the twisty cane addition flattened our gorgeously btw. ive made twisty cane of many varieties in furnace work, i know youre not exactly happy with the results but i think its great, and if you ever wanna chop off a rectangle and roll it onto a blowpipe that could be really neat too. keep up the great work!

i wanna full melt a big weave like this til its a homogenous billet in a dammed mold, then cut squares off that and stack them on end, then cut tiles off that for a furnace work rollup. ill bet thatd be dizzyingly detailed. this came out amazing and gives me a TON of ideas. thanks for sharing!!

Why do you need to buy Liquid Stringer? Couldn't you use a cheaper alternative, such as Aloe Vera, or even water?

Loved the video. I prefer the frit down as well. Did you try this with the frit design and just plain tecta sheets on top instead of the strips (that I would need to cut)
@moltenworksglassstudio8810
@moltenworksglassstudio8810 Ай бұрын
I have not tried that, but definitely would work too. Not sure how well the frit would stick under the glass with a solid piece. The strips allow for more air flow and heat to reach underneath.

Where did you get the rod? Was it something you can buy at Lowe’s or Home Depot?
@moltenworksglassstudio8810
@moltenworksglassstudio8810 Ай бұрын
I bought it at a metal supply store. I'm sure you might find something at Home Depot, it just has to be stainless steel to work. In the future I would do bigger rod or tubing to get deeper waves in the strips to fit larger glass when I go to weave it.

I’m new to the fused glass art world and trying to incorporate my acrylic painting into the glass world. I used Glassline paint to create a 11” plate and accidentally broke a small piece off the clear top piece. Can I still fire the pieces of 96 COE glass and simply glue the edge of the small broken piece or do I need to cut a new piece. Thanks for all the great instructional videos as it has inspired me to experiment.

Are you trying to fix the break before firing it again? Or is it already shaped?
@danmitchell1143

Thanks for the reply. Had a small piece at the edge of an 11” round clear piece. I ended up glueing the edges and then bubble squeezing the piece. Fired perfectly, and I can’t detect the original cracked piece.@@moltenworksglassstudio8810

I noticed that you do not wash your pieces before you fire them. Finger prints can ruin a piece of fired glass!

What's the paper that you use to prevent the glass to fuse with the kiln? Could we use regular paper?
@moltenworksglassstudio8810
@moltenworksglassstudio8810 6 ай бұрын
I use bullseye thin fire paper. Regular paper cannot be used. This paper is specifically for kiln use and is a ceramic bonded material that turns to powder after one use. I use this instead of kiln wash which would also work and is cheaper.

Hi , I've only just "discovered your channel & I'm hooked !! So generous to show & explain all these different techniques. I'm a potter for many many years, & a while ago I attended a one day glass fusing workshop, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I've bought a couple of books on the subject but find some of the explanations "as clear as mud"... Anyway I have a question which I've asked previously on a couple of other "glass fusing" groups, & never received a proper answer Can I crush up some coloured glass bottles ( as in your video) & use that in between ( or under ) layers of plain 3mm window glass ?? thanks in advance, Annie
@moltenworksglassstudio8810
@moltenworksglassstudio8810 6 ай бұрын
Glad it’s helpful! In terms of using window glass and bottle glass, they are not tested compatible meaning they may not fuse together. Bottle glass can usually be fused with itself but nothing else. This is because fused glass is tested compatible meaning it expands and contracts at the same rate when heated. Otherwise it will crack.

How are you breaking your glass sheet after you score it. It seems to just magically break on it’s own. What am I missing?
@moltenworksglassstudio8810

Haha it’s magic! Just kidding, I’m using a runner tool to break it once I score. It helps I’ve been cutting glass for a long time too.

Thank you for sharing. On the first two panels, what was the firing schedule? Are those two panels approximately 3 mm thick?
@moltenworksglassstudio8810
@moltenworksglassstudio8810 9 ай бұрын
The schedule was a tack fuse. Make sure you know what temp your kiln runs at for that. My schedule was: 250-1000-0 9999-1390-8 9999-950-60 200-800-0 250-100-0 Yes the panels are about 3mm thick once fired, I started on 2mm glass. Then, when I fire it on another base all together, I use a 3mm clear to set the strips on. Hope this helps and happy fusing!

Both are great and I agree that the one with the frit on bottom is best. I would have never thought about putting frit underneath the glass. It might be cool to see what it would look like if you put frit on both the top and bottom. Maybe using complementary colors instead of the same colors?
