You want fans at USA/freestyle events hold them in the greatest wrestling state in the country. Pennsylvanian’s are going to show up!
@NickKosko596 күн бұрын
There's been examples around the country where the fans show up to Senior Level events. Market it right and have a doable schedule, it's a great event. Look at Final X for the most part. Feel like you could re-do the Trials schedule as well for Olympics and make it more fan/wrestler friendly over two+ days.
@jeffsmith30156 күн бұрын
I agree Nick. Love your coverage of this great sport. I understand moving the events around the country to increase exposure. When they get great turnouts in certain parts of the country they should make a concerted effort to revisit those popular areas more frequently. As a PA resident I know that I am biased as to the northeastern portion of the country as a hotbed for wrestling fans.

Give me Kenny, Gibbons, Rock, Tim and JB all day everyday calling the National Tournament. Those guys just all work so well together and make it that much more fun and exciting to listen to. I like DC calling UFC Fights, but no way should ESPN have had him on for 3 days….Oh man he killed me. He didn’t call 90% of the matches and just kept taking over Rock with his stories. I mean his stories had side stories and it was terrible. Then throw in the plugging of his podcast & then about guys from the UFC🤮. Even JB started making fun of him for his flip flopping. I can take one day of DC, but please ESPN, please don’t have him on for 3 freakin days….. Ok enough I know, but I just had to vent how three days of DC was awful.

So what happens when guys decide to enter the transfer portal and they don’t get picked up by another University or College? I don’t hear anyone talking about that. Do they then stay at the University they were trying to leave and then what the heck does that look like??? If they were even on scholarship does that University still have to honor it after they decide to enter it? Or can they just say “ok, you want out, so you’re out” then go out and recruit someone else for that weight and give them that scholarship?? Lots of questions I know, but I don’t hear anyone talking about it and if they did then I missed it.
@NickKosko597 күн бұрын
Their original school is allowed to take them back on scholarship. But it is not required for the school to honor that scholarship once the player/wrestler enters the portal. Every situation is unique if the guy who enters the portal decides to come back
@williamoleary93307 күн бұрын
That would be extremely big of a Coach to take a guy back after entering the Portal, unless it’s someone really big. If you’re not and you enter then I wish you the best of success, but I’m moving on and recruiting your replacement immediately. I was looking on the Portal last night and there are guys on there that are going to find it very difficult to be picked up because they haven’t done anything. The majority of these guys are going to eat some humble pie. They better be prepared to go to a D2 or D3 school if they want to continue wrestling because I have a feeling a lot of them are not going to be on a D1 Roster.

I’m in Oklahoma native and have been following Cowboy wrestling for about 25 years. I went to summer camps with John Smith and his staff in the early 2000s. This is such a huge cultural change. It’s hard for me not to feel sad about it. I think Oklahoma State wrestling fans imagined that the John Smith, Perry family, Eric Guerrero, Coleman Scott contingency would last at Oklahoma State forever. I do think OSU will have more success recruiting with David Taylor. But it is sad to see the end of an era. I would be very curious to hear John Smith’s thoughts about this move. I don’t think he imagined leaving the program and handing it over to a staff of Penn State and NLWC coaches.
@Abettergrappler13 күн бұрын
I'm a former OSU wrestler and I'm ecstatic about this change. All the best dynasties came from change. Gable, Iowa State to Iowa. Cael, Iowa State to Penn. This was needed as the OSU staff was too insulated and it showed the last few seasons. Eric got ran out, Espo left and for the love of God never put Perry in charge. Coleman is just a younger John and him abandoning UNC seems like Karma at this point.
@patrick-okc13 күн бұрын
@@Abettergrappler That makes sense. The more I think on it today, the more excited I get. I needed a minute to get over the shock. I do think DT gives them a shot at stacking their team quickly through the portal. Alirez to OSU would be awesome to see. Should be a fun season!

@GuyFromSC13 күн бұрын
This is absolutely no knock on the great John Smith, but DT is going to bring this program back to excellence. It’s going to be interesting to see how he takes Cael’s approach and uses at OKie State. He’s got major roots down in State College with M2 and his farm but I’m sure he has great people that will help him run that. And think about it, he’s already got one of the best funnels in college wrestling right there in Penn State and he’s going to fill that entire roster up with hammers that’ll make them the second best team in NCAA within 2-3 years max. Book it. Like others have mentioned, this is going to be an easy team to pull for now and I might be their newest biggest fan. 🙏🏼.
