It’s fascinating that in the Ahsoka series, Anakin essentially describes himself as “whatever the Galaxy needs him to be”. He had no say in the matter from the very beginning.

Anakin's meeting with Obi-Wan in the after-life was quite emotional in Legends. In this continuity, Anakin hears Obi-Wan's voice just after dying. Anakin sadly tells him how much he regrets his actions, to which Kenobi responds: "Anakin, shut up if you don't want your spirit to be forever lost in the Realm of the Force. I have one last lesson for you." And that's how the Chosen One knew how to become a Force ghost and see his children again 🥲

Anakin in Legends also asked Obi-Wan why should he deserve the gift of immortality since all of the horrible things he did as Vader. Obi-Wan basically said that it’s because he was the Chosen One and that he was wrong to doubt him. Very touching scene.

This is why Anakin Skywalker is my personal favorite Jedi. And why Darth Vader is my personal favorite Sith. We are not born great, we all made mistakes and poor choices. Anakin/Vader is a symbol of the good and bad of human nature.

The only people I blame for Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side are Mace Windu and Palpatine. Anakin didn’t chose the Dark Side; he was manipulated by Palpatine all the time. As for Windu, I blame him because he represents everything wrong about the Jedi Council and the Order itself. Anakin worked so painstakingly hard for them and everyone else….but almost NOBODY likes to give a fuck about anything except themselves.

I actually like this canon version it makes sense that Anakin the chosen one would be able to do stuff like become a force ghost through sheer willpower and that not even the force itself would be able to stop him. And after death was finally able to learn the lessons he never could in life and that he actually did genuinely regret everything he did. I also like the fact that his first thought after dying was to defy death through sheer willpower and find a way to save the galaxy and write the wrongs he committed and that nothing could not even the force itself would stand in his way. That's exactly the kind of mindset I would expect from Anakin in that scenario.

I wonder if they were able to repair their relationship in the afterlife. After Obi-Wan reunited with his Padawan as a force ghost, I'd imagine they have a lot of catching up to do and they might repair their friendship since Luke redeemed his father.

I think I’m legends or a noval, I’m not sure exactly which one, Anakin began to apologize for everything that he did and obi wan helped him become a force ghost before he died completely. To me this is important because obi wan still cared about anakin even after the events that happened. Anakin let go and forgave himself so obi wan had to do the same.

Not sure if it’s addressed, but I love the small detail that Anakin’s force ghost is of an age when he was most pure and not elderly, even though Obi’s ghost is when he’s older. As if your force ghost is of your purest moment in the light

The least they could have done is change the entire ghost rather than attach a head to the old body. And maybe not butchered the entire saga as well (Disney is awesome). He also should be a different force ghost, as he did not train with Yoda at the Wellsprings in Clone Wars. Twisted, that is. @@Gabu_

I’ll admit it brought a tear to my eye Anakin recognizing the mistakes he made and the regret that washed over him while Obi-wan listening and comforting Anakin helping him realize while he made mistakes those do not erase so easily but neither does the good deeds he achieved in life either and his ultimate sacrifice to save his son and the galaxy were his and he should forgive himself as he and Luke have. Luke and Leia representing the best of Anakin and Padme, continuing the Skywalker name and forging their own path in the galaxy

Man I can tell you when I watched this scene on it's opening day in May 1983, Anakin's death scene on the death star in front of Luke was very solemn and emotional. I can remember hearing some people crying and some moans from the crowd in the theater that day. I myself was also feeling the sadness so overwhelming that to this day in this year 2023 I still feel the same as I did 40 years ago. What an incredible story and powerful saga!! Thank you George Lucas. I seriously doubt anything will ever rival the entire Star Wars saga!!

