I really like the way that the start of this track sounds like you're walking into the middle of a conversation - that these are all themes that you're expected to recognise and appreciate already. I find myself listening again and again to the first 5 minutes, and to the ten minutes from 25:00 to 35:00 (with the Rachmaninov-like bells at the end).

Hey what happened at 1:59? Is it a Viola? Is it a bug flying? Or it is someone singing?

Am I the only one genuinely left emotionally indifferent to shai's playing on that tune? (I don't mean to criticize his obvious talent or relevance - I even own a few of his albums - and I've been playing the piano for years with interest in any jazz piano player especially Jarrett and Mehldau - more of the latter in that song with the sparse pedal an intricate left hand... just that weirdest feel which makes me wonder if I should seek treatment)

Personally I've fallen in love with this piece since I listened to it for the first time a few days ago, I think it strikes a rare balance between virtuosity and emotional impact, and I'm a huge fan of Jarrett and Mehldau as well. It's all a matter of taste in the end, but to be honest if you are not moved in the slightest by this piece I do find it a bit concerning…

Wow, great work in transcribing this one, incredible. I'd love to see 'Kyoto part 1' transcribed although have worked out the first bit with that atmospheric diminished flat 9 vibe over the pedal to start with :-)

I just love this channel! When I discovered Jarrett/ Mehldau/ Corea etc. in my teens I never imagined that someday I would be able to get a glimpse into how their music is created. Now I can follow along and even replay some of my favorite tunes. This is just so cool! Thanks for your work, Michael! I have already bought more transcriptions than I will ever be likely to play. I hope you can continue doing this for a very long time.

I am always excited what you are going to transcribe next! Great stuff! One of the tunes I love of Keith Jarrett, is the Jaki Byard tune: Chandra, off his album: At The Deer Head Inn. He goes so “out” on this tune! {Sure you will get to this tune one day!}

Can also definitely hear the influence of Paul Bley in his playing on this tune :)
