The best siren was the one you used when your mate turned left. The LFB should never have phased those ones out.

LFB never had this siren fitted to their appliances, this is an RSG trailblazer siren. LFB had woodway commander 3s on their appliances which sound similar

Wouldn't like to have a heart attack in London though, although I do believe they have bikers as 'first responders' now. Makes it a bit safer. Not good if your posh London apartment was ablaze though!

the professionals Magnum Hawaii 50. All old has been action programs. At least twice he kept the noise going at a red light forcing vehicles to go through against the lights. Protocol is to kill noise but keep lights on and not force people to break the law

Thought these days that all emergency vehicle drivers,are taught to turn off the two tones at red lights and wait,rather than harass motorists to go through red lights in case it panics them, especialy that camera outside euston fire station (i think thats where it was), sad thing is, there is no law expressly giving emergency vehicles a divine right of way,no law to force people out of the way. But i believe there is a law regarding the obstruction of an emergency vehicle. But the video was superb and superb driving also..

Only if other motorists give way, they cannot force people through. There is no law that says they can go through red lights,as there is no law which forces motorists to let them pass, they must treat red traffic lights as give way.if no one gives way then they cant do much,which in my eyes is so wrong,.

It depends on the type of unit, the type of emergency etc. For example, if I was an armed response vehicle responding to a potential terror threat then I'd blast the bullhorn and not give a toss whether they have brown trousers or not, however if I'm an ERT officer responding to a domestic with Mrs Miggings, I'd ease off the tones. Also depends on your driver level, Level 2+ drivers are more equipped to deal with the danger of a motorist panicking, whereas a Level 3 driver is only taught how to do it safely, not necessarily effectively. Hope that answers your question.

Saintly Patience must be a job requirement for London police... with that level of traffic, I would have ground my teeth flat! One thing that would have been nice to see would be for the bus drivers approaching the same intersection as the car on a blue light run, to hold back and give way to the police car.

You may pass through a red light and treat it as a give way if you are the one responding. There is no relaxation of the law for someone who moves through a red light to let you through, in fact not letting you through anywhere is not an offense. I don't know of anyone who has been prosecuted personally but I have heard stories. Certainly a red light camera would trigger a prosecution but you may well be successful in front of the magistrate to use the emergency vehicle as a defense. If you are a responding vehicle our guidelines would be to turn off the audible warning devices and leave the lights on so you don't panic people and push them through into a potentially dangerous situation. Basically what a lot of people have said already!

Ian Leigh Yes. At 7 mins in the drivers go through the reds to allow the emergency vehicle passage. 3 points and £100 fine. There should be an exemption for this. Otherwise no one will move for the emergency services. Good drive all the same and hopefully no tickets issues to the helpful drivers.

sir lost a lot actually no, in certain situations you can go through a red to get out the way .. for example if all ahead is clear - you can clear traffic for the emergency vehicle as well it's definitely situational.

I'm a cop... You go through an automatic red light camera and you'll get a ticket... It is no defence. As a blue light driver you switch off the audible warning equipment so you don't pressure drivers into doing it, then carry on when the way is clear... I'm not arguing, just educating

Roundabout part was fine & she probably jumped the lights because she wanted to get out of the way of the car, same as to why she tried to go around that car in front of her. A lot of people panic when they see lights & sirens so they do anything in a rush to get out of the way, which sometimes puts them in a worse position, such as here. I blame lack of education more than individuals. I have never once been taught how to react to an emergency vehicle, not even on my driving lessons. Have you?
@uzijn
@uzijn 11 жыл бұрын
The only time it's legal to go through a red light is in an emergency (to get out of danger) or if a uniformed police officer directs you through. Other than those two times, you're breaking the law regardless of whether there's an emergency vehicle behind you or not. It's good to see that somebody else knows the craic. I get such dirty looks when I don't move for the police car even though I'd be putting myself & others in danger whilst breaking the law.

It never ceases to amaze me how oblivious some drivers are. Yes, cars are more "soundproof" than they once were, and stereos are louder -- but so are sirens, and the array of blue lights is far more noticeable than the single revolving beacon of days gone by, and still some drivers seem completely unaware of an approaching emergency vehicle.

Never worked for any emergency service have you? trying telling the 1000's of people we've saved by moving effectively to scene. 8 mins is all you've got to try and help someone in cardiac arrest, and even if they aren't calls taken are never accurate so we get there asap anyway incase it is serious.

No he isn't. In the UK emergency vehicle drivers commit an offence(s) once they start pressuring people and/or shouting at them to cross red lights or move in to the path of other vehicles. You can not be prosecuted for standing your ground and refusing to put yourself and others in danger. Drivers are told to switch sirens off if stuck at red lights. You would be amazed at how many emergency vehicle drivers are prosecuted each year, but are not reported in newspapers. Do a FOI request yourself.
@feelitworking
@feelitworking 11 жыл бұрын
CORRECT - anyone driving an emergency vehicle who forces a car to cross a red traffic light or drive in to the path of other traffic WILL be prosecuted. It's dangerous driving and if anyone is killed, it's a prison sentence. In the UK I have seen this a number of times, mainly bad police driving injuring and killing people. The cars had to be fitted with a "black box" data recorder, GPS and video to secure prosecutions. DO NOT put yourself in danger, the emergency vehicle will have to wait.
@feelitworking
@feelitworking 11 жыл бұрын
This is a very poor display of emergency driving. If you did that today you would be prosecuted for dangerous driving. There are a whole catalogue of errors the driver made which leads me to believe he is not a police driver. His driving is not to their standards. It falls way below the standard expected by a competent driver. He puts a number of people in danger and shouldn't be allowed to continue his driving in this manner. I hope the driver is prosecuted before he kills someone.
