I have been a student of Aikido from my early teens and as crazy as it may seem, moving with my cello is difficult whilst trying to play. Patience it is said is a virtue and never more true when applied to the cello.

It's true, the aspect of the center of gravity's movement while playing the cello is fascinating and showcases the complexity of this instrument. The ability to mechanize those small movements and maintain proper balance is crucial for cellists. It requires practice, control, and body awareness to maintain a stable posture while executing different techniques with both hands. This duality between stability and mobility adds an additional layer of challenge to mastering the cello and is part of what makes this instrument so rewarding to conque. Thank's

I struggle with shoulder pain, especially when I play on the A string. What exercise or practice tips would you recommend to alleviate this. Thank you so much, your videos are so informative and helpful to my practice!

Often shoulder pain comes from a rotated sitting position when playing on the A string. Start sitting “neutral”, like playing on the G string, now place your hand in 1th position on that string and move it slowly towards the A string without rotating your back. In this position your wrist will be a little higher, relax the left shoulder and the elbow while keeping this”bridge form”. Now play on the A string while concentrating on a relaxed left shoulder. Good luck!

I’m thinking of taking up the ‘cello! Later in life - I’m 52! But I spent my early years playing the tenor viol with a Renaissance music group, so I have an immediate in. There are a few differences - the viol has frets and a flat back. Different scroll, too! But you are an amazing cellist! I thought Jacqueline Dupré had Elgar in the bag, to be honest! But I find I’m preferring your version of it! Happy laying and wish me luck! At least I won’t have to read the tenor clef any more! 😅

I have little hands and when I want to go, for ex., from B on the A string to A on the D string I don't know if I must extend my left hand or go one whoke tone toward the bridge.

The best explanation of what is meant by the confusing word colour when talking about music. Thank you Adrian you have taken the mystery out of the meaning of the word colour in music. You are a very good teacher. I learned so much in a few minutes. A most beautiful cello so even across all four strings. I would love to know where it was made and the maker. I subscribed immediately.

... First of all, my apologies, once I couldn't see your name so as to I start my comment as it should be started. Really, the big problem on teaching this kind of matters isn't the technical aspect but the way how making people to understand the PRINCIPLES -technical improvement comes with the practice. So, I must to thank you for your way of teaching, when it also is useful for beginners.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Your wrist flexion over the frog seems extreme, e.g. compared to Lynn Harrell (RIP), especially for older students paranoid about developing tendon issues, like myself. I'm not convinced so much flexion is needed, but I could be :) Your careful explanation will really help me observe this issue watching cellists. Subscribed.
