Good review. Note this: some batteries, depending on the capacity and condition, will take up to 48 hours in the maintenance mode, to fully reach 100%. The single green LED will pulse until the DC voltage reaches 15.5 DC. (FACT CHECK THAT) Then the LED will turn solid Green. This is not stated in the directions, but NOCO tech support will "school" you if you are having trouble. I recharged up a standard 585 CCA lead acid battery. It took around 36 hours before the Green light turned solid. To convert the CCA to Ah, multiply the CCA rating by .7 (.725 to be precise.) I have used NOCO products for a few years now. This Genius 10 is a fine unit.

Very good video. Very informative and clearly explained. One thing you could add is the different ways the 4 charging lights(red red orange and green) behave in different scenarios relating to the charging process. I’ve noticed with the batteries I’ve been charging over the last few days that the solid green is really the only one that signifies that a battery is actually fully charged, would this be correct?

@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc
@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can connect this charger to a pair of 12V batteries wired un in parallel without an issue. You can place the charger clamps on the posts of the very first battery. You would split the clamps between the two batteries if they were wired up in series, no need to do this in parallel as the charge will flow from the first to the second without an issue.

Thanks for all the explanations. Can repair mode be used on an AGM battery? I keep getting Battery Not Hold Charge error. Should I try the Repair mode? Thx.
@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc
@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc 3 жыл бұрын
If you keep getting the No Hold Charge error then you have nothing to lose by trying the repair mode. If it errors out in the repair mode then your looking at more than just capacity loss as an issue with the battery. I always recommend the repair mode be used only necessary with AGM series batteries. The reason being is that the repair mode can cause gassing in the battery and as you know with a sealed AGM series - you can't replace that lost water.
@doctorwanchai1
@doctorwanchai1 3 жыл бұрын
The pros of this new model year are every all car and bike battery types chargeable, the cons is the NOCO connectors is very hot the result is charging voltage is lower than described for example the charging voltage for AMG battery is only 14.1 Volts lower than 14.7 Volts as described. This is the event that I had monitored to charging voltage graph . I had replaced the connectors with Anderson power pole connectors and charging cables with the thicker cables.

@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc

The trickle charge mode is built into the last stage of all the charging programs on the charger. All that you would have to do is select the correct charge mode for your battery and then leave the charger to do its thing. Once the battery is fully charged it will then go into its float maintenance mode.

I just bought one of these as I have a deeply discharged battery and I wanted a charger with the force mode. To begin with however I just wanted to charge a standard 12v car battery. When I plugged it in I expected a steady progression through the charge level indicators from one red block through to the full bar (two reds, an orange and a green). What actually happens is the first red blinks for a while, then the first goes solid and the second blinks a coup,e of times then it goes down to no lights then, after a while it goes up to the Amber for one pulse then back to nothing. It doesn’t seem to progress through the bars but seems to be going up and back down? Is it charging? Is the battery OK? Why don’t the instructions tell you what to expect and what the changing lights mean?
@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc
@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc 4 жыл бұрын
Leave it connected, it sounds like you have an issue with your battery - possibly that it's not retaining the charge. The charger will error out if the battery is not recoverable.

Hi,I’ve just used this device to recharge a new deep cycle marine battery, which I bought a couple of months ago, but haven’t yet put into use. @HighTechBatterySolutionsInc

Deep cycle batteries will lose a % of their charge every day when sitting idle, so depending on how long it sat it's certainly possible. Since the battery is so new I would not worry about using the repair mode. This is for batteries that are on the older side and heavily sulfated.

When charging a 12 V battery do I always have to select “repair” mode when I start charging (or does routine charging begin after simply selecting “type” of battery)? Is “repair” mode ONLY selected when reconditioning a battery is necessary?

You would only select repair mode if you know the battery is sulfated. When you're going to charge a 12V battery you would start by selecting the proper battery type - you do not have to select repair mode to begin charging any battery.

The pictures in the manual suggest when it's at full charge, the first 3 orange lights are off. Is that correct? I've been charging my 12V 60Ah car battery since last night and 12+ hours later, I'm looking at 3 solid orange and pulsing green. Let me start by saying I'm trying to learn a bit here. What would have happened if you stayed in 6V? As for the repair mode, is there an indicator on the NOCO that tells you repair is needed or do you just set it and see if it goes into repair mode?

If you were to put the charger in the 6V mode on a 12V battery it would error out letting you know that the voltage selected is incorrect. As for the repair mode there is no indicator on the charger that says its time to hit the repair mode. You will have to make that call based on the situation - for example if the battery was sitting discharged for a long period of time, or if you notice an overall lack in capacity of the battery and want to try to recover it.

Nice review. What voltage does the charger allow the battery to drop to before it kicks in and starts charging again? I had mine get my battery up to about 14V and when I checked on it a couple of weeks later it had dropped to 12.5(ish)V and the green light was solid, indicating full charge still. I switched the charger off and on again and it started the charging process and had the battery back up to 13V in a few minutes. Is there an issue? Battery only a few months old. Thanks.

