Thank you, I lived in Tynemouth and when I first moved there I honestly thought it was a factory. That was probably because the only buildings that were that size that I had known growing up in Lancashire were mills. The history is wonderful and I never knew any of it, especially tickled to see a man from my home town of Bolton was involved in the design.

Hi Mike l really enjoyed this. I was a planner based in North Shields between 86 and 92, probably at its lowest point, although l am originally from Ipswich. I had not fully appreciated the Georgian parts were part of a master plan. Reminds me of Birkenhead which was also a planned Georgian town which failed to fully materialise although at a slightly later date. If l can find an excuse to go back l will pop into the Low Lights.

Sir James was my great grandfathers brother Herbert Knott I am an Australian such a fascinating story. I will definitely be visiting the Newcastle area & to see the church named after his two sons killed in the war.. my great grandfather named his house in Sydney Australia “Wylam” I grew up hearing these stories of Sir James.

This is my Dad's brother, Uncle Jack. Oh! what a joy to hear you read it .. Thank you..Thank you..there are many more..I love the educated Geordie..it makes me laugh out loud 😂

I may be a very distant relative of this man since I am a Knott also. However, I am located in America and am descended from James Knott of 1617.

My dad Bill Carmichael was Tom's friend and partner Tom approached my dad who had a fishmongers in North shields as he wanted a partner so he could concentrate on his writing my dad died in 1974 aged 36 I was 11 at the time myself my sister Hayley aged 6 and my mam stayed with Tom and his wife Barbara as,we came to terms with my father's premature death the kindness they showed to us has stayed with me all my life

A excellent snapshop of the life of Sir James Knott, he was an incredibly generous man and his legacy lives on through the Sir James Knott Trust. As Trust Secretary from 2002-2016, I never ceased to be astrouned by the continuing discovery of the achievements and generosity of Sir James Knott and his family.

I have lived in North Shields over 80 years and have read two stories of folk who helped to make this town what it used to be like in the 18 hundreds. So much a hard but happy life .
