That need and best player available process is why I was so disappointed in the Giants for not taking QB Milton in the 6th. Big, strong, and athletic was there and the Pats after using their 3rd pick on a QB didn’t pass on him.

I live in the Boston area and all I hear about Milton is that he won’t beat out Bailey Zappe for the 3rd spot. He’s not a QB he’s a big guy with a big arm. He could get flat out released after cut downs.

Hey Ed! Really enjoy your work and colleague Patty Trana’s. A welcome dose of thoughtful analysis (versus too many others with forced invective and “personality”). Curious, what are we seeing out of Drew Loch? Not as competition for Jones but as a backup who’s making the throws and plays? Thanks and stay out of “harms’ way”! Best to you!

Question: a player who seems to be forgotten is Beavers. As I recall, he was taken in the 5th round and was a rookie when McFadden was a rookie, who was taken in the 3rd round. Beavers was playing so well during training camp he was projected to start alongside Blake Martinez, ahead of McFadden. Unfortunately, he had an injury, an ACL tear, and his rookie year was lost. Last season he didn't seem to be the same player and McFadden ended up starting alongside Okereke, while Beavers ended up on special teams. How is he playing this training camp? Does he have a chance of making the team? Is there any chance he will make the 53 man roster and be depth as an inside linebacker? Thanks.

Good show Ed. Thanks for being objective and explaining both sides of every situation where these guys are going against each other. Everybody else acts like it’s doom and gloom if somebody gets beat for a pass or Burns gets the best of Thomas or Banks gets beat by Nabors or Daniel isn’t right on the money. We do expect them to get better, but it is only the second week, and I’m sure timing plays a big part of all that 😎

Ed he's a rookie it happens as far as Neal goes I really pray he at least gets healthy enough the lost time is not good he was basically a can't miss prospect we can ill afford a bust top ten pick hopefully he can at least play guard at worst it took awhile before Eric Flowers turned it around lets hope the same for Eric . This is the best group of talent at WR in a long time lots of speed hopefully Jones has his best season can't help but to root for him !

Question: is the type of ankle break Evan has something that other lineman have had? If so, did they come back completely healthy or were they compromised thereafter? Also, Evan has been reported to weigh 350 lbs. When knocking heads with a defensive lineman who weighs over 300 lbs., the stress his ankle is under may approach 1,000 lbs., so I cannot help but wonder if he will continue to be affected by his ankle. Something else, does he really need to weigh so much? It seems to me he can be just as effective, maybe more so, if he weighs 315 lbs. He's top heavy anyway, so maybe he'll have better balance and quicker feet. Lastly, when he does comeback, RT should not be handed to him. He needs to earn the starting position. My gut tells me he's a bust but let's hope for a full recovery. Thanks.

I don’t really get what would have changed from what Schoen said with Neal getting a chance at RT whenever he’s ready. It’s not like he wasn’t expected to be a little bit behind. So now a few days into training camp your prediction is the experiment is over already? Unless it’s a huge setback I doubt they’d do a 180 after a few missed shell practices

At this point - the Giants need to (must) sign Roten. When Neal is finally ready, he needs to be a backup this season and earn his way onto the playing field.

This was an unpadded practice. My question is why did Dexter hit him in the ribs? What a dumpster fire! There is so much wrong with this team. 2 top 10 lineman chosen (Flowers & Neal) and 2 BUSTS! Need to replace our scouting staff and decision makers for the offensive line. We have successfully drafted and developed defensive tackles but failed on the offensive line. Hire pro personnel from Kansas City, Philadelphia and Dallas that have successful O-line programs. Something is very wrong here. There is no plan in place to choose and develop O-line players. 10+ years and counting…..

As far as Hard Knocks, the potential for disaster is just as like as success. I agree with Patty on how we all have to wait and see on this team. This year has to be the first time I have completely ignored the hype surrounding this team because I've just been burned too many times. I disagree with Patty's statement about Saquon's legacy being linked with this team. His staying with the Giants would have assured that he would have NO legacy, since it was obvious that Shoen didn't really want him. I find it funny how Mara is characterized as the doddering old man with antiquated ideas of team building and marketing fears and Shoen is characterized as the sage who must put up with and conquer the old man. Hilarious. The supposedly "successful" Buffalo team he was a part of, pushed all its chips in the middle of the table last year and got bupkis and just had to have a fire sale.

See my comment WHY. DVOA? This ain't baseball pops. You have 17 games and way too much of what a QB can accomplish is dependent on 10 other guys! It's not hitting in baseball where it's one guy facing a pitcher and he gets 600 at bats in a season against a variety of pitchers...

Yup. Schatz is using stats like DVOA for his anslysis. He doesn't base his analysis on watching football. Thats a huge mistake because FB does not have enough reps to make stats like DVOA highly meaningful. Jones was a much better QB in 2022 than his 26th raringin DVOA implies. One should judge him by how he played and the Ws he crucially helped generate vs Ravens, Green Bay, Vikings (whom the should have beaten twice!)

Don't have to be great, just be average or slightly below average and it would be a huge improvement from last year. I think projecting OL 18 to 27 is a very fair assessment. Having a couple of tight ends who can actually block like Manhertz should help as well.

Ed, if Evan Neal dropped weight to about 315 lbs., do you think this m ight help him play RT? Less body weight can only alleviate the stress his legs are under, and he'll probably be a little more mobile. Also, it's been said he's top heavy, so dropping some weight might help create better balance top to bottom. Most importantly, maybe his legs will be healthier, which can only help his play. Bottom line, despite being 6'7" tall, 350 lbs is a lot of weight to carry and, with the injuries he's been dealing with, it may be too much weight. Thanks.
