Great video! Miss the Swiftsure, late 70's early 80's we would get 400+ boats for the Swiftsure. Made for a wild rafting party the night before.

This was fun to watch. It's a race we've always thought about going in, never made the effort. Is wind usually light?

This was my first one so i hear it's usually windier and much wetter... the hole at the finish line, though is a classic. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed!

@@SailingPardonMyFrench It sounds a lot like the Round Saltspring race, except you get a comfortable break on Saturday night at Roche rather than going all night long. The Friday night before the beginning of the race, do people anchor near the Orcas Island Yacht Club, or is there room to raft up on the adjacent dock?
@SailingPardonMyFrench
@SailingPardonMyFrench Жыл бұрын
@@spelunkerd The overnight is at Roche Harbor, space to dock/raft for all.

In love with the SV! What model and year is it? I've recently started sailing, I have a 26ft toy sailboat essentially (swing keel) but it's easy to get in and out of the docks and easy to learn on😁 I see vessels like yours and always get warm and fuzzy haha

I just started learning to sail, but when I saw 15-25kt wind and it switched video to full jib and main I was super stoked, rarely ever do you see someone as strong as their vessel, most people would have turned upwind when the vessel keeled half that. I'd like to sail with YOU sometime sir bravo!

I really enjoyed the video! We have a young daughter and will be moving to Seattle in a few months and would love to have adventures like these. I know you've long since moved on from the Cat 36. Any particular reason why? The sailboat inventory on the PNW is pretty old...I wonder if this one is still in the area. Cheers!

OMG I love this. Awesome video. Assuming you are using a drone? Excellent footage. Hey, who cares about fast? Well ok, some people do. But dang if you are caught in a gale, you WANT one of those heavy slow boats... hell I wouldn't cross the straits without one, I don't care how good the weather is!

Génial! Terrific filming of a great adventure. I sure hope that some day I get to sail Juan de Fuca. Looks fantastic. That was a great gybe of the spi near the end. I'm never brave enough to do that. I just drop the chaussette, and hoist again on the other side. Your film has persuaded me to try the gybe again. Again, bravo to all aboard.

Thanks Patrick. Great that the video conceived all the fun we had. The strait is fun but small compared to some of your passages. Loved the Scotland adventure. Btw. Look us up if you come to the Pacific Northwest and let’s go for a sail. And gybing is relatively easy with a bit of practice and a good crew. Solo tho, it’s another story...
