Lifelong Iowa fan here, but John Smith is still my wrestling idol. What a complete stud and credit to US wrestling. Sick fast, sick mean, tenacious and fearless winner. He’s our greatest wrestler. 💪🇺🇸

anyone who love collegiate wrestling both love and have great respect for Iowa and Oklahoma state. both legendary programs. I lived in Oklahoma several years followed the program at OSU but I also love the Brands brothers and the heritage of Dan Gable that Iowa has. Iowa in my opinion is the best home advantage and passionate fans

Very easy argument to make. John Smith has GOAT status for sure.

Oklahoma State alum here. So proud of coach Smith, everything he accomplished, and how he represented OSU and USA. OSU has won more National Championships in wrestling than any other school. It is (was) what we were known for. But our last title was in 2006, and we have been losing our relevance. It galls me to see Penn State have the kind of dominance we used to take for granted. So, it is time for new blood in Stillwater.

This man is an icon for our sport not just in the USA, but worldwide. What he did as an athlete and as a coach is commendable. I met him once in the 90’s and he was a down to earth, humble and willing to sign my wrestling t-shirt😂 I’ve always followed him and admired him, his accomplishments and all his career. Hope lives forever happy in his retired days. John Smith….a true American athlete and role model for the future👍🏽

Just a huge fan of Coach Smith. We wish him and his family all the best and he will be sorely missed. The greatest wrestler the United States has ever had to date. Hopefully he will be broadcasting the 2024 Olympic Freestyle men’s matches. Just an awesome listen.

Kind of smelled this coming when Espo left and Coleman Scott came in.

No surprise...absolutely no surprise. Why would Coleman Scott give up the head coaching job at NC for an assistant coach position? He had to have been given assurances. I figured that if it wasn't this year, it would be next year. As far as retirement is concerned, I think John Smith is a really good wrestling commentator. His comments on the refereeing is always fun to hear.

It seemed like the writing on the wall when they brought Scott in. Thank you John Smith for all you have done for our sport.

If Oklahoma State truly wants to get atop college wrestling, they need to toss a GIANT bag of cash at David Taylor to Cowboy Up! 🤠
@danielfunk77692 ай бұрын
So Coleman Scott don’t do it for yah? You need David Taylor? You think the M2 just happened to built in Pa because David Taylor loves fly fishing with Joe Humphreys? Feel like Cael has an exit strategy and does not seem like a guy who hangs on too long. Beat the point record, has 2 4xer’s, these are strategic goals, feel like once he has done what he needs to do. David’s time will come.

It as clearly noticeable to me that Oklahoma State wrestlers were wrestling differently this year. They seemed to have much more life and spirit when they wrestled. I attribute that to the addition of Coleman Scott. Oklahoma State wrestling seemed to be in decline the past few years and when I’d watch the team wrestling it seemed to be a low energy and low spirited team. John had a great career and is one of USA’s wrestling all time greats. The timing is right and with Coleman as the head coach, I think you’ll see a program on the rise. He is a helluva coach.
