I adore this song!!! The melody/chorus gets stuck in my head! I live in South East New Brunswick, Canada. Last year our little family traveled to Montréal Québec to see The Halo Effect, and it was glorious! This October we are traveling to see DT/Amorphis at the same venue. I cannot wait! I have been listening to DT since 1999 and have never seen them, so this is a dream come true :)

Personally, the countless live performances of Aurora we can find here on YT are the reason why I'm not sure that metal is still the genre I, by far, listen to the most (but I still enjoy and listen). Especially her stripped and acoustic performances, which have taken a more and more prominent place in my listening time. Live she really has something... even if its form has changed as time goes. In my country, where Gojira is from, we don't really hear about her in medias, and that's a bit saddening. But whatever. As long as she still has her head on her shoulders, "ça ira!"... Several monthes ago, you did a reaction video of "Some type of skin". Here is an acoustic version, which you should privately check out on occasion if you don't know it yet: AURORA - Some Type of Skin (Live Performance) | Vevo: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nrmUnMh1xsrLfWw.html And just in case...🙂 if one day you don't know what to react to (I know, "wishfull thinking"😀)... there's also "A soul with no king", filmed the same day in the same venue and set up: AURORA - A Soul With No King (Live Performance) | Vevo: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qZ9locdqm5a8o40.html But hey, there're so many good artists traveling this world and playing good music... (still, such a singing little Giant, it's so rare...🙃). In any case, keep going your own path.🙂👍

You missed one band, Mikael is also the lead vocalist for Grand Cadaver 🙂. I think it’s more like a hobby project, they have released two albums and two EP:s in four years but don’t play live very often. I have been trying to listen more to new, smaller, local bands lately and there are so many talanted new bands but it’s so much melodeath 😱. I love melodeath but I think it’s a bit confusing that so many younger bands try to sound like something their parents would have listened to 20 years ago 🤷‍♂️

Today seems to be the day of the growling Mikaels for me. I started my day with the new Opeth, and now I'm listening to this for the first time. How weird is it, exactly, that I like Mikael Stanne's clean singing so much more than his harsh vocals? And the harsh vocals are amazing, don't get me wrong, but there's something so touching in his clean voice. I'm curious for the new album - and very excited for the Cemetery Skyline album :D A ton of cool new stuff has dropped, are we going to get reactions or at least opinion on the songs from Arch Enemy or Jinjer?
@MattsMoshPit1
@MattsMoshPit1 3 күн бұрын
I agree 100% on the Mikaels. It’s funny I have tix to see Opeth in Oct, strictly for the name. I really have only heard a few songs and don’t really know if they are for me. I know they have a huge following so I want to see them live to see what it’s all about. As far as all of the big drops this week, I have saved them all to the top of my list. I will be recording my reactions tonight. I don’t think I can be anymore excited for the new Arch Enemy. I was hoping they would put out new stuff prior to my seeing them in London in October. I am really looking forward to recording tonight. BTW I just found the band Assemble the Chariots. They just put out their first full length album a few weeks ago and I can’t get enough of it. It is extremely cinematic in a Rotting Christ kind of way. It’s also a mix of deathcore, melodeath, symphonic and even a little power metal. It’s a fun album. I would be interested in your thoughts of them.

@@MattsMoshPit1I have heard one of their songs (it was called Empress I think?) and I did not like it much, but I'm willing to listen to more. Do you think I should just listen to the album from the beginning or is there a song that's a must hear on it? Opeth I'm not a huge fan of either, just because I haven't listened to a ton, but Ghost of Perdition is a killer song. I've been waiting for the right mood to get into their legendary albums, like Still Life, Blackwater Park, etc, I have them saved on Spotify, so let's see. I'm curious how you'll experience them live. Their guitarist Fredrik Åkesson wrote one of the pieces for the Bright&Black album btw.

