at the time I was using teamtreehouse, udemy, youtube, and other stuff like that that didn't cost more than 10-50$ per month each. My focus was on finding most engaging good quality content that was recent (especially important today for Front-end and anything AI). I think those resources I used are still good but it's very subjective. If you want to do AI front-end projects or hard core machine learning, then you should look for current best resources for that for example wherever they are at. Also because it's a bit more difficult to find a programming job these days than it was 10 years ago, I see more and more people on twitter go straight into indie hacking & trying to work for themselves. the tools to get up and running these days are way better than when I got started so this is more of an option for junior people now.

Wow, thank you very much for this video. I love your positive and realistic perspective and approach to this challenge. I want to start my coding journey with Python. Since I’m not into books, I need a purely practical online teaching approach. Do you have any particular platform or instructor you would recommend for a total beginner?

I've been learning python programming for 3yrs. I've got several other courses I've gotten half way threw. Recently I realized I think I know to build better projects, bigger actually. The job search hasn't gone well. No phone screens. Been networking. I look on indeed here the market is dried up for the time being. But having yrs of experience in Electronics repair im trying to find a electronics technician role with python programming. There are roles like that and I have been getting job interviews there. Either I'm going to get a part time job and build stuff,finish courses or move across the country for a job that involves programming.

Solid real-world advice! I have decided to go the Self-Taught Route and was happy to hear you mention JS + TS + Nodejs & React. I started originally in PHP & Wordpress building sites but found it awkward trying to get through interviews etc. great content & honest delivery :-)

@emergingbits
@emergingbits Жыл бұрын
I learned Javascript and Angular at the time which helped me get my first job. then quickly picked up React, Node.js, on the job. Today I would recommend if you want to do front-end, Typescript, React, next.js is a good start. Python if you want to the AI machine learning stuff.

Very nice man! I am wondering why you didnt use langchain for the ask question endpoint? I see you used openAI directly. Do you know how to do what you did in langchain? i.e. set system message + ask a question + pass in vectors?
@emergingbits
@emergingbits Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. Yes you could. The thing to keep in mind is that it depends what you're building. you can use langchain's "Buffer Memory" or "Conversation Summary Memory" and probably use those to keep track of chat history but if you want to use memory of chat history across many users, you will need to use something like DyanmoDb backed memory to track different users, etc. I kept things simple but definitely could have used langchain all the way but it has it's considerations. hope that helps!

I think ChatGPT is good as 1) a starting point and 2) smaller scripts. I don't write huge applications, but I can ask chatgpt to write a script to accomplish a small task. It'll give me the result and if I get error messages, I simply give it the error message and it tries to correct it for me while also explaining why and what it did. Plus, I really like the historical conversation with chatgpt. For example, I can tell it to use a certain framework or to also write unit tests for each function I ask it to write for me. As a beginner/intermediate coder, the conversational aspect of chatgpt definitely wins out for me.

Thank you! I´m just trying to change my career and I was confused and a little lost with all the options. When I talked with some of my colleagues about coding, all of them gave me the same insights: > go with the flow... you will need time to learn (precisely the same as a kid knows a language) > take time to rest > relax... everybody felt dumb (loads of times) > insist, insist, insist... persistence is the key > learn one language at a time > focus, focus, focus > talk with other people from bootcamps, forums, etc - they will teach you faster than 5 videos per day > find the language you want to learn and follow some of the best references > build your portfolio, slowly... again, go with the flow. > and invest some money in the best courses from Udemy, etc. Search for the best ones (the reviews will tell you...) and do it! > if you want to get a job in 6 months, forget your social life for a while. Focus, focus, focus.
