Thanks for the video , awesome footage! Special thanks for including the entry point into the ocean, always tricky if it’s a new spot and no one else there to offer advice. I did Alvor, Guincho, Obidos and Lagido Baleal this summer, I can’t wait to go to Sagres after watching your vid, thank you !

Thank you for the nice comment! I have to say, it's not often you get conditions like this there! This was a rare SW wind direction, usually it's N or E. With N wind you can get nice conditions in Tonel beach (Sagres) but it can be tricky to get out if the waves are too big. Lot's to explore!

awesome review - thanks! I ride pretty much exactly your gear (HA925/HA195; even have an orange F-one Strike wing). Currently on an Armstrong 60l FG board but have to replace that. Quite disappointed with the quality of their boards... I was worried about track placement and it looks like you are all the way to the front and even have the tabs swapped. But good to know at least that position works! I am 60kg, so hopefully that gives me an inch or so of play at least. I do have a Naish 50l board where I have about an inch of play left in the tracks.

I had the FIRST production board of the Appleslice V2, and they've slightly changed the design since (even narrower at 22.5" now, mine was 23"). I believe the tracks are also slightly more forward now too. I think if you ride a wider stance (back foot more back) you would also ride the mast more back in the tracks. But because I have a super narrow stance I like it all the way forward. And Appletree build quality is MILES ahead of anyone else.

@@joaomendonca Hi Joao!! Where in Portugal are you? I have some Portuguese friends from when I lived there (I was there 6 months, the winter of '21-'22), all over Portugal all doing wingfoiling!! A good set is a rental set, because you need a big board to learn for the first 5-10 sessions, and after that you will want something smaller. Let me know and I can hook you up with some guys there perhaps 🤙

@@joaomendonca Ahh ok!! Unfortunately I don't know that area that well.. I spent some time around Peniche, then the Obidos lagoon is best place to learn. And I spent some time in the Algarve, then the Lagos lagoon is the best place to go to learn. I think around Lisboa/Ericeira, best would be to go to a kite school, but not on the Atlantic coast but on the Tagus river side, where there are no waves. They'll for sure help you out 🤙

Nice one, good review, those look like great boards alright. Your comments on the volume is great to hear. I am similar size to you, on a 80l board and not sure about going smaller. I tend to agree that 60l sounds about right as when you compare dimensions with 30-40l boards they just aren't that different (or different enough to make a big difference). Better to steer the conversation back towards how the board is shaped and looks as opposed to just volume, which is a catch all dangerous number.
@greg.ocallaghan
@greg.ocallaghan 2 жыл бұрын
Agree 100%! A well shaped 60L board with the volume in the right places might actually feel more nimble than a 50L board with a wrong shape. Both in terms of how it releases off the water and how it feels when flying. Glad you found the review useful 🤙

Thanks for posting, I'm 79 KG riding a 5'4 95L Fanatic as my first board and I've been wondering what size to go down to in the future. Seems like 75L is the next step most people do but maybe a 60L range would work too. I've been looking at this one, the new Fanatic, and the Freedom Foil Wingnut.

Great vid. What size Backlands do you wear? Do they tend to run on the larger or smaller size? Can't find any outlets here on the East Coast that carry this model. I'm around a US10, though to be honest it depends on the shoe (ie. some sneakers I wear a 9.5, even had a pair of K2 softboots 10.5). Thanks.

@@greg.ocallaghan Naw man, thank you for all of that. I haven't deep dived any forums yet but there isn't a mountain of information online out there on softboot vs hardboot. So appreciate you taking the time to write that up and share your thoughts. I'm really leaning hard towards going for it. Re: riding, I had previously glossed over the fact that I could even "soften" up the hardboot with one of the flexier spring options. Thanks for that reminder. May very well end up getting the softest one. Cheers man, will definitely drop by again if I have more questions!

@@greg.ocallaghan I read that the tech toes can be an issue on very set back directional boards, with narrow/aggressive stances. Ill email Phantom back to double check as I believe my board/stance check both boxes. Apparently they are coming out with new tech toes this year that are 'bomb proof' and recommended. Thanks again.
