I just found you and I'm about to binge all the rest of these dives, hell yea. About your sound quality though, I believe your mic is peaking in this video. You might try bringing the gain on your sound down in your editing soft wear first, but if that doesn't fix it you may need to fiddle with the mic itself, unfortunately I don't have any experience with lavalier style mics so I don't have many suggestions. If it were a normal mic I'd suggest moving it further from your face, but idk if that works for these mics.

It was weird first hearing that people saw her as having straight hair! Re: autism (as an autistic person) I'm assuming both Robin and Demetrius are in their 40s. Even most autistic people don't get to adulthood without learning a few common figures of speech. That doesn't mean he always knows when someone is using a turn of phrase, even the same one he just used. The same could be said about Demetrius understanding the popular definition of tomatoes as vegetables, but considering how Stardew Valley tends to position tone and framing of other in-game conflicts, I can take Demetrius's words at face value instead of assuming he was being deliberately obtuse. Similar to "you all right?", it was only within the past year of my adult life that I learned when people ask "what did you do today/last weekend/what will you do tomorrow/plans for the week?" they are not actually asking for a rundown of your entire schedule. Even so, I still struggle with trying to answer this question succinctly in the way neurotypicals socialize.

Hii, newer here on the channel but i just wanted to give you feedback about the audio quality; i personally find the old quality of sound wayyy better than this new one- the old one sounds super crisp, while this one sounds crackly and not very clear. For me personally, this is such a turn off and i have to watch an older video now, bcs i‘m very sensitive to good audio quality on longer videos like these

I love Penny and, despite the problems with the writing, i like that she's rude to George when trying to help, cuz that's a realistic character flaw. Being shy and having a bad reationship with her mom aren't character flaws. A flawed character needs to make mistakes and see negative repercurssion to their actions. So yeah, a rewrite of that scene to highlight that she was objectively wrong would be good imo. (edit: nooooo, stop calling her a trad wife, she's literally married to a woman (me))

Listening to you talk about the eight heart scene, it would be interesting if he says at some point that he's been working on several different ideas for the past year, and has come up with worldbuilding and characters and stuff for different possibilities, but doesn't have the confidence to choose a path. Since he's so concerned about the book being well liked, and proving himself to people who doubted him (and an easy way to do that is through book sales), it could be fun for his arc to involve him being so focused on appealing to a demographic and doing what seems profitable/popular. I know I often have that kind of thought process while creating my own projects. Him struggling with authenticity vs. insecurity vs. the demands of the real world would be relatable to a lot of creatives, I think, and would fit in with a lot of already established aspects of his character ... Maybe I should write Stardew Valley fanfiction, heh

I'm odd and personality wise. Emily is a wonderful friend character but I've never had interest in dating her. Clint is shy and I was always rooting for him to get with Emily but it's clear she's not interested and I like the storyline progression of him trying, failing, and acknowledging this to move on (excluding the ghosting/unfriending of Emily, but I understand it. It's painful.) I love blacksmithing and foundry work as well so my personal bond with him is different too. I was devastated when I voted for Sandy to be romanceable and Emily won the vote. It still makes me so sad that Sandy isn't date-able excluding some mods. I always hoped Emily would take over Sandy's shop in the desert and sell her clothes when you got to marry Sandy. It's nice to at least get my thoughts out after all these years.

I wonder if it has ever occurred to players that in the game it is ok, and even preferred, to choose the "wrong answer" the one that looses points and be willing to be correct at a cost of friendship. You can later rebuild the points. If you see this as a roll playing game, would you always tell people what they want to hear, just to gain friendship? Fifty points is only 1/5 of a heart. I'm mostly referring to Penny's 2heart, the Harvey and George scene, and even Pierre's stash scene. 🪙🪙 (my 2 cents)

I wonder if Kel’s gender changing has to do with punching them. I could see why CA would want to avoid any issues with men and women fighting each other - it wouldn’t exactly look good to have a male character punch a queer woman. But yeah, being a bi woman myself this is something you see a lot in games. Kinda mixed on it myself, some games do it poorly and some it doesn’t bother me at all. Stardew Valley is in the second camp for me, since the game is pure escapism.

tbh I don't thinks so far fetched to assume that he did have the novel planned and WAS written into a corner and noticed that changing the focus/genre helped him with solving some of his plot holes. Changing the genre of some writing project is not that hard especially when they already had those elements. Him writing a romance between to characters eg and noticing that he should focus more on the mystery aspects of the story because that benefits his story wouldn't be completely unthinkable imo

im one of those people that plans my farm and has a bajillion wiki tabs open to get the best outcome from my gameplay, bc thats my brand of gaming and probably autism. i love having guides. i love knowing what's coming. i literally will look up the plot for a movie before deciding to watch it to see if i'll like it. i also need to do things the right way, once again probably a neurodivergent thing. so usually, in penny's scenes, i'll either skip them because i don't like her, or i'll go with the game's 'correct' choice bc i need to always make the 'correct' choice. but it bothers me so much. i love george, i love the grumpy old man stereotype, he's so funny and he likes leeks!! when he's made to apologise for being grumpy or stubborn, i'm like no that's your personality!! why does every other character get autonomy? kent and shane, who have clinical mental disorders, get more respect than george. just because he's a grumpy old man? let him eat leeks and make jokes about still being alive!!