With Assemble the chariots, I would start with the first song on the album, as it’s a whole experience. If you only have time for one song, I would suggest. Ephemeral Stream, it seems to be the most diverse song. I just find the whole album to be interesting and fun. As far as Opeth goes, it will be an experience no matter what. It’s at the Warner theater in Washington DC. The same theater that I am seeing Apocalyptica at. It should be fun.

Your pronunciation of Simone's name is about as close as any of us Americans can get. Think you have to be Dutch to get it perfect. 😂 Pretty good song. Liked their collab, along with Myrkur, on EPICA's "Sirens of Blood and Water" more, but this is still good. When you say collaboration, the first name I think of is Lzzy Hale, she has done a ton of them. For Delain, with Charlotte, check out "Nothing Left" or "The Gathering, ( both Live) and both feat Marko. And with new singer Diana Leah, "Moth to a Flame"

Oh I know a really great small festival near me that I have been to once, it is in the fall so not too hot but it can be very rainy. It was also easy to be at the front like I saw the band before the one I wanted to see and was at the front for both bands. It is also pretty cheap so I could go there for one band, there is also a few indoor festivals that is near me but I have never went there. Anyways I rambled enough without actually revealing the name it is Baroeg open air it is in The Netherlands and it is organised by a rock café in Rotterdam. It is pretty small and usually has small Dutch bands haha but it was a great experience for me! I am going this year because Plan Nine is playing there and Charlotte Wessels so you know. It is half electronic festival too which is very funny to see like half the crowd is just dressed in black and then you have these splotches of colour.

You did it the first time! That was really close! But if you feel like you're still struggling with her name, you can use her nickname Smoon :D Should be easier to pronounce. And as for the song, I maybe expected more. The video is super fun, I like the lyrics a lot, both ladies work great together and the operatic style backing vocals are awesome, but it somehow feels like a demo to me. Idk, I have a slight problem with the whole production/mix/sound thing on this Charlotte's upcoming record.

Europeans quickly come into contact with foreign languages and also hear words in a foreign language in the news. They are also more likely to travel to countries with a different language. This gives them a better feel for the language. The Romance/Germanic mix of English offers a good basis for being able to pronounce many languages, but neither English nor Americans can use this. With Simone, I have given up on how to pronounce her. She pronounces it differently herself. She doesn't seem to attach much importance to it. The metal scene is not big, within the subgenres there are even fewer and people keep meeting at the many metal festivals. This creates personal contacts and the short distances in Europe make it easy to work together (the USA has 34 inhabitants/km², the EU 109. The density is higher in Western Europe and that is where most metal bands are. The EU is like the west and east coast of the USA, without the states in between). Freedom of travel and living within the EU allows this cross-border collaboration. English is the language in which they communicate. If you have a talent for languages, you will also learn the languages of the countries you often visit. Many people will be able to speak a little German because many concerts take place there and important record labels are based there too.

That makes a lot of sense. Another comment mentioned that as Americans, we have a better sense of Spanish, because we are closer to those Spanish speaking countries. I can say that I can pronounce most Spanish names, I guess that might be part of it. Thank you as always my friend for your insight

I expected so much more from this song, I guess I ruined it for myself. It feels like it's building up to something, and the something never comes. Sweet bass tone though. I agree with your thoughts on competition, I see it happening a lot these days, too. One pop artist or rapper is pitted against another, and I stumble upon rather psychotic twitter exchanges on Reddit about artist X vs artist Y, and most of the time I'm just completely out of the loop (I don't want to be a metal elitist, I just really have no idea about pop music and there are tons of singers who sound the same so I confuse them). Guess it's a PR thing to generate attention for them, but why not just let their music talk by itself... I haven't seen it in the rock and metal scene in North America, but collaborations, features and generally helping each other is pretty normal. A great example is one of my top 3 bands, Amorphis, who recruited their current singer Tomi Jousen almost 20 years ago. Dude has said in interviews that growling was no problem for him, but clean singing was difficult, so Amorphis got none other than Marko Hietala to mentor him. So Marko has producer credits for the vocals on like 4 Amorphis albums, I think, and has done backing vocals for them. Just artists helping each other out. Of course I hope they paid him, but my point still stands :D
@MattsMoshPit1
@MattsMoshPit1 7 күн бұрын
In America we do have collaborations, but it’s not as prevalent. Our collaborations are typically two completely different bands doing a collaboration. You rarely see two people in the same genre collaborating.There is definitely way more competition on the pop side of things. I definitely need to check out Amorphis. I did do one reaction to them, but I didn’t post it, because I don’t think I gave them a fair assessment. It was a release for their live album that just came out. I expected to see the crowd or even hear crowd noise, but it wasn’t there. It felt like Covid, when bands would perform streamed shows without the audience. I liked the song, but the video felt awkward to me. I definitely need to check them out again.

