How do you change a c’s pronunciations into a k
@vulgarlang

Do you mean in the Advanced Word Structure? Simply replace all c's with k's in the Advanced Word Structure...

@@vulgarlang But when I put a c it always changes into a diagraph called CH. and when I used the advanced word structure a C never showed up. But when I used English a k changed into a c and something else changed into a k. How was that processed?
@vulgarlang
@vulgarlang Жыл бұрын
@@bruh7850 The Advanced Word Structure (and all of Vulgar) uses IPA pronunciation symbols. Because /c/ in IPA represents a sounds that is similar to "ch" in "chair", the program decides to spell the /c/ sound as "ch" in the spelling rules. It sounds like you're thinking about it backwards: that you're entering the spelling into the AWS and then the program is deciding the pronunciation. It's the other way around. You're inputting the pronunciation (IPA /c/ is not the same sound as "c" in "cat"). THEREFORE, if you want the language to have the "c" in "cat" that IPA symbol is /k/. So you should only be entering the k symbol into AWS

Is there a good way to learn and get used to tones if you didn’t grow up with a to am language?
@vulgarlang
@vulgarlang Жыл бұрын
Likely the best way to learn tones is to start learning a tonal language. It's important to note that tonal languages are not like music: the pitch of the tones are not precise and the same all the times. They are relative to teach speaker's own vocal range and in comparing one syllable to the next. This means the exact pitch can vary quite a bit! Likely you need to start to getting a feel for these "relative" tones just through exposure. This is similar to how you need to "get your ear in" for any new languages phonemes by exposure.

My script is an abagida what can I do
@vulgarlang
@vulgarlang 2 жыл бұрын
Have answered this twice in the comments already, so I can just copy paste the last answer :) Absolutely! An abugida is really just a kind of syllabary. Whereas syllabaries have totally different looking symbols for each consonant-vowel combination, abugidas usually have the base symbol for the consonants and some kind of diacritic mark to indicate the vowel. Regardless of whether you create an abugida or regular syllabary, the custom spelling rules will be "consonant-vowel combo in IPA > key for the conscript glyph". eg "ma > መ", "mu > ሙ", "mi > ሚ"

@vulgarlang
@vulgarlang 2 жыл бұрын
It's a weird case. Top-to-bottom scripts should be designed the same as left-to-right font files, and then just made top-to-bottom in the editing phrase. For example, this video explains how to make English text down top-to-bottom in Word: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/npOda9Gm3J-5ep8.html But this makes them unsuitable for using them in the Vulgar app, as well as many other software.

Hi there! Just wondering if there is a way to add apostrophes into the words themselves, instead of only in the pronunciation part?
@vulgarlang
@vulgarlang 2 жыл бұрын
Note that the primary stress symbol ˈ is technically not the same symbol as the apostrophe ’ In the spelling options tab there is an option "Make spelling rules sensitive to stress symbol" this will make the stress symbol ˈ show up in the spelling, and you can make rules to change it whatever you like.

what if you want to make an abugida?
@vulgarlang
@vulgarlang 2 жыл бұрын
An abugida is just like a syllabary, but with added diacritics to change the vowel. So the rules might look something like this pa > {base glyph for pa} pe > {base glyph for pa}{added diacritic that changes a to e} You either need to make a unique glyph for each symbol (easiest option) or learn how to do anchor diacritics onto base glyphs in Font Forge (harder, and you'll need google how to do that)

Is there any way to add consonant harmony to your conlang?
@vulgarlang
@vulgarlang 2 жыл бұрын
It can be done, but you need to design an Advanced Word Structures that do it, which requires you to learn how to use the Advanced Word Structure option: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mceIac11rq-oaYk.html Watch that whole video first. If it isn't obvious how to do consonant harmony from watching that, I can help.
