I'll never forget this was the first Keane I heard. 10AM on some Thursday in 2012 at work. I put it on repeat and listened to nothing else but this song all the way through the weekend. It meant something wasn't right with my life. I spent the next 6 months puzzling through the wreckage that this song and other works that Keane put me through. I have to laugh since these days Tom loves to get on stage and talk about their music making people "happy" or giving hope. I think he should talk to Tim a bit more about this, for a second opinion!

During the 80's all of his friends were dying from A.I.D.S. the gay community had a fatalistic attitude of impending doom and his music reflected this.

I hate to tell him it's all self referential homoerotic imagery by a bisexual pioneer of "gay" rock.

i hope you have gone back and listened to the full album this song came from, "amused to death". it's about how we have turned war into a form of sick entertainment. you got a lot of the meaning from this one song, but the album as a whole will really make you think.

Moz is still going, although be prepare for Moz as a person. Andy Rouke is no longer with us., and is unlikely the rest of the band will ever get together. Listen to "You've got everything now" is a great song

I loved that it was "for Neil," and in his absence, there was no percussion. It's simply amazing. I'm a lifelong RUSH fan, and I don't typically enjoy covers, particularly of my favorite band. This is next level. Cheers to you all. Incredible. ❤

Look at the liner notes for Who Do We Think We Are - there's a segment of a newspaper article about British mountain climbers taking Deep Purple tapes with them on an expedition - think that might be the origin of this song lyric wise.