@@MattsMoshPit1 Oh they actually recorded this live album and their previous one during covid, I think in June or July 2021. I'd be curious to see the reaction, but if you want live material from them with audience and good sound, there's the Forging the Land of Thousand Lakes live album, from 2011. "My Kantele" is a great song, probably my favourite Amorphis song. Otherwise, "The Moon" or "Silver Bride" are good music videos to check out, you can actually hear Marko H in the second one.

Nah, you're (Americans that is) just...well. weirdly not good with Germanic Languages, like Dutch, German, all the Scandinavian languages... , probably *because* 2/3 of the vocabulary is similar so it automatically can be read but *sounds* different spoken - but hey, US Americans are very much better than most of Europe with Spanish, I e.g. can *read* most of Spanish operating from my (classical, i.e. from the Principate, that's Tacitus, Caesar, Augustus and the lot) Latin knowledge but you much more likely actually *hear* it spoken in the Mexican dialect. In other, less academically inclined but much more fun matters - the cooperation you mentioned is awesome in the European metal scene(s), I sometimes feel that Charlotte Wessels and Melissa Bonny have to be the queens of coops - I encounter them all the time in all kinds of projects, sometimes overlapping, and Feuerschwanz and Lord of the Lost maybe the *bands* in this regards... but that's probably just my limited horizon. I think this is based on the fact that a lot of those bands and singers are in the EU, and we have "Schengen" (and that's includes some non-EU countries) - meaning open borders with no further limits or checks and the freedom to reside and work anywhere in the Union... so that makes cooperation almost laughably easy, more like cooperating with a band that's a town over - but that's just my theory.🤫 Btw.: did you see Gojira in the opening ceremony if the Olympic games? If not, check it out, it was...*very* metal🤘... Best regards Raoul G. Kunz

Thank you for providing the understanding on my lack of pronunciation. It does make a lot of sense. I hear Spanish all the time. In our schools the main languages to electively learn are Spanish, French and German. I would say that the vast majority of American students take Spanish (because they say it’s easier). I took 4 years of Spanish including college and I still can’t speak it. I can understand a little, but I would definitely be able to pronounce Spanish names much better. As far as Gojira goes, I loved that performance. It was great for them. I am shocked but so many people over here are asking who that band is. So they have definitely moved to the next level with that performance. I am happy for them and this genre of music. Thank you for writing in my friend.

Oh crap!, Pardon me, I just realized I *know* "Herz an Herz", which I didn't remember just reading the title... this was... the 90s, or more precise the early 90s... before finding "Blind Guardian" and going down the metallic road... this hits weirdly for a German of my generation, a mix of fondness and shame🤣 ah well... techno-influenced (I almost wrote "tekkno"...) Euro Dance was... a thing.😅 And of course I knew the Roxette cover and I know Blümchen but I didn't know how bloody earwormy her stuff actually was that it still kicks in recognition 30 wears later... - much like Roxette, but that's closer to my usual fare.😉 If you'd like to get a full dose of 90s pop-look, do yourself a favour and have a look at the music video of "The Look" - Lord of the Lost version of course. I didn't even know about this band two months ago. I liked their songs, and I don't mind their pirate-themed universe. it's 100% you lol 🤩. It's unfortunate that you focus so much on the hat rather than the music, the lyrics, all the work done by the band. They are now a symphonic metal band in a fantasy pirate universe. You should go to one of their concerts or watch KZfaq videos of their live performances and see that this universe fits very well with the band and what they want to do. They make us forget our daily lives for the duration of a concert and take us on a journey. Maybe if I give you this perspective, you'll see things differently. It's like i just see your cap and don't hear what you have to say. What it's important it's you, your opinions and not the cap that you wear. Don't take it the wrong way, but maybe you'll see things differently. If not, it's okay. 9:18 😂 good luck for "I'll have to work through it".

