I wonder how doing a long tail knit cast on would change the edges.

I’m guessing it would work fine…that edge just wouldn’t match the other three. Try it and let us know!🙂

I love your beginning technique! Keeping your cast on on the needles then basting them. You keep the socks from sliding all over the cable making the beginning process so much easier. Your stitch markers holding the socks together in spots is fantastic! You've set up sock knitting for stress free beginnings. And your basting technique for cast on rows are applicable to knitting on one or two cable needles. All of your techniques pretty much nip laddering in the bud! I knit two pairs of socks long ago on magic loop with worsted weight yarn. Getting into sock knitting now and running into problems starting with fingering weight yarn. Time for a worsted weight practice pair on my 47" cable needles following your instructions. Including your crochet cast on. Now I'm excited again about knitting socks on a regular basis! Thank you so much!

I'm really thankful I saw this video! I have this very fuzzy yarn that I love the look and feel of, but it's impossible to see where the stitches are when crocheting and I can't crochet by feel. So I'm hopeful I'll be able to pair it with another yarn and that can help me out. My question is: I don't have a ball-winder and I don't really want to get one. You say I should twist the yarn before starting the project, ideally. How would I go about twisting them and ending up with the right length of material?
@iHeartYarn
@iHeartYarn 18 күн бұрын
I am so glad you found it helpful! Ball Winders are really useful tools, but winding the 2 yarns together into a ball by hand is a perfectly legitimate way to do it too. If one of your yarns has less yardage than the other, then you can stop, and either tie or Russian join them together before you continue winding. It’s not unusual to have to do that. Thanks for watching, and happy crocheting! 🙂❤️

Thank you for posting this video. In the book, some of the charts have the red square with other stiches falling outside of it (such as the duck, which is multiple of 16 + 1). Does this mean I treat the red box as a repeat until the final repeat of the row, then add the +1 and knit what's outside of the red box? Thanks in advance.
@iHeartYarn
@iHeartYarn 28 күн бұрын
You are most welcome - thank you for watching! Using the duck motif you mentioned as an example, the column of stitches that fall outside of the red box tend to be treated differently depending on whether or not you are working in the round or working flat. If working in the round, you can skip that column. If working flat, that column will end up being worked once and become your left edge. But do keep in mind that if you want more space between each repeat of the motif, you might consider 1) pretending that column falls inside the red line or if you want a larger gap 2) have that column represent "X" number of stitches inbetween mottif repeats. Hope that helps! 🙂

What do you suggest when doing a thumb on a glove? The red set? Which is smaller.
@iHeartYarn
@iHeartYarn Ай бұрын
Honestly, thumbs are so tiny, I would do either Magic Loop or Dpn's, whichever you are comfortable with. Even the tiniest diameter on the Shorts Combos will still be too big for a thumb. My personal preference is for Magic Loop (check out my videos on that technique if you aren't familiar with it.) Thank you so much for watching! 🙂

OMG THANK YOU.... thank you so, so, SO much!!! I just got my first yarn winder for my birthday. I love using it too, it's so much fun. But I'm making a temperature blanket with rayon and rayon/cotton blend. The blend comes already caked, but the rayon comes in skeins and the first time I used my winder it was an absolute MESS. I spent at least 30 minutes untangling and trying to wind it and thought I was doing something wrong, until I tried out 100% cotton skein and it wound up so smoothly and easy 😭 I have successfully hand-wound them into balls in the past, but it's so difficult to get the ball started without dropping it or it slipping apart, and it takes so long because of that. I haven't tried this trick yet but I can already tell it's going to make my life way easier in regards to my beloved soft, silky yarns ❤

I use my crochet hook for all my cast ons now, but ive been using the one you use in the provisional cast on, only diff being is instead of going between the needle & hook (which is how i did do it until i saw another way) now i go around both. Is there a reason i shouldn't be using this/provisional cast on as my main cast on for most things? Im an advanced crocheter but still a beginner knitter! Also, love ur vids, you explain things & show what ur doing very clearly, so a def sub from me & now im off to binge watch more of ur videos 😁
@iHeartYarn
@iHeartYarn 3 ай бұрын
If you like how that looks and feels for the edge of your project, then by all means keep doing it! I have never paid much attention to how stretchy the provisional cast on is (or isn’t?) so make sure you pay attention to that if stretch of the edge of your project is important. My only other concern is just making sure that your beginning and ending stitches are secure and cannot come unraveled. Thank you so much for watching my videos, it is deeply appreciated!

Are these socks saggy or do they hold up. ? How do I get the patterns for the socks
@iHeartYarn
@iHeartYarn 3 ай бұрын
Here is the link to the pattern: ravel.me/swirl-e-socks. I'm afraid I cannot yet personally attest to the longevity of the fabric and how it wears throughouot the day - I was a bad girl I didn't finish my lsocks yet. We haven't had any complaints about it at the shop from our regular sock knitters thus far, and I would think that (while it can't replicate the stiff fabric of a woolly wool) if your fabric is made at a tight enough guage to fit well, sagging shouldn't be too much of an issue. Saggy socks personally make me neurotically angry 🤣 so I already do everything I can to make my socks fit well like twisted rib in the cuff and ribbing through the instep to keep the foot tight as well.

I made a pair of DK socks on a SINGLE needle w/Magic Loop. It took a little finagling while doing the gussets/heels, AND I figured it out! So much easier than doing two separate socks! LOVE your crochet cast-on! Will give it a go and see how well I can do it. Never thought of doing a basting line for the socks. Another cool thing to do! Thanks for sharing the genius of your mind! I like that I also do continental knitting, so I can easily follow your instructions.
