Got mine ten days ago. Of course works fine just on FM, but i believe with some cleaning it'll go fine on SW also.

Hello, I just bought a radio just like this, it works well with the exception of the tuning knob, Ive noticed that sometimes, when I turn clockwise it won't tune up and just skips and stays and when I tune it counter clockwise it tunes down every time, no issues. Do you think it just needs a cleaning with some Deoxit or something like that? Thanks!!
@wu2u
@wu2u 3 ай бұрын
I don't think deoxit would work as this isn't a mechanical VFO. I think it is an optical encoder. The fact that it works in one direction but not the other. Before anything else I would try to shoot some compressed air into the encoder. Might be some debris interfering with the encoder.

@@wu2u Ok so I took of back and put some forced air to the optical encoder radio was very clean inside but did have one small cob web, before reassembly I tested with the AC power cord and worked good until I put it back together and powered it up with the batteries and it then had the same problem. These batteries were new unused Duracell and installed a few days ago, when I checked voltage just now they test out at 1.45 volts, then I tried it on AC again and it works as it should. For a test I put some fresh batteries in and yes it works as it should, Im guessing this radio for some reason is eating batteries way to soon and this is why the radio was malfunctioning.
@mikewestphal934
@mikewestphal934 2 ай бұрын
Well it's good that you have it working as it should, knowing now the encoder is not failing. That's really good. Also good you didn't spray the deoxit in there because I think you would have had damaged it. As for the batteries, it's possible you have a draw somewhere on the radio, but very likely that first set of batteries could have been weak even though new. At 1.4 v it shouldn't make a difference so you may want to look for a cold solder joint that is effecting the radio on battery power.

Great Refresher ! I have this radio and love it. It however is in need of a thorough going through. Only about half of any given band can receive, I need to find someone that will go through it with some TLC.

This guy actually tried to demonstrate ham radio SSB at a time of day that was the worst timer for this! You do that in the morning or at night. Very poor review because of this. Most users want to listen to ham frequencies., too

Different bands are open at different times of the day with 20 meters (14.307 USB) open mid morning through early evening. I think the radio shows the bands are open. Think about what you post first, maybe do some research. DE WU2U! Wu2u

What a beautiful and useful radio. So well thought out, and in the right hands can be repaired and used for many more years. When Perry Como came on I started to sing. I have a portable currently, but when my wife and I have a house I would want something along the lines of this radio.

Hello. Should the NOTCH and SHIFT control work in the AM band? My transceiver does not have the automatic frequency scanning function, what could be the cause of the malfunction?
@wu2u

Notch and will not work on AM. They are for SSB and ft o some degree CW. For the most part the shift should be centered for CW.

Ja, ein tolles Radio von Grundig. Wir benutzen den Satellit 2100 und 3000 heute noch täglich. Und es gab ja auch noch einen SSB Zusatz dazu. A super radio from Grundig. We have a Satellit 2100 and 3000 and use it daily. And there was also a SSB module for the Satellit. We present it in our channel m2counselling and in the next days also on SHE.

I like the look of the National Panasonic RF 600B.But I was told,this model was not tuned top dead center at factory.Meaning for an offical frequency eg... 8.867mgs USB (Aircraft), to get audiable speech you would need to tune way off the offical frequency.I owned the RF 49,far older model analoge ,with frequency counter.The BFO was so accurate,I didnt need to go off any frequency.

I am knobs&buttons guy and analog enthusiast. I have this line too, all three beauties and MD-1 mic. Also it is super easy to connect it with pc for digimodes. I had tons of other radios too, but FT-757 still standing and will last "forever", because all over the years this radio just proved its quality. My particular one had no need to repair since it was new. 35 years and the radio still runs like new! How long will last today's plastic menu-submenu touch-screen rigs?

Thanks for doing this! I bought my Panasonic RF-B600 new on October 10, 1985 from A.M. Jazey Furniture & Appliance Ltd. in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia for $790.00 CDN. Was a pilot at nearby CFB Greenwood Air Force Base on the CP140 Aurora back then; with cash in my pocket. The radio has literally seen daily use since that time and is rock solid reliable. Not bad for a 36 year old device. What can I say? They don’t build radios or airplanes like they use to.

Enjoy!! This is a really fun radio to operate and use. One piece of advise, if you plan on listening to SSB, turn the radio on a head of time for about a half hour so it stabilizes. When it's cold, it drifts quite a bit, but after warmed up becomes pretty stable for a non-PLL unit.

That's a great video, very informative with good demonstrations and a nice walk through on the radio itself. I remember reading the brochure when I was a young teenager and wanting one of these radios went to see one but was a bit disappointed. Maybe the one I went to see wasn't a great example. I found the recieve audio wasn't great and that it was unpleasant to listen too. Is this the case that they are not nice to listen too or was it maybe just the example and the guys set up that I went to see? How do you find your 757 to listen too? Thanks.
@wu2u
@wu2u 2 жыл бұрын
I think the audio is pretty good on this 757. Maybe your example was the original FT-757GX? This is the GX2 version. I'm not sure if there would be a difference as I have never tried the GX1. While audio isn't up to today's modern rigs, I find it very acceptable.

This is the biggest mod for this nice receiver: change R102 (56Ohm) for a 5kOhm resistance with a neon bulb parallel. That wil give you a much better signal in all bands.

Great little receiver. Mod number uno: get a good ground point. That wil sort out a lot of HF interference. I have made a three wire cord and plugged in my shack (filtered) powersource and that was a hughe upgrade. Second: I was listening to a SSB station on 15 MHz and discovered that in the CS/SSB mode and the bfo pitch centered, when you switch on the calibration(!!) the conversation come in much LOUDER and much better to follow. That was new for me. lol