KZfaq withheld a video from me despite the bell. That's why it's so late. Visions of Atlantis are Hollywood pirates. That fits well with the music. They have nothing to do with real pirates or pirate culture. Clementine is to blame for the hats. They started afresh with the first Pirates album and Clemi said: We have a band name that has something to do with the sea and we are rebels as metalheads. We are pirates! Clemi also writes the scripts for the videos and the lyrics. She decides which pirates you see and hear. Invite her to an interview and talk her out of it with the hats ;-)

@@MattsMoshPit1 If KZfaq can't put ads in your videos, then it won't suggest the videos to anyone. The usual thing applies: distort the image, put semi-transparent text over it, file an objection and don't publish it until the objection has been granted.

I do file objections, but honestly pretty much everything Napalm records gets rejected right away. It doesn’t help that most of the bands on this channel are Napalm. The other big labels do it as well, very few share or let you get away with it. Good thing, I am not relying on this as income 🤪

Really cool video, and I recognise a few things I've bullied you into checking out, so thanks for tolerating these 😅 it's good to know someone else likes the music. I think general music talk might be a good idea for future content. Like a dive into why European and North American music market is so different, viewed through a rock and metal lense (all the bands you highlighted here are European). Or non metal artists we like as metalheads, that's always an interesting one. I will admit immediately to liking ABBA, everything involving Azam Ali and also Florence + The Machine. In addition to classical music, but you know I consider that to be super metal. So far I have discovered cool things on this particular channel myself (just got the new Orden Ogan album today), but the most practically important information was about the proper way to display autographs. I was able to put it to use last month, it was actually very funny, but my comment is long enough already.

Thank you for your comments. I had a ton of fun making this. You are now giving me the confidence to do more “non reaction” videos. It would help in the fight with the copyright gods. I am glad you got to see your influence on the channel. You know I trust your opinion and check out everything you suggest. I definitely want to hear more about the autograph situation. I don’t know that you should use me as an example. My wife made the mistake of letting me design the rooms in my house and just about every room is themed (music, movies, sports,etc.) and framed autographs for all of the above. I love it! It’s like my house is a museum for me, but I understand it’s not for everyone.
@nuclear.musicaddict
@nuclear.musicaddict 9 күн бұрын
@@MattsMoshPit1 Haha it actually sounds cool, like the rooms have their own character. In our flat only I take care of this, my husband doesn't really care, so it's mostly my own photographs and some artwork I've found randomly or have been gifted. Last month I got my hands on a signed Apocalyptica poster and decided to put it up, found a heavily discounted solid wood frame with UV proof glass online and ordered it. The thing came with a few fractures, thankfully only on the wood, so I was able to repair it, did a new coat of paint and framed the poster. That gave me two cuts on my fingers, probably from the glass. Then I had to move everything from my desk and from under my desk to be able to get up and hang the frame there. My huge and heavy monitor gave me bruises when I was moving it. Then I had to unplug my bass amp that's under my desk, and the plug hit my hand and gave me a shock. All in all something that should have been simple turned into Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the frames. I'm surprised I didn't hit my fingers with the hammer, the way I was going 😂 but now it's up and it looks awesome! My husband took a week to notice it (one reason why I take care of art and decorations), and then another week to notice that it's signed. Oh well. I'm still taking him with me to see them again in October.
@MattsMoshPit1
@MattsMoshPit1 9 күн бұрын
Wow, that is quite the ordeal. I pretty much buy cheap frames from Amazon. They do the job and easy to return if they aren’t right. It sounds like your husband and my wife could share stories about being dragged to shows. 90% of the time she has no idea who we are seeing. I have been to a few shows by myself because I don’t want her to be too miserable. I figure she is good with anything power metal, metalcore, and melodeath. Anything outside of that I need to go it alone.

