I love my 14 foot box. I did a tight maneuver into a strip mall parking lot without any problems. So far, the leveling jacks Hanging down a couple of inches hasn’t hurt. But the leveling jacks are worth it. Stay tuned for major announcements about our MT-45 step van program after we get MoFO down on the Baja.

I love your build!! I have been looking for a 14ft mt45 for a few months to do a stealth van build since they can still sorta fit in some parking spaces(at least as much as my f250 CC LB does) Was wondering if the leveling jacks hurt your ground clearance any? Also, do you have any underside shots with the new axles and full drive train? Once again, awesome rig and enjoy it you've earned it

We kept the original fiberglass roof, but added wood 2 x 4 structure underneath appropriately spaced to support the solar panels on the roof.

How did you do your roof? Is the original fiberglass just painted?

I live full-time in my 2004 Freightliner MT45 step van. I travel with the seasons in the US, from southern Arizona in the winter to the Rockie Mtns. in the summer. I don't have 4wd but I find that the forest roads that need 4wd are also too narrow with low overhanging branches to get my step van through anyway. I carry a dual-sport motorcycle to take me to the 4wd places. I wish that I could have done a ground-up build as you are doing, that would give a much greater peace of mind on reliability. I'm currently waiting for some very expensive Freightliner brake parts in Pagosa Springs Colorado. I'm at the mercy of a shop I have no experience with and no choice but to get the work done here before crossing Wolf Creek Pass on the way to my next destination. My budget allows for this kind of repair, even multiple times in a year but it's still not enjoyable.

I justified the four-wheel-drive set up because I'm building a beach cruiser! Stay tuned for our Baja trip! Life is all about trade-offs; I spent 50 years with my nose to the engineering career grind stone with very little travel. Now I'm 73 with a big pile of cash, and not much sand left in the hourglass, hence the the rapid deluxe build.

@@johncuth5471 I didn't think about beaches and sand, 4wd would be a necessity there for me. I love the freedom this lifestyle has given me in my retirement and I hope it's the same for you.

Ive been looking everywhere for lifted step van builds and couldnt find a thing. So many questions. What year and model step van is this? What kind of lift did you do on this? Please do more build video on this 🙏.

We used a Dana 60 with a high steer conversion and a redneck ram assist kit. Next time I will use a Dana 70 and try it without the ram assist.

I'll double check the specs with Max-Bilt. We are combining walk-on panels for the deck area with traditional panels over the the front cab area and we are still fine tuning the installation. The power output is doubled with 24v over 12v panels. The added insurance of installing a 150 amp 24v (3600W) auxiliary alternator on the Cummins Diesel powerplant should cover any solar charging deficiencies. Thanks for being a subscriber Wade!

Go with a Dana 70 front axle; they come with the high steer set up. Just hook up to your steering box with a drag link and you are good to go!
