First of all you won another subsrciber. Secondly, I am currently searching for ways to build a small boat I want to make and, among others, I like your approach too. Especially when it comes to materials used and, of course, their cost. Where I live your approach is the least expensive and that makes it more forgiving when, inevitably, mistakes are about to happen! Thank you for sharing this! Beautiful job!

Thanks for sharing your project and experience with us and giving us the opportunity to learn what it takes to follow our dream of having our dream cars and inspiring us to use our brains to figure out how we can build our rides. Also thank you for motivating me and starting a fire in my mind on how I could do the bulkhead layout but I don’t have a printer reminded me I have a projector so I could project the design from my copy of FreeCAD V20 ONTO the Masonite or sign board then trace it with a sharpie or go to Office Depot or Walmart or a UPS store and have them print it then spray adhesive it. I guess I could do it on vinyl on my Cricut. Maker. Or, I could insert a sharpie or a techno pen into the tool holder on my Cricut and let it draw the lines and instructions onto vinyl then cut it weed it then apply,y it to the boards. Sir, you have truly inspired and motivated us. Thank you. I have always wanted to build something but I had no idea on how to build a buck for metal forming or a plug for building a mold for composite materials. I only knew that they are almost the same thing. Again THANK YOU 😊😊😊. ONE QUESTION , How did you know how many boards to use to make the buck?

Exact values is difficult, in my case scale 1:43 means that if I measure 1mm wrong it will be 43mm wrong on the buck. I used a profile gauge over the scale modell, then take a photo of the profile gauge and import that into CAD, and even used a caliper

Do you have to have a cale model, to create mould unreal scale? Could you create mould by using geometrical parameters from, for example, car magazine with some drawings? Cool project.😮
@sonettengineering097 ай бұрын
Hi, yes you could use parameters from, for example, car magazine with some drawings, if you are good at it. But I don´t have that skill in using surface modeling. For me it was easier to use the scale model and a profile gauge to transfer it to CAD

I do have a few questions, if you don't mind. 1) When did you start the Sonett 1 project? 2) Are you keeping track of your hours spent on it? 3) Have you got a solution to the water pump? It will need to rotate in the original direction in order to efficiently pump coolant. Do you think you can still use a modified belt drive, or will you go to an electric pump? Thank you! B. Hansson in Sunny Southern California!

@GrayRaceCat Thanks for following. I started the project in Jan 2022 and I have spent about 250-300h on the buck and body and I guess about 300h so far on the chassis. Regarding the water pump, I am not there jet but I think I will go for an electric pump.

I like this project, I only watched the mould making part on Sunday.... The only thing I could pick with it.. Perhaps the front and rear flip parts could do with a bit more reinforcement... The easiest way to do that would be put them back in the buck, and add a layer of 3 mm honey comb membrane then glass over that with some 225 gsm bias weave. It's not much material but it would nearly double the stiffness of the parts. It would probably add about 15'kg's to the body weight.... All the steel work looks very functional and string enough, I hope your going to drive this far and often. As you have altered the wheel base, check the Arkerman angle on the steering arm. It's probably going to come in a bit long, and may cause a bit of understeer. There's plenty of videos on You tube to explain it properly and solve the issue...
@sonettengineering098 ай бұрын
Hi, Thanks for advise. I have plan for some reinforcement. I have not only alter the wheelbase I have turn the front 180° and yes the akerman angle will be bad, but the Saab original have the same solution, and they raced the car back in 1956-57, so I guess it will be allright