That was such a nice and much needed video talking about the 2 hearts event!! I never really saw anyone on youtube addressing that except for some posts on reddit! I think what makes Penny so uninteresting for me is the damsel in distress trope. Maybe because I can relate way too much - ( incoming oversharing) parentification, coping mechanisms, etc etc. but I got married, then divorced and now living with all family problems again 💀 She makes me feel every time like: GIRL, DONT MAKE OTHER PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE OVER YOUR HAPPINESS!! i married elliott the first time i played this game. when i saw his 8 heart cutscene, i interpreted his audience leaving as just members of the community showing up because they know him, giving him the attention they think he deserves, then peacing out. not everyone is interested in reading, and a handful of adults in pelican town (including elliott!) comment about how younger people 'dont read anymore,' which imo builds the world a bit more as reflecting our own, where a wage-motivated society is at odds with natural harmony (which as you may have noticed from dialogue at the dance of the moonlight jellies, elliott cares about a lot!). i hadn't thought much about him since then, but watching this video has helped me realize that despite himself being an author, his character isn't very well-written, and it's true that he doesn't seem wholly relatable and his story's plot isn't realistic for sdv's standards at least. i found him rather charming and attractive as a 15-year-old but my tastes have definitely changed. romancing him is like experiencing a parody of a cheesy novel at lightning speed, which can be more enjoyable if things like the 4 heart scene gender descrepency and the 10 heart scene were tweaked a little bit. he could do with a bit of plothole filling!

Hello!! Okay so basically I wanna comment about Harvey and him pressuring his elderly patient. I had a seminar with a geriatric pharmacist today and asked about patient independence as they age and what to do if an individual refuses treatment. They said that in their education there’s courses that focus on communication with patients and that there are phases that you should identify and adjust accordingly. Like, if the patient’s like “im interested but I’m not ready yet” your response should be to provide more information in order to make them active in their own treatment yknow. And they also said that obviously this can’t be forced and if a patient refuses they have to respect that. Like they can try to “convince” through follow ups and information but threats is absolutely (obviously) out of the question. Now, clearly stardew is made by one dude, and this dude isn’t a doctor, but this characterization makes Harvey seem like idk a really bad doctor lmao. I wonder if this could add to like, his fear of loss. Like his entire persona in the town is “the doctor” and he’s willing to compromise that identity (by being a bad doctor) in order to keep his patients alive. Or not, maybe im just yapping LMAO

I have only ever moved in with Krobus because the idea of trying to romance a character causes me immense anxiety XD (I am aro-ace.) I loved this deep dive, thank you!

As an American, I can say that I have never heard the term pop over or had one in my life I have also never had a Yorkshire pudding. I do not know what is in either of them and I think it would be very common for most of the people I know to not know what they are either.

2:14:19 this actually isn't true a lot of kids don't have the same experience as their siblings for example, a lot of boys get coddled or treated as the favorite and a lot of girls get pushed to the side or treated like maids because they aren't boys. My childhood was miserable and full of parentification yet my little sister gaslights me and acts like it was better because she's way younger than me and our father was starting to not be an alcoholic at that point so she had a much better childhood. It's a rift between us that she is a delusional person that doesn't want confrontation or focus on what really matters only placating people like Penny. Then she wonders why she only ever has small talk with people and she's not close with anyone well sorry but it takes work and dealing with confrontation and making compromises in order for good relationships that are fulfilling. By her not wanting confrontation, she's just not growing or strengthening relationship with other people she only cultivates fake relationships where she wants to please the other person to make things easier like with my parents. She's the one who makes all of the effort to keep the relationship going. They never check up on me barely talk to me and they were periods of years where they didn't know where I was or what I was doing and clearly didn't care but she like the sun shines out their butts. Then you get my brother for example who was both coddled and told repeatedly that he was the person who needed to take care of my parents when they got older. My parents had four girls before they finally got the boy they always wanted and none of us could ignore that. It was very clear to us that we were chopped liver compared to him just because of the genitals he was born with. Talk about something that we still struggle with today. My brother got much better treatment way more attention. Everything he wanted, and my mom basically waited on him hand and foot. He was the youngest. My dad spent time with him and actually talked to him. My dad and I didn't have much of a relationship at all, and he was downright disrespectful to me many times and clearly did not care about me. Making comments on my body and yelling at me constantly. Strange thing is although all of us sisters have struggled with mental health and s*icide ideation and attempts my brother is the one who succeeded. Ironic isn't it
