A lot has changed since 2020. Vilvoorde Center has undergone a huge change with many better and wider cycle paths. The F1 from Brussels to Antwerp has been completely constructed along the Zenne river in Vilvoorde for a year now and that is a major improvement compared to what can be seen on the video. The city of Mechelen has also invested a lot in better cycle paths.

Great to see these great improvements in Toronto. I like this shared bike idea. Is it for free? Have to say that completely disagree the wearing helmets. Cycling at that speed isn't dangerous. Cycling without a helmet gives you a better sense of freedom. And you look better too. Less sweaty. Without helmets, more people will join to ride bike.

It’s tragic when a life is lost, cycling or otherwise. There are times when drivers of vehicles are at fault but then there are times when the cyclists are at fault. I personally do both. I drive and i cycle. The traffic laws are in place for ALL who use our roads to follow, especially at stop signs, red lights and crosswalks. I can say with absolute certainty that cyclists blow by in these cases more often the other vehicles. There should be a permit attached to every bicycle with a plate, so that when the law is broken, they to should be accountable for breaking it and fined, just like all other vehicles.
@ILiketoRidemyBike
@ILiketoRidemyBike 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment but I'm afraid in this case it is very inappropriate. You are blaming the victims by saying cyclists break laws. In this case the woman was run over by a huge truck as it turned on to her and trapped her under the back wheels. She was breaking no laws and riding in a bike lane. Cycling advocates here have been trying to get mandatory bumpers put on big trucks to make this impossible but the government has stated that this is too expensive. We are paying in human lives instead. In fact two blocks from this location a 18 year old boy was also run over by a cement truck this past Wednesday the driver of the truck did not even notice they had done this. If Trucks had bumpers on the side it would not be possible for cyclists to be caught under their back wheels they would just be knocked over instead of run over. Even better would be to provide a space that is sage for cyclists away from truck and cars separated by a barrier. This is what is needed. It is bad cycling infrastructure that kills cyclists and pedestrians. I attend all of these memorial in Toronto and as far as I know the cyclist has never been breaking a law when they are killed. If you can show me a place that has adopted licensing for bicycles and this has improved safety I would be interested in seeing this as I have seen studies that this is a pointless and expensive exercise that discourages people from cycling.

I like your videos and your travel experiences. However, I think your experience with Google maps is a bit like mine in that it will take you either the long way or the sketchy way. In any case, in Antwerp there is a glimpse of two Hasidic Jewish men on the sidewalk. I thought that interesting.

Is that music made by you guys as a family? I love it! I'm rocking to it! we are ordering a tandem bike ... (you know that voice in your head going, "I will not buy another bike. I will not buy another bike. I will not buy another bike. I will not buy another bike!!!") --> welp, that didn't work. I love biking, my little one would only "love it" if we are on the "same" bike. We refuse to get on a single bike. So? As a great parent like myself, I have no choice but to buy a new toy for the both of us, no? buah ha ha ... (I say that because it's more like a toy for ME! lol) It is e-assist , and it folds, it is custom made in Eugene, OR (but you already know who I ordered it from! Bike Friday). Can't wait.

Boring boring. Next time go to France, people are not boring. They are normal people, they will help you if you have a problem, but they also can have a bad day. Like normal people. Denmark was the most boring country I have ever been.

Hi Albertus, Lisa died by suicide on December 26th 2019. This has been devastating for myself as well as my family. She was so fine and happy in this and the other videos we made. This video was a year before she got very sick with depression/anxiety. It is crazy how we can go from being so happy to such despair in a short period of time Unfortunately we could not find treatment that could help. The world needs to take much better care of the people who suffer from mental illness. Thank you for support of our videos over the years. Peace to you. Mike

@@ILiketoRidemyBike , Thanks Mike for your answer, we here were in a shock but ofcourse we are not aware what s in the mind of other people,., . how to cope with this for you and the boys ., as they say that life goes on, for myself I have this problem for a long long time after family issues and 2005 till 2007 the battle against cancer ., it s hard to find help because in the end it s only yourself to beat the monsters in your head., when I was younger I started to run to feel better, now I take the bycicle and go out for a bike round. I hope you find peace and stay in a good health to cope without Lisa and that is hard, she was beautiful and extremely kind and down to earth also, she will be missed , RIP Lisa,.

Copenhagen is great, but the ones who called it the best cycling city in the world, were they themselves, Honestly, from the cities in the Netherlands that I have seen, and also statistically the numbers of cyclists are at an even higher level. And the infrastructure in Amsterdam is already better than Copenhagen (also see the video made about this by 'Not Just Bikes') And Amsterdam is by far not even the best city in the Netherlands in terms of infrastructure.

Ooh the part at 9:05, I had to cycle that route from Middelburg to Vlissingen everyday to get to school. It was notorious for always having to bike against the wind. In the morning you got the wind in your face, and at the end of the day when school was done, it would've turned 180 degrees D:

That seems a little silly... I mean, it's a kind gesture to give away your fictional bikes, but wouldn't that friend be better off just receiving the amount in dollars it would take to replace them and buying something that actually fits his or her needs? Or, given the exchange rates, ten things he or she needs?

@@aramisgonzalez654 I'm not denying that bikes are useful :-) But they might want a cargo bike to sell stuff with, or a riksha, or a single person bike - or something other than a bike, even though bikes are useful. "and we are besides this noisy highway for a while`". I noticed that quite a few times in your videos. We are Dutch cycle to our holiday destination by bike every summer. We hate cycling close to highways. Don't know what you use for routeplanning bit there are ways to avoid it. Google will use the major roads, which is usually not good. The fietsersbond (Dutch cyling association) has a routeplanner on its website which gives you a lot of options for your route like "easy cycling" "scenic" "shortest" "recreational" "races routes" "low on cars". see routeplanner.fietsersbond.nl Or use a Garmin cycling computer, which overlays the excellent Open Street Maps with a heatmap of routes that are popular with cyclist, automatically giving you the better option.
