I needed some inspo so decided to view this video again! You're the best! I'm trying to get a friend's daughter to try the Tunisian technique.

I taught myself Tunisian crochet watching Kim Guzman. I’ve made Tunisian items from blogs that link Kim Guzman’s YT stitch videos.

I love your enthusiasm. And wow, some of those examples are amazing, I didn't realise one could do things like that with Tunisian. That looks like a very useful book - when I first started doing Tunisian, I scoured KZfaq for tutorials on different stitches, things beyond just Simple Stitch and Knit Stitch - that looks like it would be a great resource. I think it's a misleading comparison when people say that "crochet uses more yarn than knitting" because it implies that the different textiles produced by these different techniques are equivalent to each other, when they are not. Ah well, I expect I'm tilting at windmills in regard to that.

The yardage differential is, in my opinion, more about awareness and planning than a form of criticism. For instance: a plain stockinette beanie and a plain single crocheted beanie made out of the same yarn and having the same approximate square inches of fabric will generally require extra yarn for the crocheted version. When yarn shopping I try to keep things like that in mind, becasue if I fall in love with a $70 skein of hand dyed mulberrry silk to make a shawl with, I'm probably going to knit with it to get maximum mileage out of one skein!

Thank you. Nice to see more about Tunisian crochet as I'm just starting to learn about this technique. But the background music was playing while you were speaking in some sections and was just too loud, detracting from what you were saying. It's clear that you are eager to share your passion about Tunisian crochet and I'd like to hear more from you and less of the music. Keep making videos.

Thank you for watching and thanks for the feedback on the music volume - I wish learning video editing was as easy as learning new knit or crochet stitches! 🤣 Welcome to my channel and I hope you enjoy the Tunisian!

@@iHeartYarn Seriously, you don't need any background music at all. Background music is really only useful if there is silence on the video (for example, if there's a section where you've speeded up the video and thus need to cut out the sound for that part).

I'm just starting Tunisian and was tickled that I had picked up that book somewhere along the way. I'll check out your other videos. A note for you: the music tends to drown out your voice, at least on this one.

It's a great little volume - awesome that you already had it on the shelf! I hope you enjoy the Tunisian and thanks for the feedback on the background music - my editing skills are still a serious work in progress!

Thanks for such a great video! I have made a few things in Tunisian and enjoy it, most recently the japandi shawl by exquisite crochet, she has some lovely patterns. Will give that book a try to learn some more stitches. Thanks again for preparing such a well-thought out and informative video for us!

You are most welcome - I'm glad you enjoyed it! That shawl looks like a very lovely and light layer to have around; you might look at Vashti Braha's designs too. has quite a few Tunisian Filet crochet designs and those have a much lighter look too. Thanks for watching and happy crocheting!

The one downside you *didn’t* mention is actually the main reason I can’t bring myself to make a project using Tunisian stitch. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the way Tunisian stitches look! But the biggest reason I never make anything with it, is because projects done in Tunisian stitch are only ONE-SIDED. I _wish_ I could make tunisian projects, but I’m so picky about things I make looking the same on both sides. Especially blankets, scarves, and shawls. As much as I love the way the front looks, I just can’t stand how the “wrong” side looks, and it would drive me nuts if the wrong side kept peeking out every time I moved, lol 😅 The only tunisian stitch I will do, though, is the Mesh stitch, because it’s open and lacy, so the back looks almost the same as the front. The only times I’m able to do _other_ Tunisian stitches is if I’m crocheting something “in the round”, where the wrong side won’t be seen.😉

Lol - everyone has "that thing" their brain just can't deal with! One of mine is stripes that don't line up; I'll go to almost any lengths to get bands of color to match at a seam! And yes, mesh fabrics are incredible - no ugly sides! (Pillows might be a fun project option since you'll never see the wrong side of fabric anyway right?) 😁 Btw - if you haven't seen her stuff, check out the Tunisian filet garments and accessories patterns from Vashti - I made her Minuet Vest for my mom and it turned out amazing! www.ravelry.com/designers/vashti-braha Thanks for watching! 💖

I completely agree with you. It is always disappointing to watch someone go on about their projects that look so lovely but they will not show both sides.

@@lindam2122 omg, that’s my BIGGEST pet peeve of stitch tutorials! Both tunisian *and* regular crocheting. The deciding factor of whether I’m going to do a certain stitch or not, is how the finished work will LOOK. And it drives me absolutely nuts when content creators finish the swatch and then _won’t_ show the BACK!

Fair enough! That's something that bugs me about knitting too. There are a few Tunisian stitches I know which do look just as good on the back and on the front, but there are not many of them. Another technique for making the back and front equivalent is the two-colour technique which uses a double-ended hook. You basically do one row in one colour, turn the work, slide the work to the other end, and do the next row with the other hook in the other colour. So you're alternating "front" and "back" and there is no "wrong side".
