I have a similar machine and the motor is running but nothing else is moving. Any ideas? JCPenney 522f

@@shefalisimlote If the motor is running and nothing is moving, more than likely you need a new lug motor belt. If after opening it up the belt "seems" okay then it could be a case of not having been oiled and applying fresh gear grease.

My White sewing machine was bought in the 1960's or late 1950's. I really need someone in Pa. If you know of someone. It has been sitting in a room that has coated the machine with a film from a gas heater with a yellow residue. A small part came off the thrreader. So I am not really sure it is able to be repaired. I would appreciate some advice.
@sewwhatseamstress9076Ай бұрын
You can use, with a q-tip, some 91% rubbing alcohol to clean it as the alcohol dissipates when it dries. It can be tedious but you don't want to risk promoting rust on a metal machine. I use the rubbing alcohol on vintage machines that have a build up of oil or unknown substance all the time! If you have the model number I could see if there was ever a Service Manual made for it. Service Manuals list machine parts information.

HI just curious is this machine exceptionally loud/ Or is this something that adjusts over time as well?
@sewwhatseamstress90762 ай бұрын
I would say it is about average as portable walking foot leather machines go. I don't have too frequent use of it currently so in answer to your question about "over time" it is possible BUT most machines whether regular sewing, heavy duty, or industrial, all typically retain the same amount of "noise level". I would be worried if all of a sudden it sounded different. There is more torque expelled by a machine like this to be able to stitch through thick layers and leathers. I haven't owned one single sewing machine that got "quieter" over time. A machine either starts out quiet or it doesn't. Has to do with how much mechanics are installed on it and whether they are metal or plastic. This kind of machine is SOLID METAL so a bit of "noise" is expected, however it is not so loud as people might think.

Sounds like the stitch dial knob "MAY" have been removed previously? If so, then before you put the dial back on, align the knob to The SS stitch, put the screw back in and then see if you can turn it to the left to go back towards the stitches 4-1. I found one on eBay being "sold for parts" and hopefully I can get it to be able to show you exactly how to fix the problem.for.your specific model machine. In the meantime I will be searching for a possible SERVICE MANUAL.
@GH-zy2dh6 ай бұрын
i took the small screw out that hold that knob to the machine and there in only one way to install you have to align the whole in he knob with the one on the chassis so the number 3 of the selector knob is where the screw align with...I just can not even see how would the knob turn if there is a screw holding it and not allowing any movement...very weird@@sewwhatseamstress9076
@sewwhatseamstress90766 ай бұрын
The screw is like a "tension" adjuster. It can be VERY TOUCHY. I remember having a machine with the same type of screw. You don't want it too snug or it stays stuck. Not a great design, for sure. Once I got mine adjusted correctly I never touched that dang screw again, lol!
@GH-zy2dh6 ай бұрын
lol but that screw on this machine has no tension if you drop it in the hole even without any tightning or adjusting the knob wont turn it seems that is what i dont understand, very weird....but anyways thank you for all what you do and have a blessed day@@sewwhatseamstress9076

@sewwhatseamstress90766 ай бұрын
The work space is in my basement so EVERYTHING sounds louder down there, LOL! "Walking Foot" machines are always a bit louder because of the torque pressure needed to sew through the thicker material, leather.

I have a singer steam press similar to that one, I’m not the smartest guy on the planet, so i used tap water, sure enough it got clogged up, I just added half water, half Distilled vinegar, ran it through the system, and it cleaned it out, lesson learned don’t use that tap water

Yep! Same goes for a hand iron! Reason is that there are minerals and calcium particles in tap water that becomes sedentary in them I have a water distiller I use for my steam press, iron , AND to make drinking water so we don't consume all that crap in tap water, trace chemicals, fluoride, etc. Matter of fact I use it for water for cooking (not boiling though). Even give our pets distilled water to drink!
