I have an MXR noise clamp. I may have gotten the wrong thing. Doesn't most of the noise come from the pedals that are in front of the amp, (distortion etc...)? The other thing is, I alredy have the inpus on the Joyo PXL used up.

Nice comparison! Seems minor, but I wish the G8 had a changing LED to reflect the gate being in use or not. Been using a Sentry for the last several years. Overall, I quite like it, but wish there was a gate option that could simultaneously handle sustained leads and staccato chugs a bit better. Curious to try the Revv G8, Lichtlaerm Key and Gate, and the Deadweald Golem. The golem looks very promising, but seems to be eternally out of stock.

Hi, thanks for the video. What if I would do it like this: Sentry input - from guitar Sentry output - to amp Sentry send - to PXL input Sentry return - from PXL output Shouldn‘t that work as well? So I don‘t have to use any loop.

Nice comparison! I have both the Sentry and the G8, and I’m trying to decide which one to keep. One interesting thing I noticed when comparing the two is that the G8 actually amplifies the signal slightly. The signal is louder with it on than off, at least in my case, which was a surprise. In my case the G8 is also slightly «clearer» and doesn’t muffle the high end as much, but that might be tweakable in the settings or using the Toneprint function.

Hey man, thank for this video but i have a question for you: i have the same loop switcher and the same Sentry, but i don't have s/r of the amp. How do i do for use correctly the Sentry? I want it to go after od and fuzz pedal, where the noise is. But I really don't know how to collocate it in the looper switcher. Do you think it will be ok to do the same thing as you even without fx/loop of the amp? Will it work? Hope you can help me, thx!

Hey man! Sorry but I haven’t really been making videos of late, but I totally get the tone kill thing. I currently don’t plan on getting the zuul+, just don’t need another noise gate right now, but that is a great video idea! The next best thing I could imagine for the sentry would be using the tone print app and adjusting some frequencies etc, that may help you a little. I believe Gary holt from Exodus/slayer and Scott Ian had their own tone prints for the sentry. Maybe give those a try and let me know if that helps!

I'm not familiar with the sentry but this seems incorrect to me: 2. Loop 1 of the JOYO to the Sentry Input and Send to hit the front of the amp 3. Loop 5 of the JOYO to the Sentry Return and Output to hit the FX Loop of the amp Shouldn't the Input go to Output, and the Send go to Return? I would have done it like this: 2. Loop 1 of the JOYO to the Sentry Input and OUTPUT to hit the front of the amp 3. Loop 5 of the JOYO to the Sentry Return and SEND to hit the FX Loop of the amp

Unfortunately I had the same mindset and it caused so much confusion when I first got the sentry but I’m pretty sure this is the correct way. The input of the sentry is typically for your guitar, the send goes to the front of the amp, the return catches the fx loop, and the output sends out the signal. I’m pretty sure that’s the the sentry is supposed to be used from what I’ve seen of diagrams showing ways to use it. You can google ways to use sentry noise gate and you’ll get some diagrams that help show it. Thanks for the comment!

@@kaihoosier4716 Im setting a pedal board with a different approach to the Sentry. Guitar Goes to the Sentry Input. Sentry Send goes to Wha Pedal Before the switcher. Wha output goes to Loop 1 input. Loop 1 output goes to the Amp Input. Amp Send goes back to the Sentinels Return. Sentinels Output Goes to the Loop 2 Input. This way all the loops from Joyo Loop 1 handling gain or and distortion as well as the amp are inside the sentinels noise gate loop. Second loop has an EQ, a Volume pedal and a Helix Stomp. I can bypass all the pedals in the first loop to go directly to the helix stomp if I want. I can also by pass the Amplifer preamp if you connect the L4 send to the input and the amp send to the L4 Return in the 1st loop, if that is the case Loop 1 output goes to Sentinels Return and Sentinels output goes to Loop 2 input. Remember that Stereo Effects that dont use distortion shouldnt create more noise, therefore you dont need to keep those in the noise gate loop.
