Why not just use actual shiplap? It's not exactly expensive. Much less work. But I guess this is real cheap.
@KatharticStudios21 күн бұрын
Hey! Yes it's cheaper but it's also much "thinner". To do vertical shiplap the real way you need to make horizontal bracing to attach it to. If we screwed that into our studs, then put the shiplap on top, we'd lose at least an inch depth on every wall, which means our outlets would have to get extended, window and door casings redone, etc etc. 🫤 I love real shiplap, but with the budget for this room it just wasn't going to happen.
@Gubers21 күн бұрын
@@KatharticStudios What does shiplap have to do with that though? Shiplap or not, you still need to attach the vertical boards to something. Shiplap would actually be more stable without furring strips because of the overlap, actually. I know exactly what you mean by losing space. I just finished installing a vertical shiplap accent wall. I used furring strips like you said. Honestly, I can't really tell the difference by losing an inch of depth.

Absolutely beautiful! Do you have to apply top varnish? Great DIY!
@KatharticStudios3 ай бұрын
Thank you! I did not apply anything as I don't really touch these (hence they don't need protection) and I wanted to keep the finish shine-free.

Nice! Going to make myself one. What size screws did you use so you didn’t go through the 1x6?
@KatharticStudios6 ай бұрын
They were super short! Maybe a quarter inch? You can also cut or grind the excess off the back if the screws you have are too long and you have a good tool for that.

Why didnt you paint the vases with a primer first?
@KatharticStudios8 ай бұрын
My vases are not "handled" at all so the risk of chips, dings, or wear is really low. If I were painting something I plan to touch more, a primer would be better, especially one designed for adhering to glass. But for this it didn't seem necessary.

I’m anxious to see your finished kitchen after all the projects you listed… motivate me to get back to my renovation from hell. lol

As for the bottom, we actually just finished them in April. Almost a year and half later 😅😅😅 nobody ever said DIY was quick or easy. Now it's just finishing touches with faucets and lights and all that for me! Good luck with your reno!!! You can do it!!!!!
