i have a Venus III DLX but it's massive and heavy. Do you find the II to be heavy to carry? it's 3.1kg as you say. I'm in the UK so it needs the groundsheet since it's always wet and can be very cold at night, even in summer. BTW, just two weeks ago I used my Venus III on a beach in a gale and it was fine.

Last November I hiked to the Pool of Memories from the ferry. 2 beautiful days, 3 nights and snow onthe last day as I packed up, and I didn't see another person for 44 hours.

Just came off a hike using the bags supplied with the Sawyer - they worked perfectly fine, no integrity issues….but really hard to fill and/or fill to capacity which necessitated in multiple refills.

Yes, one of the great things about this park. You can take your dog for a walk there! No bins there though so you need to carry out any poo bags with you.

@@FreedomOnFoot silicone tubing is cheap ... Just bought some from Ali Express for $2/m. Get some soapy water into the tubing and it'll slide onto the pot handles easy. I use 3mm internal diameter tubing.

Hey there - after some use, how do you feel about the max load out? I would love to use this pack, but with seven day carries and US Western long water carries will likely be pushing the bag to 35lbs (15.8kg). I know zPacks states this can handle to 40lb (18kg). What are your findings with use?
@addsy6396
@addsy6396 Жыл бұрын
I love my Altras but they are light, so anyone using them for hiking shouldn't expect to get a long lifespan out of them. They're not designed for that. Also, the zero drop, some first time users may need time for the calf muscles to adjust.

The greatest heavy hauling pack I’ve ever had. I’ve had the 75L/100L version of this model since the beginning of 2019... absolutely LOVE this pack. Love everything about it. No pack out there has the pockets and storage conveniences this one has. As for its weight, pfffft! This is a load hauling beast... which means it has to have its own backbone. I treat this thing well because there will likely never be another pack like this one again given where the market is taking modern pack design. Example: just take a look at the latest Cerro Torre.

Yeah, this one is built to last, that's for sure. I've dragged this through some pretty rough wilderness and it has stood up to everything it's had thrown at it. It's definitely a keeper. Glad to hear you love yours as well.

Thanks Crow! Yes, still love this tent and it has done really well for me on some big hikes. I still can't believe how light it is and how roomy it is for a one person tent. No regrets at all about buying the Altaplex. It's a great shelter. Hope you get yours soon!

I really liked this pack when I first got it (robic was the material I chose). Good weight, felt good with 25/30lbs (~12.5 kilos) seemed like a good fit for me. However, in less than 300 miles on the Arizona Trail it was starting to fail in various areas. The mesh on the back was tearing (different mesh and more fragile), broken clips, a broken mainstay, the strap systems on the side and top failed, the Robic material was cracking and was not waterproof, and finally with heavy loads? It just sucked... Anything above 25lbs (~11.5 kilos) was far too much weight to comfortably carry. I don't want to be a contrarian but for me and my environment that I backpack in? This is not a good pack. Their also quite expensive for for what they are. I have the Nero from zpacks too, I actually LOVE that pack. Feels good carries the recommended max load very well but unfortunately it's also suffering from the same problems as my arc haul... Poor construction and falling apart too quickly. Thanks for the video/thoughts/review.

Thanks for the honest feedback about your experience with it. I'll be interested to see how mine stands up over time but I definitely don't expect it to last as long as the other pack I have which is a fully-fledged expedition pack and will stand up to a real beating. The only downside being of course its weight. So far the Arc Haul is a dream to hike with and hope I'll get some decent mileage out of it.

@@FreedomOnFoot Yes! It checks all the boxes. It’s ultralight, made of durable material, will carry 40 lbs, is highly modular, has so many bells and whistles and is built to keep the back cool. My only complaint is that they use black rope that is at times hard to see. I used 1.8mm orange reflective rope and replaced the black rope myself though for $8.

Hi! I'm a tall hiker (6 feet 2) and have a backlength of about 20 inches. Is this pack too small for me? The papers say this pack is for backlengths of about 18 inches. Is this really that important considering you cant really fill it as heavy as a 65L pack?
@FreedomOnFoot

Best thing to do is go into a store and try some different packs on with some weight thrown into them. This one felt best for me out of a number I tried and also had all the features I was looking for.
