So wait, it prioritizes self-destruct and explosion if it's the trainer's last Pokemon? That doesn't make sense to me. Isn't the goal of a battle to win? So why use a move that would guarantee your defeat? To try to take the opponent down with you for a tie? For the most part, I'm very confused...

What about the selfdestructing hiker in R/B/Y? Did I miss something or was his AI specifically programmed differently?

Even as a casual player I can recognize the cheating in that TAS run for off road. Anyone who has played Mariokart for 5 minutes can tell you off road destroys your speed even if you barely touch it, regardless of your vehicle type. The only way (sort of) around it is with a mushroom, and even then you still feel it.

As easy as it is to just go "gen 1 broken lol", it's really impressive to see how complex gen 2 and especially gen 3 AI is. Stuff like encouraging status on a Guts ally, or encouraging skill swap with Truant in play is amazing.

I remember once, when I was playing Pokemon Yellow, I spammed Thunder against Agatha, and then during one of the turns, she withdrew her Pokemon and then sent out Golbat, which is WEAK to electric-type moves! More of a reason why Agatha is a good candidate for my least favorite Elite Four member.

I always thought the moves pokemon had were manually set for their areas. I didn't realize the game actually generated their moves each time based on their level in that stack order. This changes things a lot for me. I always thought the level up move list was weird in it's ordering. Now I know that it was probably a concious decision for that algorithm. Now the phone system in gen 2 makes a lot more sense. Since the trainers you get the numbers from can get stronger over time, you do in fact get to see that system in action!

Ive always loved that the jugglers are specifically coded to juggle their team by swapping frequently. I wish they would give more personality to trainer classes like this.

Long time ago, I was playing with my nephew and tried to do the ramp jump on Royal Raceway to land on the left side of the track, I slammed into the slope and fell underwater, but somehow, Lakitu picked me up and placed me on the top of the left hill. We were so surprised by it that we had no reaction, and then later, Lakitu placed me on the finish line. I never did that again, Lakitu always placed me on the track near the finish line curve. Seeing your video made me remember this.

Aw man I've got good hacker memories from 2009/2010, gave people free TC glitches and exclusively picked tracks with offroad and no cannon, always got last with the 35000vr hack so everyone got a TON of VR just for playing along :) Got hit with the 20102 code but I did get unbanned and never hacked after that. The Black TAS scandal, on the other hand, was pretty devastating. But the TAS community nowadays has been incredible - so thank you to the people who commit to making them ❤

He's lucky he got out when he did. Given what the mods discovered and that there was money on the line, this could have ended with him receiving charges of attempted fraud. I'm going to guess he knew this and decided to bow out when he got to close to the fire. At the very least, he realized any winning run would be scrutinized to death before bounties were distributed and then he would be in a real legal pickle.

When a person asked for justification and proof offers explanations that can't be verified or disproven, it's always sus. The world runs on logic and the scientific method to determine what is true, or most probable to use more specific language. You can always assume someone is lying when they refuse to provide evidence that is observable, repeatable, and falsifiable.

I don't know why people think they can fake speed runs or runs in general. There's an entire community dedicated to finding the truth for this stuff.

Honestly, I don't think modifying the hardware should be allowed. I'm okay with glitches, because they're part of the game's programming. Modifying the hardware isn't far removed from just using a Game Genie.

wish there was a way of playing VS CPU in this game without doing a full GP, there's a code for the NTSC-U version but I find they slip up a lot due to always being on screen, and it sometimes feels like their physics were coded with an older version of the game in mind (the Bowser Castle spiral comes to mind which they can take at full speed unlike the player) NTSC-J voices are better btw just because of how unpolished and janky they are 😂

I was having trouble with a gym leader in Black until I realized that he would spam Bulk Up forever until you damaged him for the first time. So I counter-spammed Sand Attack and Tail Whip until I had a healthy advantage.

10:22 I'm not a speedrunner, but I do have a some thoughts here. Is there any way to jump on the smiley spring in such a way that it doesn't activate like it's suppose to? Or maybe you could find a glitch that triggered the barrel to fall from that side somehow, or find a way to get out of bounds. Maybe going in and out of the menu screen at a certain time could trigger a glitch that could lead to something. If so, even if whatever you discovered didn't help you here specifically, it could lead to a major breakthrough elsewhere. You just have to try literally anything you can think of until you hit on something.

they could also fixed the lorine softlock via making rest only have the 10 or 15 uses for the NPC as well but dont think npcs can drain their moves and use "Struggle" i thinkt hey can in gen 4 and above tho? not sure.

now that this info is out how the moves work when replaced with npcs and wild pokemon, wonder if anyone yt gonna do a "play like npcs" challange in pokemon, and have a random wheel that they use select the move everytime?

i had a special softlock that might be here on youtube made a "classic edition" rom for fire red that trys to restore the classical components from old red and blue. like some asthetics changes and artificialy in its own way remaking some the glitches but in a diffrent way. unfortinatly i near finished it was doing youtube videos on it and on the easy plant gym in casino city, the soft lock happens right when beat the gym leader of the plant gym you turn into an NPC and cant escape, i tried making it diggable and flyable, giving the NPC max 99Y and 99X movement and still couldent escape, the rom hack was basicaly trash where a GARENTEED softlock would happen. i belive its becuase i was an idiot and used the 1.1 instead the 1.0 rom so now if i want to do it i would have to remake it from SCRATCH once again using the 1.0 unless theres a 1.1 to 1.0 transfer program...... altho i myself dont know if have the rom anymore or trashed it. now i wonder how could restore some more to gen 3 to make it like gen 1 if i do decide to re-make it bigger and better.
