I managed to create a FM and a PM Wavetable hybrid monstrosity in The Grid using the All Pass Filter among many other things. This thing can create infinite sounds. You should go play around there sometime, I'm sure someone of your intellect would get lost in it.

I started making music last year and I've played around with vital a lot. I recently tried serum mainly because its much easier to find presets (splice). Theres tones of awesome presets that I love but serum dosnt have the same sound that I like with vital. Everything I make in vital just sounds better. Maybe I'm somehow using serum wrong but I dont see how.

Thank you for taking the time with this video. I've been thinking about getting the Legacy bundle but keep holding off for Zebra 3. This video is now making me think about getting it anyway. You're right, U-He are excellent at designing synths that work well as learning tools for synthesis. I'm in the middle of having set myself the project of doing a 3 track ep only using Bazille - all sounds created from scratch for everything. I've learnt so much in the process as well as the value of selecting one synth and doing my best to learn it inside out and well. This morning I just watched Urs Heckman talking about Zebra 3 at Superbooth. He made a fleeting comment about maybe, just maybe showcasing something at Namm, so I reckon this still gives enough time to learn Zebra 2 along with Zebrelette 3 ready for when Zebra 3 is released. I enjoyed this video. Thank you!

This is the one paid synth I was tempted to buy when it was discounted. But on the other hand I don't think I need to make diverse farts for my music. I have Massive for farts and although I bought it to make farts I don't remember making too many farts with it. I think geeks get obsessed with making farts. However Phase plant may have just the right sound for someone who wants to make nice sounding music but wants to venture in fartland every once in a while. Someone like me.
@platipo4 ай бұрын
It is, as I sure mentioned, a very capable synth, and to my knowledge, the only modular VST which doesn't try to emulate some rack thing, or has some other wires and similar concoctions, apart from my beloved Zebra, yes, there is Zebra3 coming, but at the time I made the video, it was nowhere near sight, and Zebra2 was already over a decade old. The fart topic in itself, should deserve a more nerdy approach, I might make a video on the topic sometime :)
@aspirativemusicproduction21354 ай бұрын
I'll mention few free synths that may not be too diverse but are good sounding and definitely worth checking out. GR 8-it souds amazing even before you put filters and effects. One trick pony but a good one. One by Kilohearts- it looks simple but it sounds very organic and it's very straight forward. It has a litle bit of FM, morphing between some basic wave shapes and a voice filter which adds some intrest to the sound. Apricot-cheesy sounding and basic but perfect for trance plucks and some trance leads. There is more, but for someone like me who doesn't want to get bogged into deep sond design and still want good sounds these are good synths. If you dig enough in the depths of interwebs there is more obscure synths that got forgotten that sound amazing but I will stop here. Of the shown in the video Odin is for me. I can easily open one generator and make some basic wave with unison, open second one and make another wave. Blend them together and put a litle bit of LFO and bam-new sound.
@platipo4 ай бұрын
This video was focused on wavetable synths, not free synths in general, at the time I made this, the ones I mentioned were the only ones I could find which were reasonably recent and feature rich in my view. Yes, Odin is a nice little thing, it does have a few unique quirks, and it is incredibly light on the CPU for how nice it sounds, but honestly, I don't find myself reaching for that nearly as often as I do reach for Vital or SurgeXT.

Anyway, I'm full of ideas in the "background", I released an album in december ( Here labyrinthinecrew.bandcamp.com/album/contemporary-ancient-music I made a "community" post about it on YT, but it got zero engagement for some reason unknown to me), and I have more than a few ideas for new videos, also, Zebra3 is coming! I use Bitwig Studio (DAW), which you might know. Bitwig Studio contains a modular environment to build up ... almost anything from simple effects up to real modular all in everything modular patch... well, that's not my intention. But all of Bitwig Studio's oscillators inside this modular environment come with different kinds of pitch/frequency control. Most notably there are a Pitch In and a Phase In, which tell basically their intended goal. Most users don't really use FM, because using the Pitch In with linear signals realizes a quite non-linear (and btw non-symmetric - in no understanding)kind of frequency modulation with odd sound, not "pitch-true"... not really that good musically controllable. But... almost all of them overlook a very simple method, which can be used to re-calculate the modulation signals in a way, that makes the concerning oscillator behave as if it is controlled by a linear frequency input - hence enabling _ t r u e _ ( =linear) FM, which can even quite simply be patched, so that you can control a value, which you might know as "modulation factor". In my understanding linear FM has a very ugly disadvantage: If you modulate crossing the "0 Hz" barrier, the sound begins to behave more and more like exponential FM, which doesn't keep the pitch played, because the generated frequencies are not longer "symmetrical" to the carrier frequency, which otherwise is the case fore modulation factors up to 1. Although linear FM in my ears at least sound more "warm" than phase modulation (PM), this disadvantage especially begins to limit it's use in case of the need for exact pitches... this said: Linear FM used with high modulation factors might give interesting sounding sond sources for all kinds of technoid music, but... as long as it is supposed to sound "smooth" and "tamed" this modulation factor has to be limited to 1. This symmetry though remains in PM - independent of the modulation factor - up to very extreme sounds - making a much better musically controllable sound... which imho was the reason, why PM has made it's way as _ t h e _ preferred modulation method against linear FM. This linear FM might be interesting to "thicken" an otherwise too "silent" sounding deep (pure sine) bass, but... that can be achieved using PM and some filtering (presumed a pitch-following modulation depth as well as filtering).

If you're interested in making your videos better for people like me i.e. those who choose carefully which plugins to invest time to you could try to explain how well the synth suits different scenarios like playing live, using it as a sort of groovebox, quickly finding a proper lead tone, constructing a complex evolving pad.