I ran your question by NOCO, here is their official response: It sounds like the battery may not be holding a good resting voltage, and the charger may be timing out. The maintenance trickle charge should start when the voltage drops below 12.7V, and the LED should be pulsing green. If the battery is not holding a good resting voltage, the charger will timeout and stop applying the charge to prevent overcharging the battery. If the voltage drops below 12.4V the charger will start the full charge over.

Before plugging in the A.C. plug, put on the battery clamps. Then plug in the A.C. Put the unit into the Repair mode. The red LED will flash on and off. for around 4 hours and then the unit automatically switches out of the Repair mode. However, if the battery is too badly damaged, the Repair mode will end early. Not all batteries can be "Repaired".

Informative review. You mentioned the Genius 10 is the successor to the 7200 line. How would you rate the Genius 10 in comparison to the Genius 7200 ? Which is the superior product ?
@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc
@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc 3 жыл бұрын
The GENIUS10 is certainly a step above the G7200 in terms of charging modes and power output. The charger has battery diagnostics right on the faceplate and low voltage detection down to 1V (used to be 4V) which we see as a huge plus. The only thing that was a bummer for us is that the G7200 was capable of charging both 12/24V batteries - the GENIUS10 series stepped that down to 6V/12V. Very few people would actually need the 24V mode which is why they dropped it from the model but there was a small market for it that we had to shift to a more expensive model.

The GENIUS10 unit will only hit the battery with the full 10 amp charge in the bulk charge mode. This is in the 25% up to the 75% charge level indicated on the charger. After that it begins stepping the charge rate down as the battery gets closer to 100% fully charged. In the maintenance mode your right around an amp on the battery.

Question. I have a 6 volt battery in a positive ground car (ground cable on positive post to engine block and starter cable to negative post). When charging with this charger - I would still hook up clamps neg-neg and pos-pos right? Is it even necessary to remove car cables off battery before I hook up this trickle charger? Just don’t want to damage anything such as starter or battery.

You are correct, you're still going to be connecting the charger positive to positive and negative to negative. You will want to connect the charger directly to the terminals of the battery, and there is no need to disconnect the battery from the vehicle during charging.

I have a fiamm batt that have not intensive used at all prior and has been sitting around untouch for 6Years. I’ve recovered to 12v but after using it for a few connections with a dc ac pure Snr wave inverter, it went below 9v. I did not recharge it for a while but when I tried, it was not able to charge up normally. No obvious bloating but now I can’t bring it back to life. Now it reads 0-1v. I’m contemplating to buy NocoG10. Will it able to force it back to 12v even without refreshing it with Epsom salt?

The recondition mode of the GENIUS10 will be able to recover a portion of the capacity of the battery however 6 years untouched is a very long time. If the plates have physically deteriorated then even attempting to refresh the battery would not yield any results as the total active surface area available to produce energy has been permanently reduced.

We use repair mode for batteries that are having issues maintaining a fully charged state (voltage drop with no draw), low CCA output, or capacity loss. I will typically engage the repair mode on a battery experiencing one of the above after completing a charge cycle on the charger. The repair mode will work on desulfation of the battery.

I have three marine 12V AGM batteries that are now showing only 8V due to long-term storage without a charger. I have an onboard charging system but it doesn't charge due to the low voltage. Two of the batteries are connected in parallel. Can I charge both batteries at once with the Noco charger, or do I have to disconnect them first? What are the odds that I actually can charge these batteries up to at least 10-11 volts so that my on-board system can take over the rest of the charging? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Yes, you can charge up both of these batteries in parallel without an issue. @HighTechBatterySolutionsInc
@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc Жыл бұрын
Depends on the battery, all I can do is tell you what we do at the shop. If the charger is not able to detect the battery out of the gate we switch the GENIUS10 to the supply mode and leave it connected to the battery for 30 minutes to an hour depending on the battery size. This will throw amperage into the battery regardless if its recoverable or not and raise the voltage level. Once the voltage has been raised from 0 then the charger should be able to properly engage on the AGM setting. Once the AGM setting runs through its charging process and the battery is fully charged we then switch the charger into the repair mode.

The GENIUS10 unit requires about 150 watts to operate and it will remember the last setting it was in, so if the charger loses power you will not have to re-select the correct charge setting as it will remember the last setting it was on.

You would be a LOT more efficient by installing a high output alternator and wiring your second battery into your truck as a second battery. I’d use an isolator. Look up wakesurfing boat forums on adding a second battery. It’s the same principle. They want their second battery to run a stereo for long periods, but save enough charge in the first battery to start the engine. This would be much more efficient and easier for you in the long run. You’re losing efficiency through that inverter.

You're right on the cusp, the GENIUS10 is rated up to 230AH but you can skate by with 232 on this unit. Now the 10ft extension cable will draw the voltage down a bit on the charger, so using two of them will increase your charge time.

Yes, it can be hooked up in either setup without an issue. As long as the voltage is either 6 or 12 then you are good to go!