Indeed. I consider Obi-Wan to be the most pivotal character in the franchise, just slightly above Anakin and Luke - I'd probably call him the central character if I had to pick just one, as it's his actions that have the greatest impact and cause a chain reaction leading to Anakin turning to the dark side as well as the (indirect) fall of the Republic. Impatient but willing to learn as a Padawan (typical folly of youth), strict and inflexible as a Jedi master (a responsible adult) and eventually becoming more lenient and laidback in his older years while remaining caring and sympathetic to those close to him.

This is similar but somwhat different to the legends version of how Anakin became a force ghost with the difference being that in legends Obi-wan taught him how communicate with the living while in canon Anakin seems to have become a force ghost through his sheer will and power in the force without anyone's help.

I'm guessing the Legends version may have been from before the prequels were out? If so I like how either scenario makes sense depending on whether it's before or after the story established that Anakin was the Chosen One with immense Force potential. Without that detail Obi-Wan probably would have had to step in and help his friend, meanwhile now it makes sense that Anakin would have had the power on his own in death to face oblivion and say "not today."

I like the interpretation that Anakin's time as Vader was necessary for the downfall of Palpatine, and that this was also the will of the living force. It's only after decades of obedience, instances of rebellion, followed again by even more adherent obedience that would convince Palatine that Vader was completely subservient. Palpatine was so convinced, that the possibility never entered his mind that Vader would intervene, even as his son was being killed in front of him.

Also the story arcs of Leia, Luke, and the Rebel Alliance. It was a force that could finally challenge Palpatine. Nothing until then was really a threat to him, well at least after order 66.

It is not surprising that after experiencing under the pernicious influence of Palpatine, who broke his life, Anaken eventually snapped at the dark teacher all the anger accumulated over the years, taking revenge on him for all the pain and suffering experienced by that kind boy)). He really did a good job that he found the strength to finally save himself from the slavery he hated. Especially since he saved Luke's future from a similar fate.

Heavy disagree. He had a horrible life, true,but his choices were always his own. He simply fell into a trap and his own actions were the cause. I love Anakin, but he was the man who made all the wrong choices. He was a good man who chose evil for love, bit became evil by doing so. He did not have to chose these actions. He could have trusted the force but did not.

This was a growing moment for Obi-Wan and Yoda, as well as Anakin. Before and after death, Obi-Wan referred to Anakin as a lost cause, totally unredeemable. Yoda echoed similar thoughts, seeing Luke killing his father as the only option. Anakin's actions proved both of them wrong, and it's clear that Obi-Wan, out of the two, learned and accepted that no one is beyond redemption. Yoda's thoughts on this are less clear, but he shows no animosity towards Anakin's ghost, so he must have come to terms with this on some level.

Dont forget, Yoda and Obi-Wan probrably felt responsible for making Anakin choose the dark side in ROTS. So itd be very hypocritical for either of them to criticise Anakin for his action after how badly he was mistreated and how much he had lost between TPM and ROTS, which is likely Obi-Wan somewhat realised in ROTS with 'I have failed you' but definately realised after he died. I hope we find out more about Anakin/Obi-Wan/Yoda as force ghosts.

I noticed that he never found Padmé in the force. The whole reason he turned to the dark side was because he wanted to save her and destroyed her in the process. He lost her and lost himself. It's just interesting that their romance wasn't explored further after Anakin became one with the force. I think an apology to her would carry the same weight as his apology to Obi-Wan.

Padme didn’t have a connection to the force like Jedi did. So she’d never become a force ghost or apart of it. Which makes it sad when you think about it. He never got to apologize, or to see his wife again. She died for good, and there was truly no way to bring her back or to see her. So he’d have to live both his actual life and after life without the woman he loved.

nobody is gone forever. I imagine Padme's soul might go on its path as long as she learns how to connect to the force. Might be in another life in another body in another world. But her and Anakin will meet again. And then they ...really need to talk about some thing I guess@@levenderscent

@@levenderscent but every souls go to thé same place force sensitive or Not we can see that the spirit of padme still exist in the netherworld when he tries to bring her to life on mustaphar so when anakin goes to the netherworld of the force he can see her Also it was said in cannon that after ben solo death he reunites with his family and george Lucas confirmed a few years ago that they were reunited in the netherworld of the force

This really fits well with the lesson Anakin taught Ahsoka later on in her show. People are complicated, black and white thinking is what got them to their lowest points. You have to accept the past and keep moving forward.

