Iron Mike Metaldetecting

7 ай бұрын

This is the last of three video shot in at the Arctic, Finnmark Norway.
One of our local guides, Ken, knew a few abandoned WW2 sites where the relics were left behind back in 1945 and have been untouched for all these years. I have been to some amazing former WW2 sites but this was really one of the most bizar places I have ever been. Mountains of WWII relics just laying there on the surface. Metal detectors were pretty much useless since the ground is covered in steel and metal.
We did our best to find Hitler's lost gold, but unfortunately we didn't succeed this trip. Maybe next time! We won't give up, that's for sure.
If you enjoy the content and want to see more and maybe even receive a WW2 relic, go check out my Patron's website:

Hope you enjoy the video and please go give my friends a follow on their Instagram accounts;

FAQ:
-Do you report things found to the authorities?
Yes, all nasty things found like UXO's and finds that could be important from an archaeology perspective are reported to the local authorities.
-Do you sell finds?
I am a collector myself so I hardly sell relics. But if I do then I'll post it on the social media pages or check out my Patron's website. I share finds with my Patrons (check the Patreon website for more details).
-How do you gain permission for metal detecting?
Check out local laws regarding metal detecting and get permission from the landowner. Or hook up with a local metal detecting club in the area you would like to detect and get your information from them. (I stopped responding to questions like this all together, I'm Iron Mike not Google Mike..)
-Can I come with you?
No.
-Do you love me?
Yes I do!
-Will you marry me?
No, lets just be friends.
-I want to see more!
Go check out the social media pages, or consider becoming a Patron! Patrons have access to much more, special videos, behind the scenes footage and WW2 goodie boxes containing relics me and my friends found over the years.
-What metal detector do you use?
The Garrett Ace Apex or the Garrett AT Max.
-Camera?
Go Pro 7, Go Pro 10 and a Sony handy cam
-Favorite find?
Deep Digger Dan's KZfaq channel. GET IN!
-What is on your bucket list?
Hitler's lost gold or the missing Nazi gold train everybody is searching for. But until then I am happy with whatever pops up, I even enjoy finding landmines... :-s

Mike, the metal tube you picked up after the shovel handle is the ferrule that goes over the handle, down at the business end, to support and protect it. The shoe cleats are ice crampons and the pointed pick ends go on the base of an ice axe handle.

Same here in Northern Finland. The forests are littered with stuff. Found a live 1936 mauser bullet the other day. We have over 30 camps nearby in one area alone. Buckets dated 1940, tin cans, parts of vans, engines, oil lamps…….the list goes on.

Probably because others have been there before but weren't conscientious about replacing the dirt and soil back into the holes that were dug. As the old saying goes it only takes one or a few bad apples to spoil things for everyone else.

It's crazy that all of this is just laying on the ground. If this were my woods when I was a kid, that would be picked clean. We did find a lot of arrowheads but I never had a metal detector to look for anything underground. Luckily for my grandparents generation but unfortunately for me, there are no WWII artifacts in our New England woods.

I was looking for packrafting in that area an found your channel 😂. But thanks, very interesting. My grandpa's brother was there as a soldier of Gebirgsdivision "Nord". He got a finish medal for rescuing a (finish) officer, Nahkampfspange (close combat medal) etc. He got shot in the lungs. However, he survived. He may have been in that field hospital. My grandpa said his brother was quite "famous" within his unit for several actions / "good shooting". My grandpa himself was also soldier of the "Nord" (12. Rgt.), but was fighting in southern Germany at the end of the war (he was 18). Their three brothers didn't survive the war, the youngest turned 16 in Dec. 1944. My grandpa died last year, his surviving brother several years ago (I knew him). My grandpa was heavily traumatized and always told me to run away if there is a war starting...

Those metal attachments that the mountain troops wore on the bottom of their boots are cleats. I'm guessing the owner has had other people who used metal detectors and dug up the land in places but they didn't replace the soil as they found it. That's a big no-no here in the U.S. where some of the guys who are searching for long buried artifacts on their KZfaq sites are very meticulous in making sure that they replace the soil back in the ground so as to not leave unsightly holes. Maybe you could show the owner what you do when you seach the ground and how you restore the ground back to the way it was before being dug up.
@IronMikeMetaldetecting
@IronMikeMetaldetecting 7 ай бұрын
Yeah that is probably what happened. People do make a mess of things and screwing it up for others. But metal detecting there was probably useless anyway. Would have loved to have dug out that gasmask canister spot. I'll bet there are some decent ones underneath the toplayer
