I think this conversation is one that needs to happen. Like you said, the problems with modern pop music are indicative of a bigger issue. Food and music are now being controlled by big corporations and the people at the top. Pop music is an industry now, and it wants to strip the autonomy away from musicians and music-consumers. This is a major problem, especially to me as someone who loves music as both a producer and a listener, and sees music as an ARTFORM before anything else. I’m a naturally curious person who loves to learn, so I always try to dig deep for great music. Great music is everywhere around the world, but the industries don’t want to showcase any of that, so it’s up to us to find it, to try to understand it, to empathize with it, and to learn from it. I think a truly developed artist is, more often than not, a truly developed person. I don’t like being passively spoon-fed products, I like actively searching for art. Great video, Patrick! ❤

Oh - I do love a clear-speaking person with an opinion!!! First words HAVE to go to Frank Zappa: Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny! And that, sadly, is the basis for the problem you are discussing. Its ALL about the money!! Sadly - in fact, VERY sadly, jazz just doesn't make any. Put Sam Smith on the bill, and you get customers who want to spend a lot of it. So as someone who has spent the last 50 years obsessing about jazz, this is a terrible situation for me, personally. I have even complained to Claude Nobs himself when he was around, about this very problem at Montreux. Too many "Jazz" festivals have gone weak at the knees, but if they didn't, there wouldn't be the money to pay the jazz dudes. And frankly, the jazz dudes are the ones who deserve the money most, I feel. So how obsessed am I with Jazz? Well, a little (and totally true) story. I was producing. the Dire Straits European. Tour back in the early 1990's. I was standing on stage one evening with the band as they were rehearsing, and realised that Joe Zawinul (my MASSIVE hero in life - even named my son after him) was performing that night in Paris, France. I JUMPED SHIP and went to France for the gig (not before finding a stand-in for the evening, of course!!) My mates thought i had gone totally insane: being with Dire Straits, but wanting to go to a small jazz club in Paris to hear some guys they had never heard of. So - bringing this to completion - yes - I "discovered" you through the Scott Kinsey universe, and look forward hearing more when it is released!!

Great job Patrick. I really enjoyed this video. I've been following you since middle school. Melton Mustapha use to always talk about how great you were. I however, never heard you on the clarinet. I know its wonderful. That's my first instrument I started on. But, I needed to make money and nobody was using clarinet in their band so I had to switch to saxophone. Been doing saxophone now for 47 years. People love me but you , my friend are beyond all expectations of what a sax player should sound like. I thank our heavenly Father Yahweh for you making this video and may He continue to bless you in this musical journey. Be blessed. Shalom Alecheim.
