You can write AP exams anytime in high school- there is no strict guidelines on when you have to give them. Some students write 5-10 each year so that by the time they are applying for colleges, they have >20 APs.

Hi there, I am a 9thie and though I am young I think I can still give you some advice. Extra-curriculars (ECs) are important and stats too to strengthen your application but the most important thing is the essay. Work on your essay. Its not what you did in school a 3-4 para descriptive thing. You need to tell your story, about you and how it reflected on your life. In short, you need to share a memory of yours. In class 11 and 12 maintain good grades. Your highschool (9-12) gpa (marks) get submitted so focus on that too. If you are balancing everything good work on stats and ECs. For stats, participate more in contests, online or in-person. For ECs start learning a sport, instrument or maybe pick up a hobby like start a youtube channel. Basically explore your area of interest. And if you are still confused I suggest talking to your schools college counsellor or get advice from someone experienced ( youtube is a helpful resource and you can maybe take an appointment for one-on-one college counselling calls too) If anyone spots a mistake in my reply please correct me it will be appreciated. Essay competitions (Online)- JLI essay contest, Goi peace foundation, Harvard crimson essay contest etc. STEM- there are plenty of competitions in this vast field. Some global ones are - ISEF (science and engineering fair), Junior Science & Humanities Symposium, conrad challenge etc Commerce- Blue ocean challenge, diamond challenge, IEO (Economics olympiad)etc. I appreciate you for helping your son out. I am also a 9th grader currently studying in DPS R.K. Puram. Today, I reached out to my father saying I wanted to participate in a program, he denied. He doesn't know US admiss. are not fully merit-based and ECs and Stats have some value too. He simply asked me to not to get distracted by such things and focus on my academics first.
