Your choice of music here is extraordinary. If I’m not mistaken, this is almost close Astrid Gilberto, I am so resonates with the work that has been done, what a dance between the two.

How the authors themselves remember the creation of the song. According to them, it was born - at least its textual basis - in their favorite bar Veloso, which was part of the Botineiro restaurant on Montenegro Street in the heart of Ipanema. Here, thirty-five-year-old Tom Jobim spent the hot summer drinking cold beers, and fifty-year-old Vincius came here from time to time to discuss other artistic plans. Tom noticed the girl first. He followed her for a few weeks and only then brought her to his friend's attention. She was about fifteen years old, with a slim build, dark brown hair, and emerald green eyes. She was also the only one far and wide who wasn't afraid to go out in a two-piece swimsuit. Each time, she limped to where the composer was sitting, bought cigarettes (not for herself, but for her mother) and headed for the sea. The beach in Ipanema is as famous as that in neighboring Copacabana, and the girl's cheerful pupils were, according to both astonished gentlemen, the color of the ocean that washes those shores. Jobim began to convince his co-author that he must capture such beauty in a song. So De Moraes decided to wait for the girl at the bar and see if she was really as beautiful as Tom claimed. It took three days for the girl to set out again on her lazy pilgrimage to the clear surface. But when Vincius saw her, he knew the wait was worth it. He wasn't so much interested in the girl's sex-appeal as her youthful energy. "A golden-tanned lady, something between a flower and a mermaid," he blurted out later. "On its way to the sea, the day shines for those who are sad. And then there is that feeling of youth that is leaving, of beauty that is not just for you..." There is no reason not to believe that the first lines reached him. before finishing the last beer, however, Vinicius later claimed that he wrote the entire text right in the bar - apparently because the normal work routine we mentioned above would not be of interest to anyone.

Man, this is instructive. The bass is all root-fifth-octave of course, but getting around from chord to chord on bass is all leading tones. The occasional foray into thirds keeps it fresh…. it’s a lesson in making bass lines interesting without getting in the way of the music

Being of the Beatles/Led Zeplin generation, but having a broad range of music appreciation. I will say, in the realm of popular music, that was the best era. Music, clothes, manners. Classy, polished, confident, and optimistic. Big bands were the best.

What a classy lady singing during such wonderful & innocent times. If thos song were to come out today, the singer would be cross-dressing like a man (wearing pants instead of a dress or skirt), covered in tattoos like a total tr♤mp, swearing like a drunken sailor, and having no clue how to behave ladylike. Our only chance today at happiness is by immersing ourselves in old black & white films, pretending we're back living in a time when the world made sense.