I know it’d never happen but I would literally cry if Ani and Obi together as force ghosts met with Ahsoka. That would just make me a sobbing mess. I do how we see Force Ghost Anakin reunite with Luke though at some point in the Mandoverse. 🧡

You could say the force ghost of Anakin or spirit already appear to Ahsoka in episode 5, there are many hints it was just not a vision, like when Ahsoka say I wont fight you and Anakin I heard that before and that is something Luke told him or how Jacen hear everything.

Very moving. It goes deeper into what happened in the afterlife for Anakin and explains how the three of them were able to be together in the afterlife and Luke could see them.

There's only ONE error in describing Anakin in the beginning, when was NOT without fear, in fact since Yoda and the Counsel spoke to him in the beginning as a kid, it was noticed that he was always full of Fear. And it was this fear that led him to the Dark Side, for "Fear is the path to the Dark Side" In all of his time as he became Asohka's teacher, he was always manifesting fear for something, and his impulsive actions were in fact always filled with a different fear. Darth Sidious in fact used Anakin's fears and fed them to seed distrust (another type of fear). This was his downfall, all because of his fear, but he let go of his Fear when he saw Luke getting attacked, in essence it was Luke's own Fearlessness that Anakin had reflected on his purpose. Luke was Powerful because his love, compassion and real lack of Fear made Anakin climb back to the Light Side. Luke was the Catalyst for his father's role, his Return to the Jedi.

The hero without fear moniker was one the citizens of the Republic gave him during the clone wars. He and Obi Wan essentially became celebrities on the Republic holonet, due to their many successful campaigns. The Novelisation of episode 3 describes how he accepts the nickname as he represents hope for a lot of people, but deep down he dislikes it as he feels nothing but fear.

As the other reply said, the “Hero With no Fear” was the Republic’s holonet title for Anakin, both for his many victories in the Clone Wars as well as Palpatine’s manipulation of the media to boost skywalker’s public image. It originally was used in the Revenge of the Sith novelization and was used again in this book as a reference to his heroic days.

The problem is just, that Anakins fear was never the problem. Fear is a natural emotion, and Yoda and the counsel were very ignorant by not accepting this. It laid the foundation for Palpatine to manipulate Anakin. Because he was the only one that seemed to really care for Anakins feelings. Luke also was not fearless. But since there was no Jedi order to block any unwanted emotions, he worked through it. He had his friends that supported him and his inner compass that he followed. Something Anakin was never allowed to do. Luke learned this lesson after so many Jedi have failed. He even got wiser than Yoda himself I would say.

So. If either Anakin or Obi-Wan had hired Ani's mother, or at least bought our her slave contract. He might have never turned to the Dark Side? Imagine a timeline where Anakin buys his Mother's freedom. Shmi gets hired on as an attendant to Padme. A much needed grounding presence for Ani and a moral compass. A trusted ear for Padme and hopefully a wise grandmother to Luke and Leia Skywalker. Damn, what could have been.

Leia had no need of Anakin as a long lost father. Unlike Luke, Leia had a father and mother - Bail Organa and his wife. And she would never forgive Vader for his part in their deaths.

2 things: 1.) whoa. I did not know the story existed, and just hearing a summary of it hit me deeply. Wow. 2) who here wanted to hear that story of Anakin‘s ghost, somehow subverting the will of the force, and somehow still impacting the universe via his force ghost with possibly greater impact then he had as Darth Vader? That was a scary friggen thought.

