Those generators are not "free" as they do need replacement of the molecular sieves and filters, which can get pricey, and they have a very limited flow rate and pressure, so you are generally limited to smaller tip sizes and heat output and forget about cutting.. Definitely useful for hobby use, but that said, that little "micro torch" is probably the most useful torch on the bench. Very concentrated pinpoint flame and low flow, so works perfectly with a medical oxygen generator and even the disposable oxygen bottles last for hours of use vs. the other styles of torches where the tips are really too big given the size of the canisters: a full oxygen canister basically lasts for only about 10 minutes of really decent heat, which may be enough for a couple of small brazing repairs, but which is not really economical for actual welding or cutting.. What you might want to investigate are HHO torches, which basically run on distilled water and potassium hydroxide drain cleaner. These use electrolysis to separate hydrogen and oxygen and then you recombine them in a torch and are used extensively in the jewelery industry, and after paying for the machine (or making your own, they are not hard to make) are probably the closest thing to truly "free" welding there is...

@@andyfireblades You can also use expansion bolts that will have a "female" sleeve in the floor. So no bolts protruding from the floor when the divice is not in use. Cheers.

I have oxy propane for heating and cutting, but was told you can't weld steel with it because it produces a brittle weld ? Something to do with the hydrogen atoms not burning in the flame, but becoming deposited in the weld ? 🤷‍♂️
@andyfireblades

it is not as good as acetylene, but it works if you need it to and dont have an alternative

@AndyFireBlade - Medical oxygen generators aren't ideal for welding because at max flow purity dramatically decreases.

Great idea and find. Like you say the flow rate would be an issue for bigger jobs. Could you build a small gasometer (gas holder) with the water seal method to store the oxygen till it’s needed ? BOC bottle rental is a killer for hobbyists, that’s why I do MMA welding at home.

I do want to caution about exchanging regulators & hoses between Acetylene and Propane. Depending on what grade your hoses are they may prematurely breakdown in less than a year. Search Keywords “crossco selecting a welding hose.pdf” Decent overview of Torch Fuel Hose Grades with “R” & “RM” are Acetylene Only while “T” is rated for all common fuel gases. Outside of the actual hoses, while using an Acetylene Regulator for Propane is usually possible [Since most modern manufacturers use (neoprene?) diaphragms in both] you should never try to adapt a propane regulator to run Acetylene since the all important safety feature of a 15PSI Max output won’t be inherently built in (not really aplicable in your example but important info for hobbyists).

The red is for the flattest part of the tire. Yellow is for the lightest part. I had to look it up from Yokohoma. Often red and yellow are quite close together on the tire. I found all of this to be insignificant if you plan on balancing the tire. This video does not show the state of the balance. You just need a bulls eye bubble level and sticky weights to balance it.

The oxygen machine works by using a chemical reaction and eventually the necessary chemical which is built into the machine will run out and the machine will then no longer work. It is not free. The refurbishing companies that supply these machines recharge the chemical reagent (I believe) since the motors and electronics are perpetual. It is interesting to see that they can work in a welding or brazing application on a small scale.

looks like a rip off of a Smiths little torch. the best thing about using an oxygen concentrators is they do not enrich the oxygen concentration of the room. if anything they reduce the oxygen in the room by burning it faster in the flame. Had a real smiths little torch for years with a concentrator works great, i wonder if the rip offs work as well. for the largest flame a rose bud tip is great if you can keep the oxygen flow rate up.

Oxygen leaks do matter. Things that normally do not burn very well or easily will burn vigorously in an oxygen-rich environment.

I think I saw this very same car at the Oct 2021 NEC Classic Car show, flanked by a red Europa and a black Elise on either side. There was another white-over-tartan James Bond - spec S1 in the show, cordoned off in another hall. Silver over black really suits this car and evoques the 1972 M70 concept car ("the silver car"). What's it worth? In this condition, I'd say £70k.
