The three medals of some old veteran? Some senior soldier - NCO or Officer? Perhaps a doctor. fascinating... Or was it the plundered medal collection of some Russian soldier.

I do believe that the "pistol magazine" you've found is actually an Italian Beretta SMG 20round magazine. Truly nice finds!

I think the round, brown Bakelite box is not for Gramophone Needles, but for paint tape for typewriting machines. Eupen is not a German City, it is in Belgium. The small, oval enamel sign with the inscription "Tellertuch" is for a kitchen towel to dry up dishes/plates. In the past there was different type oft these signs used. Some were "Gläsertuch" for drinking glasses, "Messertuch" for silver knifes and so on. So they had different towels for different use. The white porcelain shard with the inscription "Graupen" was once a kitchen storage container for barley groats. Nice finds at all 🙂

If you find a body do people come out to recover it for a war grave or is it just left there
@IronMikeMetaldetecting4 күн бұрын
They come out and recover the remains. The remains are then reburied at a military cemetery with a ceremonial honor. If there is ID in them they’ll notify the family

How is there so much earth on top of them? Surely there wasn’t enough time to accumulate that level of clay and sand and soil.
@marietteestabrook40982 күн бұрын
80 years for WW2
@devicemechanix9049Күн бұрын
@@marietteestabrook4098 that amount of earth would take many hundreds, to thousands of years. If it was all organic matter and not sand and clay, maybe, but even that’s doubtful. I’m wondering if they plowed the battle fields under after the war.

What happen when you find a urss or gringo soldier , what is the protocol ? Is it posible to go with them only to see how you find this stuff ? Gettings from Mexico

I'd like to see a video metal detecting in Finland! Maybe in Lapland, where we fought the Germans at the end of the war...The most interesting finds of the Finnish wars with the Russians are sadly on Russia's soil, so no going there now...

Those WWI medals were probably on a ribbon bar worn by Volkssturm member killed or surrendered. For the men who survived the conflict from 1914-1918 they thought front line combat was over for them. Belief in one man eventually thrust them into chaos in 1945. That butter knife's condition is astonishing with the silver plate still showing.
@human1519 күн бұрын
The person you’re referring to was never actually elected. I wouldn’t say “belief in one Man” had anything to Do with it.

Europe will forever be stuck with the trauma of the war. How heartbreaking it is that even now we still find the dead lost and forgotten, and bury them.

@ericscottstevens11 күн бұрын
WWI Iron cross. For sure it is Volkssturm area. Many of the men were aged in their 50's by then. They wore their Iron Cross back into combat for the last time atter that award sat in a drawer at home for over 2 decades without much fanfare. The south of Berlin had thousands of Volkssturm participants go missing in action in the severe fighting in the woods in April 1945. Either killed and buried without documentation or captured and sent east to the gulags. Some say those woods are haunted now for the futile sacrifice.

As a dedicated War zone/ camp site detectorist myself ~ I have a large number of Identity tags found locally over the years and I refuse to trade ~ or sell the tags as I feel this totally disrespectful to the (Australian) diggers of WWII. I always endeavour to trace their history or families and have had some success in doing so ~ It is always a thrill to return relics or individual items to the families ~ I generally agree to return the time to the family on the proviso they share something of their fore bearer and as a result I have had been privilege to some great stories shared of combat and military experiences from humorous to being captive of Vichy French troops in the middle east ~ even later serving as the (BCOF) in the occupation of Japan ~

Very interesting. My great grandpa fell near Wreizen (Wriezen?) in front of Berlin, right next to the Seelow Heights. One of his friends made it home and said he was last seen in an area that got hit heavily rockets and overran. The Red Cross said his remains are likely under a factory (hey got this info from a German prisoner who said he buried lots in that are there).

So impressed that you recognice what the items you find are😮 for me, a rusty round gadget would just as easily be from some old scrap that the elderly used and dug up when it was broken. There are an infinite number of things to familiarize yourself with. Should have had someone with experience on the subject with them when looking. Who owns the fields you are digging on?