Well I doubt that this was against the will of the Force. It was probably just a choice he had, to fade away into the Force or carry on as a ghost to make amends and fight for justice. It’s just like the choice he told Ahsoka to make.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Btw, this is an excellent video and it further shows that even under the dark armour of Vader, Anakin was truly one of the most tragic figures in all of fiction, and only wanted to save those he loved, only for others to manipulate and use him for their own ends, basically being a slave for his whole life regardless of who he served. I'm glad stuff like this shows Anakin was never pure evil, like some idiots say because of his crimes that he regretted deeply, as he never truly was evil. He just needed help and love, not distrust or deception.

Anakin is both hero and villain, and the protagonist in a chain of events that profoundly changed the Galaxy. In the end, everything culminated in fulfilling the role he was meant: The one who would bring balance to the force. By slaying both jedi and sith, and forcing a change in what both cultures had become, the force once again became what it is meant to be and influence the galaxy. By serving the force or not, he remained its agent.

Interesting and makess you wonder if the reason Obi-wan died so easily in their final fight was actually part of his plan. Like he knew vader/anakin was going to die and Obi-wan wanted to be there for him to guide him and help him in the afterlife in a way he was never able to when Anakin was still alive.

That would make sense. The very last thing Obi-Wan sees before being stuck down is Leia & Luke reunited for the first time. He smiles, closes his eyes & prepared to become one with the Force. Maybe at that exact moment he knew that Anakin's children may redeem him & being him back to the Light Side of the Force

One of the greatest acts Anakin did in his final moments was to give hope back to the galaxy by exposing himself to fatal injury in order to save the life of the one who would bring back freedom. That is why Luke MUST be allowed to life and rise as a character if all the previous films are to have any sort of meaning. Disney's spinoff shows are up for debate, but their "sequels" are simply not canon.

I love Star wars, but I do not have the most critical thinking when it comes to media, I don't when it is the best time for a show movie series or something like that to end, but this book made me feel like Star Wars should have ended with episode six, and no sequels should have been made. Now this just feeling that got. I haven't made up my mind if this is my actual opinion. I do enjoy some canon squel content and alot of the legends content that takes place after the return of the jedi.

@jackbrennan1125 Yeah, but like in the sense that she is not a tangible being anymore. They would be together, but they wouldn't even know they were together if that makes sense. They would feel each other there, but because you are one with the force along with the rest of the dead, they would probably not even notice. That is kinda tragic to me. It's a different idea of what I believe is an afterlife.

I’ve read the novel the rise and fall of darth vader, and this isn’t quite how it happened, it’s been quite a while since I read it but I remember that Anakin was actually about to go into the nether of the force, but then Obi wan reached out his hand and saved him, and then anakin started to tell him that he’s really sorry and that he hopes obi wan can forgive him, and then obi wan says of course he can because Anakin has redeemed himself and done the prophecy of restoring peace to the galaxy, and then teaches him to be a force ghost, Haha so yeah but I guess there’s many books with theories, but the rise and fall of darth vader is my canon :)

The reason that disney will endlessly shit out as much star wars content as they can (other than money), something that they dont understand about star wars as a whole, is that its a redemption story for Anakin Skywalker, thats what star wars is, its a study on the ability of one person to be both a hero and a villian, and where one can turn into a villian, the hero that they really are will never truly die, finally being able to see in the children they bring into the world be not only like them, but be better than them and be proud of what they have accomplished. Anakin Skywalker is maybe one of the best characters ever put to screen and I'll always love the amazing story that he tells, even though disney made a terrible trilogy of films and many bad tv shows that miss the entire point of george lucas' original vision, some of the stuff they've made does indeed help to make Anakin an even deeper and more nuanced character and i appreciate that I do have to say, thank god for fan edits than help do Anakins story proper justice

Episodes 7 to 9 the Disney necanon. Lucas wanted to make other arcs: about Anaken, Luke and their descendants. It's a pity that the franchise rights went to the crooked mouse house, which ruined everything. In the comics, Palpatine returned by applying the ancient ritual of the Sikhs. He had three clones that eventually couldn't stand his power. And with the death of the latter, the main villain died completely before reaching true immortality.
