If you want to keep the original mounting brackets Gibraltar makes a 3/4 tom arm that is compatible although the memory lock doesn't fit. I just got one of these tom arms for Sonor performer beech 12 tom. I'm short one floor tom leg bracket so I'm using an INDe br2 bracket. Sonor parts are expensive and hard to come by in my part of the United States.

Awesome video here! Congratulations for the in depth analysis. Allthough this is the most scientific video of all. If you'll want to revisit this in the future, i recommend that the shells would be made from an isotropic material such as Acrylic or steel/brass/aluminum. Wood is an anisotropic material and even if very similar, it can vary in density and rigidity. Also, for the heads and tuning, maybe a Tama Drum dial ( tension) and a Tune -Bot would likely be more precise as of the tension and pitch. Again, congrats!

This is the best video I've yet found on drum sound on KZfaq, absolutely brilliantly done- thank you so much. I have subscribed to lend at least a little support your work and your channel.

Thanks a lot for the nice feedback and for the subscription! If I may recommend a channel on drum sound: "www.youtube.com/@SoundsLikeADrum" Their whole channel basically is dedicated to drum sound and their videos are much more professional compared to ours. But we try to offer our unique little package with more "hands on" drum restoration and custom work :)

What type of wax do you use? Super Nice kit!

We use minwax wipe on poly - on this kit it was the matt one I think, but they also make a glossy one which we often use

Da is in jedem Fall mehr drin....
@stdrumsgmbh2 ай бұрын

I’ve been collecting Phonic and Phonic Plus ‘orphan’ drums for a couple of years and refinishing them all to resemble the ebony finish. Can anyone comment on the sound difference from the Phonic Plus to the Signature Heavy Beech?
@gcorriveau68643 ай бұрын
That was fascinating and educational - especially how the round and 60 edges were later adjusted further with different heads. Thanks for doing all this.

I just found your channel by accident as I am experimenting with a project to convert an old snare drum into a pancake snare and maybe also a 'frame' drum with the left-over shell. That's a very cool restoration. Have you ever renewed an old Trixon kit? I must go to your page and look.
@stdrumsgmbh3 ай бұрын
Yes sometimes we also work on Trixon kits, but recently not so much because they are pretty rare, however we might have a chance to make a Trixon video in the future ;)

Why does it need to be wrapped? The natural wood with stain and lacquer looks and sounds better without junk suppressing the sound.

Was würde das in etwa kosten für eine von mir bereitgestellte 16“ ludwig breakbeat BD, bleibt die folierung intakt ? (exkl. Versand innerhalb Deutschlands)
@stdrumsgmbh3 ай бұрын

Over the past couple of days I’ve realised how big an impact the bearing edge has on the sound. Also that important to maintain the edge over time, ensure it’s still keeping its form and is even.

I have a sonor designer set and I bought 3 additional Toms from a music shop in California to add to the set. Unfortunately, you can't buy hardware to hold those tom-toms. I had to jury rig my own hardware with a welding torch and some hardware store stock steel. It works fine , however , I was wondering if one can use the newer sq2 hardware so that it could mount on existing sonor designer tom so I can use a newer sonor stand as is without my jury rigged mounts.
@stdrumsgmbh3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I think the tomarms of the SQ2 are a bit thinner. But on reverb you can still find designer tomarms from time to time. They are not cheap, but in Germany they come up to the market regularly. BTW we are currently working on a long video like this one, just about the designer series😉
@krusher743 ай бұрын
Just the use of an electric screwdriver or drill can get the tension rods quickly on and off, you can use a flathead screwdriver bit. (Or ST could make a key that fits a sonor slotted head and a drill/screwdriver chuck) Tunebot/drum dial are great tools that take the headache out of tuning. There are even good phone apps

Are you aware????.... that the rack tom's lower shell edge is right on top of the snare stand and with no lower structural support of that drum's shell (since it's an open concert tom- no hoop/head) will cause that drum shell to warp(even possibly crack or weaken) just from playing it in this position. You claim to have wisdom in buying drums, and from another drummer who's played and collected for nearly a 1/2 Century - I'd think twice about buying it or anything else from you. That's something you'd see someone who's oblivious to maintaining a drum set would engage in, and from anyone who's ever dealt with buying drums that have a warped or weakened shell.......I won't even go there
@stdrumsgmbh3 ай бұрын
The video was uploaded 11 months ago and is 24 minutes long - at least give us the timestamp of the drum you are talking about, I am not aware of a concert tom on a snarestand in any of our videos, so please let me know what you mean. Also we don't claim to "have wisdom"... I don't know where you have that sentence from.

17:38- It's to bad you couldn't have reproduced these mufflers. Drums today don't have these and in my opinion made a great addition. With a change in music style in a single performance, you could change the sound of the drum using these. For the Gretsch drums they were called tone controls, but were really just muffles for the heads.
@stdrumsgmbh4 ай бұрын
thanks for the comment! Many sets on the used market have the mufflers removed because people use them I guess, so if you want to restore a kit with the original mufflers, they can be quite pricey now. As far as I know the original signatures had these external mufflers that were clipped to the hoops and muffled the head from outside. Theoretically they could also be added to this performer set 😁
@chrish73364 ай бұрын
@@stdrumsgmbh I have heard that Kits were being manufactured without them any more because the hardware supposedly reduced the sound of the drums as well as added rattles as they wore out/loosened. Plus, drummers were finding other ways to muffle the heads that were cheaper even if not as good lookin. Also didn't allow flexibility of different music styles. I will agree, the cost to replace any of them any more is high.

1:50- The Gold Satin, it definitely was a German look and had the same appearance as another German designed Drum company. Gretsch. These Satin Flame covers were found on Gretsch in Blue, white, Aqua, Yellow, Green, etc.

yes, these satin colors are really cool! We also sold quite a few of these wraps in the 90s, however they are scratched pretty easily unfortunately