@@MattsMoshPit1 Oh they'd have some stories to share 😂 I don't drag him to a ton, it's only been a few times and only to acts he likes or I suspect that he'd like. He always complains before and is always happy after. My CD and merch collection is another thing 😂

At some point the time for camping is over. The aches and pains prevent that. Wacken has various "luxury" variants. There are set up tents, including electricity, a flush toilet outside, a bed and a real mattress (Residenz Evil). From equipped containers to small log cabins (Moshtel). There are also travel partners who offer a regular hotel room outside of Wacken with the ticket and take you to to the hotel with a shuttle bus. You can also travel to special places with a camper van. But you have to be quick or keep an eye on the official exchange. But none of this guarantees you a place in the front row. You have to take care of the standing space in front of the stage yourself and be there on time. And there is an additional program on and around the festival grounds. Download in the UK offers something similar. I didn't see anything similar at Hellfest, but maybe they also have a hotel/festival combination there. Europe is a bit further north than the USA. Wacken is about the same latitude as Edmonton in Canada. The temperatures are similar in summer, and warmer in winter. The few hot days can be bridged with energy-saving technology. But because of climate change, these hot days are becoming more and more concentrated. It takes longer than before for cool days to appear in between. But not in the current summer, which is cool. Roxette come from Sweden. Before the Swedish bands appeared in the USA, they shook up Europe. Everyone in Europe has heard the song too. The song by Blümchen at the beginning was their biggest hit: Blümchen - Herz an Herz (Official Video) The complete lyrics in English. Lyrics like these are the reason why you shouldn't always ask for a translation. Not knowing makes the song better: Heart to heart, can you hear me S.O.S. I love you Me and you always You and me Heart to heart, day and night Always thinking about it Are you as in love as I am?

Blümchen, her real name is Jasmin Wagner, is like Lord of the Lost from Hamburg. She was famous in germany in the 90s with the genres "Eurodance" and "Happy Hardcore". The name "Blümchen" is a belittlement of "Blume" what means "flower". "Herz an Herz" was one of her most famous songs what means "heart to heart" within the meaning of "close to your heart". 🙂 Since the 2000s she had some singles under her real name "Jasmin Wagner", but now in the meanwhile she mainly works as an actress and moderator.

And bringing Blümchen to Wacken is a thing that is a bit crazy, but the LOTL kind of crazy. This song, I love it and I also know the lyrics. One time, long ago, a friend of mine pressured me into singing it at a karaoke bar with her, and I managed to botch it despite knowing the lyrics - turns out I'm a shit singer, so thank you Roxette for helping me accept that 😂

You will have a blast on your LOTL show! They are fire and they are looking forward to playing the US and Canada shows. Trust me. I'll have to wait until December for the next concert when they do their annual "Lordfest" in Hamburg - on my 50th birthday this year. Lucky me having such a birthday party!!!😊 But the "Live at W.O.A. 2023" album is already ordered. Blümchen is a famous singer of the Eurodance time of the 90es/early 2000s. She started her career very young at the age of 15 or so. "Herz an Herz" is one of her biggest hits and she is a Roxette fan, too. Just as Chris. I think both LOTL and Blümchen enjoyed this collab a lot. Very different genres, but that is what the band is doing all the time - mixing genres for never getting bored or boring. At Wacken it is possible to book quite luxurious camping areas ("residenz evil" for example) on the site or holiday apartments or rooms not too far away. But you have to be fast (no more chance for WOA 2024 at all)...
