I don’t share your love for old cars and Not only doing everything to get them back on the road, but also honouring those cars and keeping its history alive. But… having said that, I must say I do have endless admiration for people like you who do just that. My hat off to you with a deep bow, Respect!! I have always been like Out with the Old, In with the New, but in the last 10+ years with the Quality of cars going down the drain like Nobody’s business, and after just having bought our 5th car in 19 years, 3 of which in just the last 6 years, this is becoming more and more frustrating, so there is definitely a Lot to say about your philosophy!!

Thanks. We all have our interests and that’s fine. Certainly wouldn’t change mine and wouldn’t expect anyone to change theirs either. The Fiesta is a great car and so easy to drive without (my opinion) the annoying distractions of beeps and touchscreens. Running costs will shortly be very low, with just a little maintenance and £100 insurance as it will be of course tax and MOT exempt. Visibility is also better than in modern cars but that’s where things can become an issue. As that visibility obviously is at the cost of safety. For me, the cars, and driving them, is my hobby. My way of being happy. I guess most hobbies cost… Thanks for your comment.

Only really the need for good service history. Preferably a specialist. Check when the Aux drive belt kit (with tensioner) was last changed. Should be 6 years or 37k miles. Would want good quality oil changes, again preferably every 12 months or 10k miles as they can be driven hard. Last thing is, in the UK, the fuel flap says to use ‘98 RON’ or above. We have unleaded fuel typically from 95-99 so I always used the higher 99.

I'm thrilled for you Paul, I can see how excited you are and rightfully so, the man who repaired the car did an excellent job. I do love older Fiesta's, I actually rented one just like it when we got married in 79, they are so simple, and kinda cute. Take Care and Enjoy...

Perfect repairs and definitely the right thing to do. Haha you could have been talking about me parting with my Maverick last year, not that it needed much doing but it had definitely become too difficult for me to work on being so heavy. Hopefully it has gone to a good owner, no idea as I don’t want to know deliberately if that makes sense.

Great video & totally agree with your ethos. Perfect sympathetic repairs which have avoided losing original paint, from blending panels. The way you have improved & preserved the Fiesta, it must be the best possible left in the U.K., if not Europe. I am having similar repairs to my MX5 mk1, luckily MX5’s are as common as muck so all part repair panels are fully available, so I can keep as much original paint as possible

Great Video. Thanks for the memories! I distinctly remember the whine in reverse. Forgot that the roof lining had those black dots. My parents used to have an F Reg MK2 Fiesta Popular Plus. I believe it was the 975CC engine in Black. Such an awesome car. I remember when we went to collect it, I was 4 in 1989. They were really good cars for the time. 70MPH on the motorway was interesting, I seem to remember the steering wheel used to shake. We eventually got a MK3, but it was never as good (Constant Problems). I hope someday to be able to drive a MK2, just to see what it's like. My first car was a Silver MK4 '99 Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec.

This is a type of car for very defensive and discreet drivers, obviously because it is exposed to severer damage in the event of an accident. Otherwise Kei-car is answer to the hard times with skyrocketing car-related cost not least fuel cost. Government must reduce vehicle tax for this type of cars which weigh no more than 700kg. Another reassuring factor is, as mentioned here, that the Japanese cars are generally manufactured (and maintained) to withstand the most rigorous MOT regime in the world. Kei is exact opposite of EV/Tesla on many levels.

Totally agree. It would be good if the Kei car had better crash protection but as a car otherwise, it is probably the only car most people need.

She is a lovely car. I admit I had a look on AT for a similar volvo V50 with the 2.4l engine and found one or two that I quite liked. But I don't have the space or need for one and the VED seemed high at over £400. My Skoda Fabia was a one owner (old gent) with skoda history so it makes more sense to keep that in fine fettle.
