ECDIS and PPUs are always good tools for docking. That's why onboard big ships there's always an ECDIS on the wing of the bridge for captains and pilots in narrow and shallow waters use PPUs. So how come it's historical information ℹ️ 😮

how bank effect should be handled is controversial among mariners. Some say ship speed should be reduced little by little with full rudder angle towards the bank. This should contribute to take more control of the vessel as it also reduced squat effect in shallow waters. The other method which is the opposite :) is what you mentioned what mariners call kick-ahead technique. Kick-ahead means engine full ahead at once (increasing speed) with full rudder angle towards the bank. which method is correct and why? and yes, for sure Ever Given run had a strong bank effect!

Thanks for good understanding about twin engine effect. I expect to embark on twin engine vessel this time. So I am worried about method of using engine.

How many noodles were used total?
@samteel4848
@samteel4848 Жыл бұрын
Oh man, sorry for not answering sooner. We use about two dozen noodles in most cases. Hint: Get the bigger ones. Better to have a few extras then to be a few short. Just did another one yesterday with a neighbor's new lift. Worked really well as usual.

Sir it was an amazing presentation. However if it is a small ship overtaking a large one or a same size ship overtakes another one of allmost same dimensions how will interactions play it's role? Hope to learn more from you. Once again thank you very much
@samteel4848
@samteel4848 2 жыл бұрын
Shawn, It will be exactly what you think, a small ship will not have as much "Push" effect on the a large vessel. If they were of equal size I think you would see and experience some level of the interaction effect. Its all about distance between the ships, relative speed of the vessels, and size (displacement).
